Man I kind of like Alys.

She's at least unnerving. Her and Aemond are pretty compelling imo.

Mysaria is the worst character in this show by far. That accent...what the hell even is that? Every time she comes on the screen I can't take anything that's happening seriously.

You should watch Ex Machina. Literally all the Mysaria with none of the talking.

Man, this thread has more whining than Master of Coin Manderly. Love you guys, but I'm tuning out. This show isn't The Wire, but it is entertaining enough!

Wow! Thanks for letting me know she has a name. Never knew that.

Do most of the main characters have names? Next thing you'll be telling me is that WheelChair Boy and the guy they always called "Basterd" in the original series had names too!!

When you now claim you know her name but elected not to use it, it makes one wonder why. She's not a rando that just showed up in one episode this season, she's been around the entire series, and was clearly Daemon's daughter from the start. Just calling her "Sheepstealer's rider" seems kinda denigrating.
yea, I bet she's pissed!

Yeah, so dragons can die, lay stagnant without breathing for months or a year (whatever it's been), and then just roll back into it?

What's the point of the queen and the master of whispers hooking up?!? Just to give us a lesbian scene? Or to get a weird triangle going with the two of them and Daemon?

Ulf and the Hightower guy acted like they've spoken before….am I forgetting a scene? Are they implying that Hightower just rode out and sat down with him while he was watching over the town?

This thing has been disjointed and dragging badly.
Next thing you're going to tell us is you don't like lesbians?!?!

I fear it won't end cleanly. It will be a disjointed, clumsy and ham-fisted mess.

My dilemma is I love the Westeros universe, but I am starting to hate this show.

I love the lore, geography, ruling families, mysticism, political intrigue, moral ambiguity, subversion and cinematic scale.

I cannot overlook this show's poor writing and character development.

That's why I'm all for GRRM to pump out more AKOTSK novella's. It's the better show with better writing (mainly because of GRRM) and much better characters who you actually can root for and want to follow.

I thought the "You'll always be a *****" scene was unnecessary and way too on the nose.

I think we got that pretty clearly from her sex scene later.

One of the shows flaws is the "show not tell" dilemma. They need to trust the audience more.

This last episode when Rhaena says "I've always wanted a dragon of my own" was like the 5th time she's said it, we get it, you felt inadequate because you didn't have a dragon of your own...sheesh, enough already.

Manderly is the best character on the show. Dan Fogler rocks.

Any other show with writing this bad would get (rightfully) criticized. I don't know why so many people are acting like this show should get a pass.

This doesn't sound good. Maybe just overly dramatic, maybe something is really going on.

Remember me?

It's been a while, I know. My last blog post went up here on February 19. The posts that came after were made by my mighty minions. I am lucky enough to have a great staff of assistants… though even with their help, I kept falling further and further behind.

This year has been… stressful, to say the least. So much has been happening, it's been overwhelming. Some great things, exciting things. Dreams coming true. But there have been nightmares too. I have lost friends. Battled sadness and depression. The worst may be yet to come. I turned seventy-seven last September, and I tell you, getting old is no fun. But there have been amazing times as well.

I suppose that's just life. Of course, I knew that. If you've read my stories, you know that.

So much to post about… I will try and catch up some… and my minions will help… but my posts are likely to short and rushed.

One highlight you may already know. Emmy finalists for 2026 have been announced, and A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS nabbed nine nominations yes, 9, not damn including the big 0ne, Best Drama.

The awards ceremony will be Monday, September 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. I hope to attend… but that depends on… well, on a lot of things.

(I am proud of our team, and hope we take home a few of the statues, but I will confess that I was hoping we'd get a few of the acting nominations as well. But there's always next year).

The worst part of GRRM is he's got it all structured where no one will ever be ever to take over the writing of ASOIAF. So it's not just that he won't finish the books, but that's ensured that no one else ever will either.

So much complaining. Episode was great.

Ppl complaining that a dragon came back but no prob with petrified eggs being hatched after centuries?

I enjoy the show for what it is. Not as good as GOT but I still like watching.

The only criticism I have is HOD doesn't motivate me to route for, or against, any one person. Their characters just aren't as good as a Joffrey, Tyrian, etc...

I kind of wonder if that is by design. I don't know how the source is written, but my guess it's all supposed to be morally ambiguous in who is the hero. There are no heroes, really, in this story. Right now I'm rooting for 2 things. Aegon's revenge tour (which I imagine will be short) and the death of Alicent.

I thought about that too. Maybe the story is supposed to be a ****show full of morally average characters and none are really fit to lead. That said, the show could benefit from a couple of true villains.

This has been my main issue as well. It feels natural to pull for Rhaenyra since Viserys chose her, and I think the show has done overall a good job of her struggling with the weight of actually being in charge of KL and starting to distrust everyone and become an "ends justifies the means" type of person.

But most of the characters are pretty unpleasant people, and while that might be GGRM's intent in the overall message about House Targaryen being that they were worshipped like gods when there were just a few of them and they all had giant dragons, but once you realized you could kill them and they started marrying other people and proliferating, they became just as flawed as everyone else. But that's an odd thing to make a TV series about, especially with no little humor to offset the realization that just about everyone is terrible.

And really, if you're going to have a guy hallucinate he's banging his mom, but he's really banging Terrible Character 1A on the show, and then later on Terrible Character 1 is lesboing up the queen, and you can't give us any nudity at all, you clearly don't understand your audience.

I asked my wife what she thought the biggest difference was between GOT and HOD. She only paused for a moment and said " a lot less sex".

I would chalk up Ormond as a true villain so far for sure. And even with how awesome the Sunfyre return scene was, until he proves otherwise and does something redeeming, Aegon is on my **** list as well. Aemond seems like a pretty terrible person to root for, I hope he dies soon. I think there are several people to definitely root against, but I agree there are few to actually root for.

Daeron is one that seems to have a good heart so far. Loved his speech to Gwayne in Ep 7. "I have no fear of insignificance".

Manderly is hilarious and my wife and I both found ourselves laughing a lot in Ep 7. Deamon having to say "Please" to the Lady of the Vale had us rolling. It's funnier than I remember past seasons being.

But yes, it is getting disjointed and they need to bring it back together. Curious because all the book readers seem to say we have a lot to get through in one more season - hope they can land the plane...err dragon....

Eh, it will be like the Harry Potter movies. They will have to cut and/or condense a LOT (already have), but the main themes will get handled.

I think the show deserves a lot of credit for how it's writing Rhaenyra. Her "turn" has happened so gradually and deliberately that many might not even realize how much she's changed since taking the throne.

I think most of us are still on her side I'm sure, but asking Alicent to abet in the murder of her own son was probably just as bad or worse than anything Alicent has done.

Admittedly it's pretty concerning considering GOT's track record. S8 condensed at least 1.5 seasons worth of story into 6 episodes, and suffered greatly for it.

I will admit I haven't enjoyed Rhaenyra's slide into "unlikeable." Maybe she was always unlikeable, for some, but as you said, viewers were probably on her side b/c of her dad. I kind of wonder if she should just let go of the desire to be liked by the people. Just take your dragon and burn out Ormund while Vhagar is not in the game. Your reputation isn't great already, and you're a Targaryen for crying out loud. What else is there to stand in the way? A couple of other houses that will still not like you, but will not want to be burned out of history?

HOTD is doing a good job of condensing/leaving characters out of the story IMHO. Not really a spoiler but just in case: there are multiple green and black armies led by various loyal houses having battles that are getting condensed. We'll have X battles to come vs 2-3X.

GOT didn't condense; they crammed.
