A 5-figure battery change could buy a lot of oil & filters.
Luckily that's a non issue till around 300k miles

Different point, but the Model Y is a very small SUV. I would think those $75-100K SUVS were significantly larger than a Y or Model 3. So great purchase for your stated use, but it doesn't directly compare to those expensive SUVs. And, of course, the FSD is the thing. If that $75K SUV was $85K with Tesla FSD, the decision matrix would have been different.

So your range just gets smaller and smaller until then?

I know now you are just trolling.
We have a MX at 20K miles and tires still have thick treads.
Have a MY at 92K miles and had a 2nd set put on at 90K miles. Prob had 10K more miles but with all the rain, didn't want to risk it. Getting 45K miles/set is better than my X5 in the past.
Cost was $225/tire which was in line with X5 so the tire issue is way overblown.

90k on tires?
Be safer, please.

Helps if those words are correct.
It seems they put the third set on at 90k.
So now it's back to:
only 45k from a set of tires?

Ok, how do we next criticize Teslas? I know! I have to replace the washer fluid more often because I clean frequently for the front camera. I also have little glasses cleaner wipe packets so I can clean the other cameras if need be.

Apparently a windshield costs something like $1k-2.5K to replace.
Snark aside, I just wish they'd offer FSD at no charge to all H1B/south asian lessors/buyers so I could feel a bit safer out in New Bombay here. That would probably be racist/illegal though, admittedly. It could be fascinating if at some point they just 'give FSD away' for a certain hardware/generation of vehicles. If Cybercabs are their future business model for mobility it would make sense.

Nice! Should have got the performance though
A Model Y driver started experiencing a medical emergency with chest pain mid-drive & called his son.
— Tesla North America (@tesla_na) June 16, 2026
His son then remotely rerouted the car – which had FSD Supervised enabled – to the nearest hospital & let them know the vehicle was en route. ER staff were standing by on… pic.twitter.com/yi1tHISK9y
