Some other crap in this "CR":

* Allows Congress to opt out of Obamacare and join federal workers' health plans (this was a MAJOR point of contention during Obamacare debate)

* Funds highly controversial censorship efforts at the State Department

Where were you during the last government shutdown?

No one remembers.

I think 80% functions on autopilot, so there's hardly any impact.

If DOGE is serious about cutting bureaucracy, it seems like shutting down 20% of the government would be a good way to demonstrate reducing government is no big deal.
And everyone gets paid eventually. Even those who get a (temporarily) unpaid vacation. They get full pay for the time they don't work and it doesn't count against their vacation.

I think it's more that I care about arguing from a position of accuracy instead of emotional response. I don't like excessive government. I don't like CR's and would prefer them to just pass a real budget. But even though I like those ideals it doesn't mean I have to invent falsehoods or narratives in order for me to cope with why it's not happening. Trump spends. He likes to spends. He likes to make deals. He's not a small government tea party conservative like I'd prefer him to be. No one is perfect, but I'm still happy he's president. Those are realities. Johnson also isn't a RINO or establishment or any of that nonsense just because he's passing a CR. He's just a trump loyalist threading the needle before January 20th. He will remain loyal to Trump and do what he wants because it's his ticket to remaining speaker. He knows by doing so the rest of the house will fall in line because they fear Trump's wrath as well. And should. Trump has a mandate.
Sounds to me that you are indulging speculation; that Trump is in favor of this bill and has provided tacit approval to the speaker to run this terrible CR through congress. Speculation an accuracy travel in different lanes.

Yep, as a federal employee (USACE) I'd love a good long shutdown over Christmas so I don't have to use any PTO and still get paid.

Like I said, Johnson doesn't take a piss without Trump's approval. Can parts of the CR change? Yep. Will one get passed to avoid a shut down. Yep.

With the number of posts on Texags during working hours, it seems like certain govt employees get paid to not work anyway, so shut it down! - so excited and ready for DOGE.

Can't remember the issue off of the top of my head but shortly after his elevation to Speaker, Johnson was adamant on one position, received a visit from some people in the IC and did a 180 the next day.

So yeah, he's compromised.

I don't understand why Johnson doesn't man up with a bait & switch, and indroduce a 20 page, clean CR that freezes all spending at current rates for the next 90 days. Do it this afternoon.

Then let the Dems all vote against it and FOR the shutdown.

Then we'd see all hell break loose, 100% due to the Dems.

The first is an absolute atrocity.

The second italics -- just assume they are doing poorly and will be accurate enough.

And giving themselves raises. I thought a few years back, that giving themselves raises needed to be standalone bills? Did I just imagine that?

Voters need to put a halt to this. They have done nothing to rate pay raises, only pay cuts.

Trump needs to be confronted by Bongino or such -- is it true you are directing Johnson to cave this way?

Shutting down the govt if that is the threat carries little weight now. It won't impact much and in fact, will have the effect of the necessary "lame duck freeze" so needed to be created.

Yes, he's 100% okay with it. Trump is a spender and that won't change.

Musk and Vivek haven't gotten the word obviously.

The stuff Elon and Vivek are in charge of cutting is decimal points. Trump already made it clear he isn't touching SS or Medicare. And likely to continue to increase Defense.

So yea while Doge is a fun idea and I hope they do good work, it is mostly for show as far as financial stewardship goes.

Trump endorsed Johnson again just a month ago.

It has NEVER been about "draining the swamp". It has always been about switching out the creatures at the top of the food chain.

You use of "NEVER" really convince me you know what is going on in Washington, DC. I was thinking Trump and his mandate would not start on Jan. 20th.

For all you clown lumping RINO's and conservatives together….nice try. Anything that passes other than a proper funding bill really pisses us of. If the Trump admin doesn't follow through on his promises he will feel the wrath. Love the result, not the man.

Can we at least acknowledge he isn't president until Jan. What ever passes are on the poor bassturds who are in office.

This is absolutely the right move. Make the Dems own the shutdown.

You cannot say you are fixing government spending and ignore 75% of the annual spending.

Tells me the new admin doesn't care much about spending. Just like it didn't last time.

If you were running a $10,000 monthly deficit and looked for items to cut but didn't touch mortgage, car payments or eating out, I would say you just don't care about cutting spending. Dropping your Netflix subscription is for show.

What you want and what you voted for are not the same thing. Things will be different in a lot of ways in January, but Conservative policy is not a major part of that, and just about everyone here acknowledged as much during the election. Expecting something way further to the right of who was elected is not reasonable to expect.
