So I've been soaking up all the latest mock drafts and draft podcasts. Nothing is for sure, but I think there is a decently clear picture of that top half of round 1 with room for maybe 1 surprise. Breaking it down for Dallas:

Likely Gone before 17: 3 QBs, 4 OTs, 3 WRs, 4 Defenders (Young, Brown, Okudah & Simmons).

That's 14 players total... only 2 more names to add to that list before Dallas picks

Players available: Henderson, Kinlaw, Chaisson

So theoretically, there should be 1 or maybe 2 of those guys above still on the board when we pick. If all 3 of those defenders are gone that means either 1 of the WRs or 1 of the OTs has fallen instead. I could live with drafting one of the WRs... worst case would be an OT being BPA... ugh I would be sick and praying for a trade partner.

Most likely though... we'll have Henderson or Kinlaw or Chaisson available. Y'all happy as long as we get anybody from that group? I think I would be.

Much much happier to get henderson or kinlaw

Big drop off with chiasson

Yeah that's kind of how I feel as well. We already have some gambles in place at DE on this team... not really sure I'm looking for another. Not to mention we currently have a lot of money tied up at DE which means we need cheap talent at other positions.

There's also the other side of me that thinks Dallas is in love with somebody else we aren't really talking about. Not uncommon since us fans usually get tunnel vision from these mocks. I'm keeping an open mind about McKinney and another CB not named Henderson... there are plenty of people that like 1 or 2 other CBs just as much as Okudah and CJ.

Don't be shocked if they take a tackle that drops...

Evidently, Jerry screwed up during the draft and the whole league could hear him talking to the Bengals during a scripted trade for the #1 pick.

Interesting odds according to Fanduel to get an idea of who is going where:

Cowboys first pick: defense (-300)
CJ Henderson U 12.5 (-130)
Derrick Brown U 7.5 (-145)
Isaiah Simmons O 6.5 (-180)
Justin Jefferson U 21.5 (-200)
Javon Kinlaw O 13.5 (-135)
K'Lavon Chaisson O 16.5 (-155)
Grant Delpit first round? No (-175)

Position of first play (cowboys)
CB +170
DL +250
LB +340
OL +600
WR +1100

So that means they draft a quarterback right?

Would be interested to see what kind of trade down offers are available if one of the top 3 QB's drop.

Mike Florio is putting it out that the Giants are interested in the QB from Oregon. Florio's pretty much a tool of the NFL's version of the deep state. So I'm sure the Giants are using him to send out smoke screens.

Sounds like the most lame smoke screen ever. Even if somebody actually believed them... and nobody does... wouldn't that just encourage another team to trade with Detroit so they can get the QB ahead of NY.

If NY is trying to draw trade interest so they can go down they are doing a terrible job of it!

With regards to Dallas, a QB falling may be the only trade down opportunity. With the "virtual" draft I have a feeling getting trades done will be difficult. Bunch of old owners trying to use computers and tablets from their homes!

I'm pretty sure we'll be making a pick at 17.

Anyone that believe Giants are interested in drafting a Oregon quarterback is someone you should look into selling a bridge to

Rumor has it that Jeudy has a knee issue that might make him slide. Since it's coming out now I think it's a smokescreen but it's something to keep an eye on. If he's there at 17 you take him but I bet someone like philly wouldn't let that happen & they'll trade up for him.

seems awfully coincidental that the mysterious jeudy knee report comes from a philly reporter the day before the eagles will almost certainly target a WR in the first round.

Serious question... would you trade Dak straight up for the #1 pick / Joe Burrow.

I wouldn't. Ryan Leaf was a can't miss prospect too. I'll take the guy that has already consistently won in the NFL.

No way. Too many QBs come into the league and fail. Dak has shown he can play. I'm not a huge fan of Dak, but the chance of drafting a QB and them coming in and winning is tough to judge. It's rare. Draft a player with the picks you have and develop him (like Romo) and keep the winning QB. Or trade up to draft a QB and keep Dak. Let training camp and preseason show you.

Absolutely Burrow would thrive with Boys and cost way less

Dak was a great QB at 500k at 35million meh

I like Dak but give me Burrow all day everyday, especially when you take into account the difference in salary cap hit between the 2. With Burrow, we'd be able to go get Adams and Clowney.

Exactly, but why would they put that out?

Maybe they want Tua and don't want the Dolphins to think they need to trade up to get him.

Ideally, I'd love for the Redskins to shock everyone and draft Tua. If they draft Young, that d-line is going to be NASTY.

ESPN replaying the 2014 draft.... panthers just drafted Kelvin Benjamin with the 28th pick. Dude isn't even in the league anymore.

I mean, not even in the league is hella bad. It happens... hopefully not to us this year.

Neither is the Eagles first round pick (Marcus Smith), the Patriots first round pick (Dominique Easley), The Jets first round pick (Calvin Pryor), or how bout the Browns with not 1 but 2 out of the league in the first round in Manziel and Gilbert. Lots of busts in that draft.

Isn't the salary cap hit merely the difference between a rookie contract, which is pre-determined and standard, and a not-rookie contract?

From what I've read, Burrow will likely be signed for a 4 year deal with a 5th year option for what Dak is demanding just per year ($35M+)

Seeing a rumor that the Raiders are trying to trade for Yanick Ngakoue and the 19th pick is involved. My guess is it would be Yanick & a 2nd for the 19th pick or something close to that. This would give JAX 3 1st round picks and a chance to shake up the draft. Maybe they trade up for Tua or Herbert?

Hmm....

It's gonna be a wild day tomorrow boys.

Today's the big day mofos.

So glad they kept this date. Need some live sports action! Even if it is just a draft.

Yeah, isn't that a standard rookie contract? There's some kind of max on a rookie contract, right?

Yes. Rookies are on a locked sliding scale
Trucker 96

Yes, it's preset. The first 4 years are relatively cheap, while the 5th year option is always a big #.

I have no reason to think they put it out there. Why would teams believe it? They know Jones is untradeable from cap standpoint, in addition to nothing suggests Giants aren't happy with him.
Rossko

1. Yes I would take Burrow over Dak if given the opportunity. I'm pro-Dak but Burrow is cheaper the next few years and I think he is going to be a star.

2. There is a legit chance Tua drops due to medical and is on the board at 17. That could make things really interesting in either taking him or being able to get a haul to trade down.

3. Justin Jefferson would me my ideal target if we go after a WR and don't have a shot at Lamb or Jeudy.

After trading OBJ and his $95 million deal, you think they would think twice about a 2nd year QB's $25 or whatever is left?

They have a new HC, New OC, news reports all over about the unusual amount of research they are doing on Herbert for a team set at QB.

This is definitely coming from the Giants.

And who says they trade Jones? He's making less than backup QBs right now.

They've got JG as OC who has a direct line to Saban. Who would have a better idea of Tua's medical situation? Did Bama's surgeon do the operation?
