This bill isn't going anywhere, might as well wait until January and see if the makeup of the new Congress changes anything.

It's 4 weeks or so. Shut it down until then and pass it the day Trump takes office.

When Trump takes office the republicans will have less votes in the house and still need Dems in the senate to vote for it

CR is a reconciliation bill. Only need 50 in the senate

I kinda think so. Trump needs the debt ceiling out of the way to pass his agenda. The mandatory spend grows every year and the interest expense is accelerating. Trump needs $100B for deportation. He wants a tax cut which will reduce revenue at least in the first year. He'll want to do tariffs but any revenue from that will be offset by giveaways that will offset the initial jolt.

If this 116 page bill was initially presented, Rs would go ape because Rs wouldn't want to increase the debt limit so easily. All of a sudden now Rs that proudly claimed they've never voted for a debt ceiling increase are for it. Trump knows the Rs are a bunch of *****es and he controls them so this way his way to get majority of Rs to accept a Debt limit increase.

At the same time there is nothing in the new bill that's Dems would opppse. If he can pull this off he's a genius politician

I think in the grand scheme of things, the most prudent path for the Rs would have been to pass this bill…begrudgingly, but passing it would have put this on Schumer and the Senate…

Now Schumer has the upper hand here…

For almost 20 years, everybody knew the Dem agenda ran through Nancy Pelosi. For the Rs it's been a game of musical chairs.

That's the first vote. Took 2/3rds to pass. Now they do another with simple majority.

Eta, it some rules stuff to see where the votes are. They then try to whip what they need for the simple majority.

People are dumb. Just like they think Johnson isn't trumps guy.

Ironic.

Yet I'll continue to be right. And you'll just stomp around wondering why.

My thought is that Trump just wanted this bill pushed through so that the pork gets passed along on Biden's watch and he can start with a relatively clean slate. Then Elon jumps on Twitter crapping all over it and Trump somehow gets bullied into backing Elon's stance although he just wants it to go away before he takes office.

Like both Trump and Elon but I don't see how two of the biggest alpha males in the world will work together for long, especially when they have fundamentally different views on spending and debt.
Trump needs Elon's support and he knows it. Musk is probably more responsible for Trump winning than anyone else on the Trump team and he would do well to listen to Elon on these fiscal matters.

Without X and Musk's support, maintaining and building public support for his agenda going forward gets exponentially harder, if not impossible.

Yep.

Now, the BIG media story will be that the REPUBLICANS shut down the government.

And it will be easy to prove, since it was the REPUBLICANS that wouldn't pass a bill.

If they had passed this, then SCHUMER/DEMOCRATS would have had to kill it in the Senate.

Sure, the media will always show the Dems' version of the story, but at least the GOP could point to the votes and tweet them out.

Dems could have voted for it too. If Republicans are smart they would frame it has Dems didn't want to fund the government because they didnt get all the extra spending they wanted. If Republicans lose the messaging on this they are just stupid.

And Dems will point out that 38 Republicans didn't want it either; doesn't matter if your own party won't support a bill.

Catturd? As of May it was over $175 billion and while I don't keep track directly I'm pretty sure it's well north of that by now, even at depreciated cost estimates (which of course means we will spend much more than that to replace what is written off and sent over).

I think it's the fact he makes it sound like it's a pallet of $200 million in cash. Much of it was book value of weapons. Some of which won't be replaced.

There's relative dozens of views compared to social media and the right has a strong game there.

Nancy mace just did an interview and said she voted it down because the same amount of money is still being appropriated to the same places as yesterday's bill was.

No clue how true that is but she was adamant the spending hasn't changed and where it's going didn't.
