Simply, I why didn't Johnson push a clean bill? If the dems reject it, they are the bad guys. Gov shuts down until they comply. Now the narrative has change that GOP doesn't have their **** together.

What a disaster. Johnson should not be leading congress next month.
Its important to remember that as President Obama would say about Biden, the GOP-E rivals Biden in their ability to "F-up" a wet dream.

Don't be surprised if someone in the MSM stages some handicapped group's visit to a national park getting turned away at the gate because the staff was sent home.

Remember when Obama closed unmanned, open air parks during the shutdown? He actually sent workers there to prevent access.

Would have been okay with mob removing them in turn. Technically no one should be required to walk on land and drive roads.

A clean CR won't pass because of the freedom caucus
Without disaster money and more money for farmers Johnson loses another 20+ Rs

At bare minimum he needs some Democrats to pass anything

This has nothing to do with JB if it gets to his desk he will sign it

It's the trap the republicans always fall into.

A, Because they cannot/refuse to lead (like Newt did)
B. Because they love the spending and hope America won't notice. They get blamed by the democrats and media whether they spend or don't spend. STOP SPENDING!

This is what I've been wondering. Why not push a clean bill in the first place? All he's done is make a mess of the whole thing when it was easily avoidable.
Same reason for the bull**** "bipartisan border bill." He didn't want a clean bill or to solve the problem. Either admit you're a democrat or make the democrats own it.

The argument was never simply "you can't shut the government down because you will lose the election". It was "you can't shut the government down because you will lose the election, and also because of these 347 other devastating direct and indirect consequences to the American people". And now you can add to that "because it sets the Trump administration up for failure right off the bat".

You obviously haven't been paying attention. That's exactly what the argument was. Shutting down the government is not setting Trump up for failure at all. Passing crap bills like this omnibus is setting the admin up for failure!

Historically a president has the first 6-9 months of a term to set the narrative regarding his administration barring a historically unique event later on. Plaguing the first several months with the financial, social and political fallout of a government shutdown is asking him to start the drive at 1st and 20.

Newt disagrees, as do I:

President Trump, but Biden is president.

Yes, if Johnson could push a clean bill through The House, and it cleared The Senate, Biden would still need to sign it. Three opportunities to give the Democrats the blame for shutting down the giv't.

This is why I say we ratchet ever-leftward. It never moves back to the right. It's how JFK was a democrat in the 60s and Susan Collins is a republican today.

Its why don't expect much until have a genuine National party willing to be the foe of the Regressives, not a Washington Generals to the Left invested in a country-club existence of faux camaraderie.

Even genuine left populists are more authentic -- they have a differing point of view. Yokel is a good example.

It may be enough to simply stop ratcheting leftward -- halt and draw a bit back toward a real center. America was never about looking to Europe's top-down government preferences for a model.

Johnson is doing his own thing thinking Trump didn't care about this administrative stuff and Trump had his back

Elon and Vivek are doing their own thing and even though in a group chat with Johnson didn't talk about this until the last possible moment. Johnson was too busy trying to take selfies

Trump is busy being Trump and doesn't want to deal with this crap. Plus at the last second says to remove the debt ceiling.

Elon Musk is everybody is trying to be at the cool kids table with the guy with lots of money.

In summary there are 3 powerful entities and they don't communicate.

Agree with the idea that Trump needs to kind of act like the party leader (actually fulfill Teslag's claim) and get things on the same page. The GOP needs to understand that no continuation of the past weakness was voted for -- the expectation is higher.

They talked at the last possible moment because that's when the bill was complete and available to be talked about. It's not Elon or Vivek's fault. The House members got the bill 22 hours before they were expected to vote on it. Johnson worked in secret with the Dems to craft it.

The country just defined "the page" via the mandate in the election. The problem is the RINOS can't or won't get on board.

I agree with that. If somebody is at fault, it's Mike Johnson. He in charge of the house. He miscalculated everything. He thought Trump had his back. He didnt communicate. Now everybody looks like a bunch of bozos.

December 20 was a known deadline to everybody. Johnson didn't talk to anybody about it and now all this is happening last minute.

Absolutely. There is nothing that would put Mitch McConnell (for example) or Mitt Romney on Trump's page. They hate non-blueblood members like Cruz and Rand Paul. They do not want to cut spending or pass conservative legislation. Like the Phelan-Burrows wing of the Texas House. They're utter frauds.

I don't believe for a second he thought Trump had his back. He thought he would force congressmen to vote on something they could not possibly read and get stuck with a **** sandwich he helped make. Just like the "bipartisan border bill" that only a couple of republicans had input on.

These *******s need to be sent back to the private sector.

Dumb question. Are these deadlines arbitrary or from the Constitution? If not the latter, get rid of them. Why are last budget matters for the next admin even allowed to be set by the outgoing lame duck one? Probably should be some rule where nothing passed then doesn't also expire/sunset in three months and gets to be re-legislated.

Btw, Bongino is really ripping on Johnson and the GOP wobblers behind this CR. Everything he is saying is spot-on. This just isn't at all what Nov 5 and that vote was about. Their disconnect or arrogance is stunning. Even more so considering how in relative dis-array the Dems are, that they have such a small bench, and yet the GOP is acting like its Obama's era.

I really want a Speaker that will come out and clearly say that the Pelosi method of leadership crafting massive bills behind closed doors and dropping 1500+ page monstrocities on Congress hours before a vote is an assault on the way Congress is supposed to work. And, the HOR is going back to bills being proposed, debated, amended, and passed on the floor.

The "take it or leave it" game is old politics, and is destined for failure, now that AI can break down the mass of paper and identify the pork in a matter of minutes. Share that with the public, and Congress will continue to face the scrutiny that we saw over the last 20 hours.

I do not have faith that Johnson is the one to deliver that message.

That's trivial actually compared to some really destructive Left agenda advancing items in it related to censorship, Fauci type GOF stuff, woke items, protecting corrupt politicos from legal consequences, etc. Basically more Bidenian wishes, not what was voted for Nov 5.

Money wasted on buildings is minor by comparison and if that is all that was in it could be borne.

Because Trump runs the party and he's got a mandate going forward. Anyone angry with this CR and why it's being done needs to realize that it isn't the swamp and it's not changing on January 20th. Johnson isn't some swamp rat, he's a guy that Trump likes, supports, and will have his back for the next four years. It's relevant in this discussion because that's the reality of the situation.

No one in the GOP is going to buck Trump on this.
