What's the backstory of the dims talking point about him and the underage girl and sex trafficking?
IIRC, around 6 or 8 years ago, before he was married, he allegedly used an escort service for some dates. allegations came out years later- over 4 years ago- that one of his dates was under 18 at the time, which he may or may not have known. this is what they tried to bribe or blackmail him and his family about. he refused to pay the ransom, the news story "broke". libs melted down about Gaetz being a pedo because one of his dates years earlier might have been 17 at the time. it guess it's trafficking if he hired a date from an escort service in Florida and flew her to attand a gala or a dinner in DC. so he's not pure and worthy to be in government in liberal minds. it was investigated. They found nothing I guess, because it's been years since then and now he's married, been in congress for another term after that, and just reelected again.
Prosecutors allegedly decided against charging him because they would have had to prove Gaetz knew she was underage.

But Democrats are all in on the pedo. So why aren't they supporting him 100%?

Getting Gaetz out of the House is a positive in my opinion. He can go on his attention seeking journey now.

Looking at the numbers though the best the Republicans are going to do is have 222 in the house. More than likely going to be 221. Zero margin for anything until special elections are held. In New York it will be about 90 days from Stefanik's resignation. Not sure about Florida.

If Gaetz is really a throwaway pick, I expect him to take a flamethrower to the hearings and make all the Ds ever regret challenging another nomination. He's damn good in that role at minimum.

The problem is that the Republicans will only have a 52 seat majority. Assuming every Dem will vote no on Gaetz, they can only afford to lose 2 R votes.
Murkowski and Collins are almost certain no's. I'm affraid there are more "concerned moderates" in the Republican Senate caucus that will tank this nomination.

Which means they only need two more. There's enough congresscritters that hate Gaetz with the fiery passion of a thousand suns that the vote could be an embarrassment for him.

Gaetz is a firebrand for sure but I don't think he'll have the knowledge to manuever through that snake pit, including the FBI.

And having to call for, hold and then COUNT all of these special elections to replace departing House members makes Johnson's job very difficult herding the cats awaiting those replacement members.
Whether Johnson or the States, makes no difference...Trump is banking on at least 222 R's, but currently struggling at 217...he is shooting both feet off, 'cause he don't need them today...Bad Trump.

If Trump has to deal with Hakeem the Dream, he will lose all momentum and favorability...even if the R's revolt, it may take until Fall of 2025 to get R's back in charge.

I don't like it Sam I am, not at all.

So does his seat become vacant when he is nominated? Or when he is confirmed? Same for the other nominees. If they don't vacate their seat until they are confirmed, Johnson will have no issues getting elected again. Somebody may grandstand a bit, but it won't change things in the end.

I don't see Gaetz getting confirmed as even Rick Scott hates him.

this is a great way to lose political capital by wasting it on bad picks like Gaetz

you can find the exact same mentality in someone who hasn't been credibly accused of paying hookers and dating coeds.

When they are confirmed...but it will take 6 months to get special elections completed...and Dems can use McCarthy rule to vote Johnson out...

May be a recycle, yes, but just takes away from Trumps first 100 days, just more "interim" funding...not to mention the Musk/Ramaswamy confusion on the side...

He's making calls behind the scenes to get this axed. Also he's secretly hoping he resigns from Congress before confirmation.

Seat has to vacant before a special election is called. That means (in these cases) resignations must be submitted, irrespective if before confirmation or not.

A late resignation, say in December, can trigger an immediate call for a special election but that affects the majority in the House going into January, so a one trick pony that needs to be coordinated, very very closely.

That's the basis of my fear that this goes sideways fast if not handled appropriately with everyone and I mean everyone on the exact same page. Playing with fire, here.

but I don't think 75 million people elected the disrupter again because they want to force him to be play politics/ make compromises /not ruffle feathers /be all bipartisan and friendly so he can try not to lose political capital.

he has all the political capital he'll ever have right now, and he should be nominating people he thinks will help him achieve the things he said he was going to do.

for the positions that require senate confirmation, he's going to have to sell it to the 54 R senators to get at least 50 of them on board. if he can't do it, he'll move onto someone else.

Why would they resign in December when they can't even begin to start confirmation proceedings until at least mid-January? I would think a resignation from their seat in February would be more likely. And I would expect Desantis to call special elections pretty quickly. 3-4 months is probably the most I would expect it to take.

He is a surprising pick in some ways, but I'm okay with it. Trump had to spend so much of his time dealing with back stabbers during his first term and beyond. I feel like this pick is more about loyalty, and Gaetz has shown that towards Trump even when it put a huge target on his back.
