It's going to be a fun year as people discover what the election was really about. It wasn't angry tech bros, or nationalists, or hardcore MAGA folks.

This is who put Trump over the top:

In Wilmington, North Carolina, Amber Torres, 49, said she was faring better when Trump was president. Things were cheaper then, and early covid-related stimulus checks helped cover food and rent. These days, she pays $850 a month to sublet an apartment without running water.

"I like Trump because he keeps it real, and he's closer to being like me than any other politician," she said. "Plus, I've never seen a president give out money like that. That's what we need right now, those checks."

Good luck with the whole slashing spending thing.

Also unwise to believe a politician is going to cut spending…

You continue to miss the point…

He can't cut spending AND implement his agenda…

He needs the financial room to implement his agenda and then Congress needs to cut spending in March…

Will they? Look, it's fair to believe they won't…. I have zero issue with that stance…precedent supports that stance…

But then it stands to reason that they will never cut spending no matter what, and if that's the case, and you don't give Trump the fiscal room necessary to implement his agenda, then his campaign promises, and presidency in general, are already DOA…
I'm not completely up to the end of the thread yet, but I've been reading your responses, and you are missing a very valid tactic that is at Trump's disposal, here, and creates a massive win/win.

You have Trump that ran, and was elected on the immigration issue securing the border and beginning deportations, as well as cleaning up the massive bureaucracy in DC. Yet he's erring here by promoting a business as usual remedy of extending the suspension of the debt ceiling throughout his presidency.

You have Musk and Ramaswamy with DOGE in the bullpen to give recommendations for massive govt. cuts.

You have Congress still wanting to stick it's hand in the cookie jar yet again, thereby creating a new precedent for not giving a rat's ass about the National Debt but continuing to fund pet projects with an unlimited credit card.

So how does Trump get the room to implement his agenda?

Pass a clean CR. Then propose and implement cuts that offset the expenditures needed to implement his agenda. If Congress doesn't play ball, you then go to the American people and say that he is attempting to implement his agenda promised to the American people, and DO IT RESPONSIBLY. And make it clear that Congressional Democrats created this mess, and are now standing in the way of repairing the damage.

All Republicans can then vote in lockstep, and the Democrats are the ones blocking the agenda. All the while, every person killed by an illegal, or any homeland terrorist act committed is done so with the tacit approval of the Democrats.

THAT's how you change the narrative, AND fix the problem.

Absolutely dishonest tweet…

He's using talking points and not facts…

Again…there is nothing to raise until Jan 1…
The FACT is that no matter what they do, the debt limit will be in place. The FACT is that Trump and Democrats want it gone so they have no fiscal roadbumps for insane spending. There is no dishonesty in that tweet. There is only attempted cover for fiscal irresponsibility from the apologists here.

I'll say this again. There is no debt ceiling when we blow right past it every single time with yet more spending.

It's a facade that only serves for getting R's to capitulate to D's on spending because it's actually a government shutdown issue. Nothing to do with debt in reality.

Why? Because neither party is ever going to cut spending. Ever.

So Trump simply wants it removed because it's one less thing that D's can hold over the R's head.

Trump is recognizing that reality and just wants it out of the way so he can work his agenda.

That's all this. Once you accept that spending is not getting cut then you can see this for what it is.

I don't disagree, but when we suspended it the last time, the Dems agreed to a 1% reduction in spending if they failed to pass the future CRs. That was the compromise with the Rs. However, the cuts never happened because Johnson folded each time.

To get a suspension by the Dems, you will have to give them something, most likely a spending increase.

But that's the other issue. Compromising with Democrats is a fool's errand. They are anti-American liars with no ethics. Every deal a R makes with a D ends up being giving the Dems what they want now and then the R's will get what they want later and it NEVER pans out. Because R's are Charlie Brown. Dumb m'fers most of them.

Do you want him to implement his agenda or not?

Or, do you want things to stay status quo for the next 4 years and nothing be done to fix the borders/immigration?

Y'all are fighting this at sea level and failing to see the big picture…
You're failing to see that this IS the status quo. You voted for a fiscal liberal, and that, along with the social liberalism, has gotten us into a bad spot economically. It cannot be fixed by financing it with more debt. You are falling for the trap of the big government "fix", that all they need to do is just have a little more money (what's a few Trillion between friends).

No. Just No.

Gotcha…

See you in 4 years when nothing has changed and we elect another D to make things even worse…
I don't think you get it. The amount that is spent is a bigger issue. You think the problems are immigration and who is in charge of spending the money? Those are childs play compared to what an 8 Trillion dollar budget does to government overreach and corruption. The issues you want Trump to deal with are emergent properties of an out of control federal government - they are just symptoms of the problem, not stand alone issues. You are trying to give ibuprofen to a diabetic instead of cutting off the sugar.
While I agree with you, tackle the low hanging fruit first...

The immigration problem is costing lots of states AND the fedgov a large amount of money.

Fix that and then move to the other issues...and even if Trump doesn't get there, that will STILL solve problems.
