This episode was grand and action packed, but also full of head-scratching character decisions.

It's interesting to me that some of you cannot see the difference in an old dragon Vs a young dragon being kind of important. Also dragons that are battle tested. Anyway, I think many just look for reasons to not like a show now a days.

Lol. This show has had its fair share of very obvious flaws. Don't act like the people criticizing it are just being too nitpicky.
I already pointed out that there were missed shots that occurred on the show so they are nitpicking stuff that is not happening. If you have to make up stuff to be able to nitpick that is telling.

Good call - I thought this was an immediate payoff for tons of establishing work done during S1 and S2 about the needs to train the dragons and their rider, to work on battle symbiosis, and to be deeply strategic when deciding how many (and which) dragons to send for any event.
The lack of control, discipline, coordination, and tactics really showed how much they can get in each others' ways and neutralize the advantage of having them.
Also from an engineering standpoint there's no WAY those scorpions would be launchable from ships with enough energy to carry the grapnels over that distance and elevation, dragging all of that rope behind them, and arrive at the dragon with enough energy left to pierce their skin - even if they could be fired as accurately as HOTD showed.
