They mentioned multiple times why the Blacks were not going to use dragons during the battle. To avoid exactly what Ulf did.

Daemon got on Caraxes to open the gate as a plan B when the Starks couldn't get it open themselves.

Yeah but to the point - if you're one of ~10 people in the realm with a dragon, why would you ever try to fight off your dragon? It's the biggest "check mate" there is. Daemon leading the army? Ok, I guess so. But wtf is Hugh doing rushing in when he was currently the biggest dragon on the board?

Hugh is defying a direct order. He is supposed to be at Dragonstone. But he's not; he's at Tumbleton. Why? His wife. And he's not going to find her flying around on a huge dragon.

He isn't thinking rationally.

I am rooting for Aegon at this point. Rhaenyra is a mess.

I love how Ormund's entire plan hinged on a drunk loser who fell backwards into being a dragon rider.

Ormund was painted all season as a guy with thousands of spies that provide him tons of information, fomenting insurrections and defections all across King's Landing and yet he can't find the most important person he needs for the battle.

A tale as old as time.

Hugh should have got some strange and moved on.

There's enough good stuff that I will watch the last season as well, but I don't think id ever recommend someone start this series either.

Contemplating just reading his book to learn the remaining plot points instead

If she had left Tumbleton when Hugh tried to get her, she'd still be alive.

The best part of last night's episode is that it's over and Lanterns comes out in 6 days.

MVP: The guy playing Aegon, hilarious and magnificent.

Unfulfilled wish
That in the middle of Rhaenrya's speech outside the sept, someone in the crowd had yelled, "Nobody ****ing cares!"

I think you hit the two extreme ends of the finale for me. The guy playing Aegon seems to be the only actor on the show having a good time, he's all the way in. He, and Corlys, are the only characters I think I enjoyed when the story would move to their perspective. The guy playing Aegon understands that the audience needs to be entertained.

Rhaenrya's speech is a microcosm of the show overall to me, a big swing and a miss. I thought it was pretty sad really, did the writers want this to hit harder? It just felt like posturing, pure and simple. Her audience accepted her speech about as well as the viewers have accepted the show in general.

Their only hope for the final season is to lean into Aegon as much as possible because that actor is the only one bringing anything to the show at this point. I read Fire and Blood so I know what's coming in the overall plot, the only question is how the show gets there.

I thought her speech worked inasmuch as she came off wildly desperate on the heels of having the priests murdered, and it just seemed like nobody was buying it.

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they were going for. She's completely lost her grip. She's floundering.

This is my thought. The speech was her turn into madness, and no one was buying it. Its to show how disconnected she is from reality. I guess in some ways you have to make it long and drawn out to achieve that.

What's wild is Alyn of Hull quietly became my favorite character. Not because he killed the High Septon, just because he is a brooding character who does his duty and asks for nothing really. Unlike his little b**** brother Addam.

And yes, Aegon is still a sadistic SOB but his comeback will be interesting next season.

Daemon's screentime in the finale was so good. I don't care that he was on horseback then dragonback then off again. He didn't think he would need to battle Ser Ulf.

Tommy Flanagan as Lord Dustin seems wasted but that's a minor gripe.

There will be a lot of chaos in season 4 and I'm looking forward to it. This show has been drawn out for sure and has its lows but still more interesting than not. Knowing the basics of the ending, it should be pretty bad ass but like someone else pointed out, the intriguing part of seaosn 4 will be how gets all tied together.

There really could be another few seasons focusing on the reign of Aegon IV also under the name of "House of the Dragon" that could bridge some of the next 80 years between the end of the Dance and AKOTSK.

My thought as well. It was supposed to be a swing and miss. I was cringing the entire time at how bad it was, and took it that it was intended to be that way. We are supposed to think she has lost it.

I think the writing an acting for her character have been great. Each episode she loses it a little more, all the way down to the finale where she finally hits bottom. We never got that with Dany and people complained that we didn't see the descent. Well we are getting that now and people are still complaining - lol. I thought it was well done.

There still isn't anyone really worth rooting for on the show. I suppose Daeron since he seems like the most well adjusted and maybe Aegon just because it should be a fun arc to follow but man, there are just a ton of characters that nobody cares about or is invested in at all.

Did anyone really give a s*** that Haelena killed herself? Does anyone care if Alicent dies on the road? Is anyone invested in any of Corlys' kids (especially Allyn or Addam). Just character after character that is a complete snoozefest.

Oh well, at least A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is slated for first half of '27.

The show should have poked fun at itself and had Alys tried to convince Aegon to stay a while at Harrenhal and him say "I don't have time to waste wandering around here for months at a time."

This is the whole point of both GOT and HOTD. Martin is a dark soul.

There were TONS of characters to root for on GOT plus there was comedy to lighten the dark aspects of the show which is woefully missing from HOTD.

Martin is a dark soul but he wrote compelling characters WITH levity for both GOT and AKOTSK but since HOTD was more of a historical summary it fell onto the showrunner and writing room to work some magic...which they've failed at so far.

Been in Alaska the last two weeks got caught up last night.

I thought the last outfit with the chain mail that Rhaenyra on was pretty kick ass. But she has annoyed me in her weakness. She's a little stronger in the last one, but good Lord woman, quit whining. You are showing exactly why you shouldn't be queen.

Never really understood why Daeron didn't just get on his little dragon and burn the crap out of Ormond and everyone and just fly away a long time ago. I guess he's just young and thinks he can't do that.

I thought Ormund's death and the death of Roderick was awesome. It was even funnier to watch in the making of show.

I always remember him from gladiator. He's a pretty tough dude irl.

I will say I have not been that fond of the Olf character, but his ending was pretty kick ass

And ew on Aemond dreaming about getting it on with his mom.

House of dragons was never going to come close to the masterpiece that Game of Thrones was. But I can enjoy it in its own right. I do like that it has more dragons. People will just set themselves up to fail if they think it will be as good. Just enjoy it for what it is.

I have to give the writers credit that I'm still fully understanding her desperation and "turn" at this point. And pretty much still on her side overall, though she's obviously making a ton of bad moves.

But all the groundwork was laid for 2 seasons, so it did not come out of nowhere.

She's a great and very well-written character IMO.

I think you're confusing a hero character you can root for, with well-written character. Two very different things, and I would argue Rhaenyra, Daemon, and Alicent are all excellent characters.

Now could the show use more comic relief? Absolutely.

Game of Thrones initial seasons was spectacular but there is a very real argument that A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms is the best GRRM adaptation yet.

They did that show right. Can't say enough good things about it

Well, there has been only one season of AKOTSK so far, so they still have plenty of time to cock it up. But yes, that one season was great, one of the best shows of the year so far.

Not at all, the monarch I mentioned -- Aegon IV -- is downstream in the Targaryen family tree from all of the characters in House of the Dragon by a good 40 years. The name by itself is not a spoiler, even less of a spoiler than if someone would have posted Egg from AKOTSK is actually Prince Aegon Targaryen.

I did end up liking a night of the seven kingdoms more than I expected to.

I think it was the casting. Especially Egg and Dunk. I also think on both shows the casting of the ancestors in all of the lines are very good. They're keeping the same looks and coloring for the most part, Sands the kids, Being Targaryen's with the dark hair, even though everyone knows they're not. Or at least half not.

But now they changed it to the nine kingdoms. It'll be interesting to see how they get back down to seven.

if I'm not mistaken House of dragons takes place 200 years before GOT and Knights takes place about 100 years before of course they're about 40-ish years into that now on HOD.
