Getting Gaetz out of the House is a positive in my opinion. He can go on his attention seeking journey now.
Looking at the numbers though the best the Republicans are going to do is have 222 in the house. More than likely going to be 221. Zero margin for anything until special elections are held. In New York it will be about 90 days from Stefanik's resignation. Not sure about Florida.

If Gaetz is really a throwaway pick, I expect him to take a flamethrower to the hearings and make all the Ds ever regret challenging another nomination. He's damn good in that role at minimum.

for the positions that require senate confirmation, he's going to have to sell it to the 54 R senators to get at least 50 of them on board. if he can't do it, he'll move onto someone else.

I would think a resignation from their seat in February would be more likely. He is a surprising pick in some ways, but I'm okay with it. Trump had to spend so much of his time dealing with back stabbers during his first term and beyond. I feel like this pick is more about loyalty, and Gaetz has shown that towards Trump even when it put a huge target on his back.
