Listen to the Rogan interview with Dave Smith. He lays out the history of the conflict. Basically, forces in the military kept pushing nato until they got a reaction from Russia they wanted.

And then use the reaction to validate the Nato expansion. Geez, did no one learn the lesson of iraq & Afghanistan?

Any sovereign nation should be allowed to enter into whatever treaty they wish without fear of foreign invasion.

And I can't imagine why Russia's neighbors feel compelled to do so...

Who's invaded more countries in the last 50 years? The US or Russia?

How many times has Russia invaded Western Europe? How many times has Western Europe invaded Russia?

dude, give it up. russia invaded more countries in ww2 than germany did, and frankly started ww2 in the truest sense of the word, forcing both germany and japan's hands.

while i am not a fan of US foreign policy much since ww2, the fact is the russians invaded a **** ton of countries, probably as many or more than the US.

and the bigger difference is the US invades places to try to launder some money and pay lip service to making them better places. they are not brutal totalitarian genocidical invasions for territorial gain like all the russians' moves.

Can you list out the countries that each nation invaded?

Also, how is the USSR responsible for starting WWII?

Russia has been behaving like a terrorist state in this conflict. I don't know how OP could support them.

I could argue the Democrats are "behaving like a terrorist state", should we attack them?

The Democrats are bombing civilians? The news has been weirdly silent about that.

Terrorism involves much more than bombings. I hope you knew that.

What Russia is doing is orders of magnitude worse than anything the dems have done. But you already knew that too.

The Dems have killed millions of babies, and are trying to convince the masses that we will all perish in 5 years from global warming. I'd say that's pretty awful.

They did invade Poland and took half of it for themselves shortly after Germany started their invasion. The communication from Stalin that he would partition Poland with Hitler and not oppose the invasion precipitated the invasion, which turned out by Treaty to obligate France and Great Britain to declare war on Germany.

Arguably, the USSR had some part in starting the war with its own diplomatic and military actions, not expecting to themselves be attacked so soon.

I get the sentiment of wanting less (if not zero) dollars going to foreign defense aid, but if you are actively pulling for Russia, as you say, then there is no rational conversation to be had.

It's not that I like Russia as much as I hate our own politicians who are selling us out and wanting perpetual war. Ukraine is a pit of corruption they use to line their pockets. It's not just aid. We have troops over there actively engaging their troops. (You know this is the case)

We constantly have to have an enemy though or Lockheed, Raytheon, and Northrop won't their their billions in orders….
The politicians do what their big money donors tell them to do. Both sides of the aisle. That said, give Russia an inch and they'll realize we're willing to let them take a mile. Vlad feels under appreciated and wants the old, Soviet Union domination and intimidation back. As to projecting power around the world, it's all about access to raw materials, opening/maintaining markets to sell our goods to, and maintaining alliances to help us do that. Oh, and championing human rights. Okay, that last one…

The Soviets didn't force the Germans to invade Poland, they (the Germans) did it of their own free will.

The Japanese had already been at war with China for 5 years before they signed a non-aggression with the Soviets.

Also I think it's funny to think that the Germans invaded less nations than the Soviets.

Russia has literally murdered a few thousand Ukrainian civilians, leveled Ukrainian cities, and started a war for no reason that has resulted in somewhere in the range of a couple hundred thousand deaths on both sides.

No dems are ordering people to get abortions and their panic porn about global warming is dumb and pointless but comes nowhere close to leveling an entire country.

I said none of those things, FWIW. All I said was that Germany and the USSR were both eyeing each other suspiciously and were reticent to go into Poland, but they came to a non aggression agreement and agreed to partition Poland. That freed up Hitler to act without fear of an immediate Soviet threat. And that invasion began the shooting war in Europe.

I was just saying it is arguable that the Soviet handling of Germany leading up to the invasion of Poland helped initiate the war in Europe how and when it happened.

Communists and nazi's are bad. Stalin, of course, favored the Democrats over the Republicans, as did all subsequent Soviet premiers, including all of the Russian ones post-USSR to date. Joseph Robinette Biden met every single one of them in person since the mid-70's.

We don't seem to hold that whole war over Merkel/Germany's head any more, though.

We need more people to be strongly anti-communist today.

Some warnings from those times/shortly after are still valid to this day.

You're right and I apologize for making it seem like I put words in your mouth when I should've been replying to cbr. I agree that the non-aggression pact between the two played into Germany's invasion of Poland, but ultimately, the Germans were the first to shoot in Europe.

To be sure, and they definitely earn the great preponderance of the blame for the process of building up to it, unless we drag the fallout of the first war into the mix..

I have nothing against Russians as people. I really wish they would rein in their government and stop it from what it is doing to themselves and to others right now.

I think you've missed the point here. This isn't a love for Russia thread. It's a hate for being involved in foreign wars thread. Why are we giving them tens of billions of dollars when we already have runaway inflation? Why can't those wine and cheese eating Europeans with their bloated entitlement states fund Ukraine's war when it's in their backyard?

Why do we constantly have to create an enemy out of another European country with more nuclear warheads than us?
Same reason we made a European country an enemy who had more tanks?

1. We provoked Russia by putting NATO on their doorstep. Imagine If Russia had bases in the Bahamas or Mexico.

2. Our corrupt politicians in congress and the Biden's use Ukraine as a money laundering factory stealing our tax dollars.

3. I'm tired of seeing tens of billions of our taxpayer dollars go to Ukraine only for the money to be skimmed by their corrupt bureaucrats and the weapons we purchase sold on the black market. Imagine what $100B could do for our infrastructure and military. How many state of the art roads, schools, and battleships could that build? An aircraft carrier costs $13B for reference.

4. Ukraine has no shot to win. Better for Russia to end it and end the human suffering going on.

5. There are actual Nazis in Ukrainian military. Didn't those guys lead to 60M deaths in WW2? Why are we giving them guns and money. No thanks .

Geez, I'm embarrassed for you. I guess you call yourself an American…. I'd say unhinged.

Soviets invaded iirc 7 nations to start ww2, then Germany and ussr jointly split Poland.

Soviets spies in state and treasury depts duped Japan and us into war.

They also bankrupted and destroyed the British empire but never asked for a dime back from ussr.

Get out and learn real history, not just propaganda.

Ussr was 5x as evil and 1000x as dangerous as Japan or Germany

That's just the recent number. Try 5 million Ukrainian deaths during the Holodomore. The Russians are as evil now as they were then.

Let's all pray that country falls ASAP.

I DGAF about either nation. I love poking fun at Russians but in gest.

Whatever gives the USA a better hand in natural resources and a leg up. Let's go. I'm sick of caring about the rest of the world. I don't subscribe to an absolute non intervention foreign policy. But I'm all for let's protect our interests at all costs and leave the rest to fend for themselves. Sorry we aren't the worlds clean up crew and at some point when you have ****head family members, you have to look out for your nucleus family.

Agree with OP. Especially with the bio labs in Ukraine that we have a hand in. Russia is doing the world a favor by exposing this crap. Waste of money to "defend" Ukraine when what we are really defending are the bureaucrats and Washington scum's labs/secrets. Expose it all.

I'm not taking sides but have sat on something for quite a while. I was at an IACP Conference in Dallas about 6 months ago. Who do I see in uniform soaking up American culture? The Ukraine National Police- about 6 of them. They were staying in an upscale hotel and after hours- having nice cocktails and dinner. For a country that's been recently invaded- I still find this shocking. Imagine us being invaded and able bodied federal agents are at a conference in Paris enjoying Champaign! Its hard to be sympathetic to Ukraine after that BS. Yes I saw them- this isn't "Some friend of a friend saw that". Perhaps I'm overreacting but I wonder who paid for the flight, hotel stay, and meals? They are at war and sending their finest to Dallas!?!
