And they are not running for office, either. If they were, I would be opposed to them.

Happy now?

Interesting. Trump needs to be careful on his attacks on DeSantis, even his hard core base didn't like it much. Some of them look visibly upset and those are folks who stood out for God knows how many hours to be that close to the podium.

At this point, despite all the evidence to the contrary, many of you are just dying for any excuse not to vote for Desantis and still cling on to Trump.
You are barking up the wrong tree with me. I was a solid Cruz voter in 2016 and was very very slow to come around to Trump before the general. I considered 2016 an election between the evils of two lessers. And in 2016, Rove and the Bushes supported Hillary. That alone should give everyone pause.

And quite frankly, I wish Trump would just go away for awhile. I dislike Rubio because he was a McCain stooge. The company you keep as political bedfellows matter. Cruz and Lee appear to stay above the fray and stay true to their principles more so than other politicians. I would prefer to see them make a run.

But I am open to DeSantis winning me over, if he really wants to run an actual campaign.

My apologies then, sincerely.

I hear ya. But you see what Ags77 said. And there's lots of people who will show up to vote against Trump and won't do same with Desantis. I know several.

D and the media will do all they can to demonize whoever is the candidate. The problem with Trump is his antics further add fuel to that fire. Desantis won't put his foot in his mouth like that.
Agreed. Never underestimate the power of the hate vote.

Trump creates massive spikes in turnout, but those votes aren't all for him. Never Trumpers are just as passionate as hard-core Trumpers themselves.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but Desantis would likely safely deliver his home state which the Republicans must hold on to. That's a huge selling point for his candidacy. I think Floridians consider Trump a New Yorker and there's no presidential campaigning up there obviously. If the GOP loses Florida, they would have to get back Pennsylvania and Illinois at least. I think Desantis probably plays better in Pennsylvania.

Trump is attacking DeSantis from his Left because DeSantis has shown he is open to raising the SS Age in order to preserve it. Trump wants to pretend all is well and we can just keep going as is with SS and Medicare without reform.

That was really the setup for talking about how DeSantis actually isn't a good Governor of Florida and begged Trump to save him with an endorsement. The silence and awkward hum of the crowd is hard to ignore.

Where are the people who were saying that Trump was just playing 4D chess by slamming DeSantis? There were posts saying, "you all are idiots for falling for this. Trump is just trying to put all the heat on himself to clear the way for DeSantis." Where are these know it alls now?

Lol, Trump just looks dumber by the day.

First, he really does think that he spouts it then his followers will swallow it hook, line, and sinker. No matter how much of a blatant lie it is. Desantis is a horrible governor?

Second, loyalty? You want to talk loyalty, Donald? Let's let your wives speak first.

Yes, he does because that is what they do. We see it posted here. For another site, which in 2016 required a pledge of loyalty to Trump or you were banned, go read Free Republic, especially any thread by the user SoConPubbie.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. I agree, but nor should you hold your dislike of the Bushes against DeSantis.
Why not? I hold the recipients of Soros money and support against them. Don't trust their agenda. Nor do I trust the agenda of the Bushes and Rove. Is that Ron's agenda? I'm waiting to see more daylight between them on that score.

My saying on F16 is watch which pigs are squealing and what they are squealing about. I pay very little attention to what Trump says anymore, unless it becomes the major story of the week being repeated on loop endlessly.
The Bushes =/= Soros

I don't care for many of the Bushes' policy positions and their governing philosophy but I still believe they are good people and love this country.

Soros on the other hand, not so much.

Yep. One do the benefits of trump being such an undisciplined and impulsive moron is that there's always a tweet/soundbite. Not like his followers will care though.

I'm sure he didn't mention the fact that DeSantis is the only governor in the country who has removed a Soros appointed DA, who was probably contributing to running up numbers in his district.

Yeah, that doesn't help him at all. Sounds incredibly petty and disingenuous given his role in the Covid debacle.

It is also a stark reminder of how poor a speaker Trump is. I can't imagine waiting in lines and standing out in the heat to listen to that. If he and DeSentis ever debate, it isn't going to be pretty for Trump.

I hope DeSantis has or is putting together a strong rapid response team to answer to Trump's criticisms like this.

If the Democrats have proven anything, people not fully engaged in politics tend to hear the soundbite and remember it and over time it becomes truth, even when it's not or when there is more to the story.

Honestly, Trump must really be worried to be hitting this hard this early. I guess he wants to try and clear the field early and he thinks this is the best way to do it. He sounds a bit unhinged to me, and not in good command of the facts. One thing is for sure. He has one playbook and it's the only way he knows how to run. DeSantis can use that to his advantage because it's pretty easy to see through and predict.

It comes off incredibly arrogant and self serving when Trump claims DeSantis won only because of my endorsement, or beat the Democrat because only because of me. And it sounds like he expects some kind of loyalty oath from anyone he even mildly supports. Kiss the ring or you are automatically a bad person.

A little humility and graciousness can go a long way, and Trump has neither.

I saw another comment that encompassed why the crowd was so unresponsive that made perfect sense to me. It also shows why Trump needs to find a new tack and soon if he wants to win this race.

Is there anyone in that crowd yesterday that would rather have had Abbott instead of DeSantis as Governor for the last few years? How about when people in states that had it a lot worse than Texas start asking that same question? Eventually they will.
