Just saw that Armstead and SF are working on a deal. Nothing set in stone, but it sounds like they want him back and he wants to be there. Would love to have him though.

John Lynch is one of the best GM's out there so he will probably find a way to keep him. They have ~ 13M in cap space right now but they can easily make room with a few cuts. A franchise tag seems like the way to go for them since Deforest Buckner & Kittle contracts are up after this year. I am hoping they choose to fill his spot through the draft, though.

Seeing some mocks with CeeDee LambTo the Cowboys. I personally love the player but would think this would mean we don't resign Cooper? Or possibly sign cooper but not Cobb? I'd be on board with letting Cobb go, franchising Cooper and drafting Lamb. What's everyone's thoughts on Lamb?

Lamb is going to be very good, but I would hate to pass on first round defense.

We have so many holes to fill on that side.

Cooper isn't going anywhere, even if a tag is the way to go. There are a couple questions about him after last year, but two things we know: The team was instantly better when he walked on the field and the Cowboys are not going to so easily give up on a #1 pick investment who has, at times, dominated for us.

Regarding draft, Stephen has flat out said they are very focused on defense for the early rounds of this draft. And why shouldn't they be... we have zero holes on offense and the "needs" that we do have can easily be plugged by our usual free agent tactics. Any improvements to our offense next years is going to come down to players work ethic this offseason and the game-planning of our new coaches.

Defense, on the other hand, is swiss cheese right now. Got some pretty big concerns over there. In an ideal world we can keep Quinn and get a day 1 starter at CB in round 1. Hopefully with a pass rush we can help whatever weak spots we might still have in our secondary come opening weekend.

This is supposed to be the best WR draft in a decade. Seems like itd be smart to wait to the 3rd round to take one if you weren't really desperate.

Ceedee is a stud but like Ag Natural said, waiting until later in the draft seems like the most efficient way to go.

Laviska Shenault is a guy that might slip to us at 51 due to the injury he suffered at the combine and the depth of this draft. Now he would be someone we can't pass up in the 2nd round, IMO.

Are the Cowboys ever going to draft a monster defensive tackle with a first round pick?

Jay Ratliff was the last above average defensive tackle the Cowboys have had...and that was over 10 years ago

I keep wondering when they will have a good safety on the team.

Whether some of you guys like or not, probably half the fan base is sick of Jeff heath starting. It would be a good way for McCarthy to send a message that things are different by drafting Delpit in the first round.

Garrett and marinelli never cared about the safety position and they also wondered why we never generated turnovers.

Yep. Marinelli was behind several bad draft decisions. He apparently loves small DTs and big DEs. He REALLY loves guys who can play multiple positions. Nevermind if they were actually good at any of them. I'm excited to see what the strategy is now. McCarthy has stated several times that he doesnt care about need or fit. Get him good players and he'll design a scheme around them.

The other day the cowboys west coast scout named Ross Wuensche came to A&M and spoke to us. He dropped some nuggets but the one that stood out to me the most was that they are looking for bigger DL now. He said during the previous regime that they looked for pass rushing 3T's only but it seems that now they want run stuffing DL. This makes sense since Jim Tomsula and Mike Nolan are leading the defense now.

Whether you like it or not, I'll wager that McCarthy doesn't give a flaming rat's backside what half the fan base thinks about anything.

I hope Jerry can trade some 4-3 players for pieces that actually fit the defense.

Yeah, there's something about Cooper I don't trust. Maybe his competitiveness? I just don't think he's worth the money he's commanding. I also wonder about his health and what exactly happened with him at Oakland. And, receivers are very deep in this draft.

I'd rather have CeeDee than Cooper but I'd much rather have more talent on defense. Remember LVE may not totally recover from neck surgery either.

Just draft a big DT or a playmaking Safety. Please.

If he's injured he's an absolute lock to be taken by Dallas in the 2nd.

Im glad Marinelli is gone. The Cowboys defense is consistently at the bottom of the league in forcing turnovers.

Its time for a much different defensive philosophy.

Well it worked out with Lee & Smith. Bruce Carter was an ok pick and showed some flashes. If we can get a player with a first round grade that slipped to the 2nd I am all for it. Shenault's injury is not long-term and he should be ready by training camp.

A late round guy to keep an eye on that Ross mentioned is Safety Kenny Robinson Jr. He is currently playing in the XFL for the Battlehawks after leaving West Virginia for academic reasons. He is entering the draft after the XFL and should get drafted. He was first team All-Big 12 in 2018 and had 77 tackles and 4 INT that year. Could be a guy we have interest in if we decide to not draft a S in the first 3 rounds.

Interesting scenario that could net two first round picks for Dak. I think I would be ok with letting him walk if I was compensated with 2 first round picks including a number 5 if Miami was a player in bidding on Dak.

They have them taking Tua, Delpit, and Lamb in the first round. That'd be quite the haul of big name talent.

If that could happen, I would do it in a heartbeat. And I'm a big Dak believer.

that assumes tua lasts til 5. what is the plan when he doesn't

they dont make the trade unless Tua is there at 5 in this completely made up scenario that has as much chance of happening as Romo playing for Renegades this weekend

but the cowboys have to decide between exclusive vs. non-exclusive franchise tag by 3/12. this deal only works if they choose non-exclusive. you can't wait until draft night to make this idea work.

I don't think the Dolphins would be interested but what about the Colts at 13 or the Titans at 29? Their first rounder this year plus next years 1st. I don't think that is enough compensation for Dak but it is what the non-exclusive tag would warrant. Both those teams have plenty of cap space and are a qb away from being super bowl contenders.
ac04
How long do you want to ignore this user?
there's no way dallas puts the non-exclusive tag on dak.

That's what I think so too but maybe Stephen & Jerry will gamble on this hoping that other teams do the negotiation for them. What if the only offers he gets are around 36M? All we would have to do is match the offer instead of taking the first round picks.

With that said I think we will sign Dak and franchise cooper or vice versa.

You're the guy that posted an article that thinks we could get 2 first round picks for Dak, that's incredibly stupid.

Also, if you think you can get 2 first round picks, why are you trading him.
