Seat has to vacant before a special election is called. That means (in these cases) resignations must be submitted, irrespective if before confirmation or not.
A late resignation, say in December, can trigger an immediate call for a special election but that affects the majority in the House going into January, so a one trick pony that needs to be coordinated, very very closely.
That's the basis of my fear that this goes sideways fast if not handled appropriately with everyone and I mean
everyone on the exact same page. Playing with fire, here.
