A 5-figure battery change could buy a lot of oil & filters.

Luckily that's a non issue till around 300k miles

Different point, but the Model Y is a very small SUV. I would think those $75-100K SUVS were significantly larger than a Y or Model 3. So great purchase for your stated use, but it doesn't directly compare to those expensive SUVs. And, of course, the FSD is the thing. If that $75K SUV was $85K with Tesla FSD, the decision matrix would have been different.

I had an X5 and now MY. Both car storage are very comparable. The X5 just looks bigger but deceiving. Per Chatgpt. Keep in mind a comparable X5 is 75K+ while the MY is 45K.

Vehicle
Cargo Behind 2nd Row
Max Cargo (Seats Folded)BMW X5
~33.9 cu ft
~72.3 cu ft

Tesla Model Y
~30.2 cu ft (plus frunk)
~76 cu ft including underfloor storage and frunk

X5 wins by 3.7 cu ft behind 2nd row
MY wins by 3.7 cu ft for overall max cargo.

It is amazing how much I can haul inside the MY.

So to sum up, TexasRebel won't buy a Tesla.

The others, me, Teslag, MedAggie and others love their Teslas. I have a Porshe Boxster and a Nissan Titan Diesel I never drive because I prefer the Tesla. Wife has a Subaru and we always take the Tesla wherever we go together.

Best car I've ever owned.

This list has grown substantially larger the last 4 years, to the point where the anti-Tesla folk are the outliers on these threads. I wouldn't have even believed that would have happened in 4 years.

lol the maintenance and fuel savings, likely over $1000/yr, may cover new tires after 4 years (my MY has 38K miles and tires look brand new).

About 10 to 15% less by then. So if it starts at say 320 miles it will be 280 or so by 300k

I know now you are just trolling.

We have a MX at 20K miles and tires still have thick treads.
Have a MY at 92K miles and had a 2nd set put on at 90K miles. Prob had 10K more miles but with all the rain, didn't want to risk it. Getting 45K miles/set is better than my X5 in the past.

Cost was $225/tire which was in line with X5 so the tire issue is way overblown.

90k on tires?
Be safer, please.

What's the issue? Depending on the tire that's not unreasonable. Michelin Defender XT have a tire warranty of 90k miles.

Helps if those words are correct.

It seems they put the third set on at 90k.

So now it's back to:
only 45k from a set of tires?

No they weren't.

Wow, some just need to be talked to like a 5 yr old. 2nd NEW set. I guess you just glossed over the 45k/set. have no idea where you read 90k miles on a set

Sometimes I wonder how some with poor reading comprehension could have graduated college. I just go back to being a Troll.

Ok, how do we next criticize Teslas? I know! I have to replace the washer fluid more often because I clean frequently for the front camera. I also have little glasses cleaner wipe packets so I can clean the other cameras if need be.

One thing I hate about Tesla is I don't get to pump gas once a week and grab a bag of chips. Hate that I am getting healthier.

Apparently a windshield costs something like $1k-2.5K to replace.

Snark aside, I just wish they'd offer FSD at no charge to all H1B/south asian lessors/buyers so I could feel a bit safer out in New Bombay here. That would probably be racist/illegal though, admittedly. It could be fascinating if at some point they just 'give FSD away' for a certain hardware/generation of vehicles. If Cybercabs are their future business model for mobility it would make sense.

Also, a steep discount/free if they have to drive around in Georgia/Texas summers with the windows down (no AC) and paint peeling. I watch out for those like a hawk!

Those brothers/sisters cannot drive worth a damn!

You priced windshields lately? I just had to replace one on a GMC Sierra with adaptive cruise and it was $1k.

Poor pitiful me; such a horrible decision, I don't know what I'm going to do now with all the extra tens of thousands of dollars I've saved vs spending that on another suv or truck plus all the gas I'll have to buy, future oil changes and all the additional maintenance…. But… but… tires!! Oh no, how could I not think about the tires I'll have to buy!!! What will I do now??!!

Also: Getting ceramic tint on it tomorrow.

In the "I'll never buy an EV" thread they stooped to "tire dust pollution" at one point

One of the most prolific posters on the anti EV thread is posting here now and is a Tesla fan boy now

Nice! +1 for dog in photo.

I have a M3 Performance. Kinda wish I didn't get performance. When I don't FSD, I'm a speeding ticket waiting to happen. So much fun to blow people driving "muscle cars" away.

Honestly the snark you EVangelists spout when someone brings up legitimate points of concern is probably the biggest hindrance to me ever considering a Tesla. Simple "What about this problem I heard about" statements lead to rounds of ad hominems and accusations.

It makes me think the problems you guys are so quick to insult others about are probably legitimate. Tires probably do wear out faster. Wrecks do result in more problems than with traditional cars. Charging times are a pain. Etc. etc.
The left cannot kill the Spirit of Charlie Kirk.

You make major purchasing decisions based on how anonymous posters treat you on a college football message board?

The problem is you run here immediately with every single negative thing you read without any vetting whatsoever. Then when corrected you continue to repeat. Scores of former "never EV" posters keep buying these cars and changing their minds. Why do you think that is?
