Ancient Rome had a lot of things, classical music with a full orchestra was not one of them.

That's like a slight step above 4Chan, and on par with Facebook in terms mindless, squealing nonsense.

Did you really just say that over an opinion of a movie trailer?
Do you know how many times modern music - even hip hop - has been used in trailers for period pieces? Far too many to even count.
Some of you really are being so insanely precious and weird about this.

But the trailer's purpose is to get people excited, and it's done the complete opposite to a lot of us so far. It's OK if a lot of people think it looks like *****
This is one of the few times I'm seeing a stark difference in reactions here vs social media/online in general, and it's just fascinating to try and figure out why. Most people seem super amped for this movie now, are way more interested than they were, etc. There's a ton of buzz out there, and it's fun to see. Then you come here and it basically just sounds like a bunch of middle-aged dudes complaining about rap music. I absolutely get the potential story concerns, and agree to an extent, but I simply think the whole rap thing is being overblown and could potentially be clouding people's judgment of the movie itself, that's all.

Did you look at the YouTube comments, by chance? About 70% of them are about the music.
It's not a Texags only complaint about the song choice.

I was talking more about the reaction to the movie itself in that particular response. People can diss the trailer music all they want, my argument was more that people seemed to be linking the movie's quality to the music choice in a trailer. In other words, the music choice was not only dominating the conversation, but it felt like certain people couldn't look past it, and thus already weren't even giving the movie itself a shot because of it. Which seems insane to me. Again, that's not to say everyone who didn't like the music felt that way, that was just the impression I was getting from certain posts.

That's all more than fair, and I simply wish certain opinions would have been expressed in exactly this manner, as opposed to the old-dudes-endlessly-whining-about-rap vibe we almost exclusively got instead.
While I don't think it's a terrible trailer by any means, I do agree that the plot isn't being effectively marketed. But again, we're five months out, and this is effectively an extended teaser trailer, which are often void of plot, and more about a vibe. So before I start claiming the sky is falling, I want to see how the marketing evolves, and of course see what we get with the end product, before getting as upset as some people here seem to be.

The first step is firing the people who made that trailer and to never insert modern music into a period piece ever again especially not one with one of the best original musical scores of all time. Do that and maybe it can be saved. As it is, this trailer told most people to wait until streaming.

For the umpteenth time... THIS WON'T BE THE ONLY TRAILER.
Why do you guys keep acting as if it's the only piece of marketing there will ever be for this movie, and that everyone who sees it has to make a decision right here and now as to whether they're going to see the movie itself five months from now?
Sure, first impressions count for a lot, and I won't argue that they haven't dug themselves a hole with a segment of the eventual audience.
But marketing nowadays, for a single movie, especially across this many months, often varies in tone from one trailer/spot to the next. One trailer/spot will market to one group while another trailer/spot will market to another.
And they'll do the same here.
This was the big-summer-fun, grab-your-attention trailer for a new generation. And then down the line, come September/October, everyone else who wants the Hans Zimmer score will likely get that version too.
This is so standard and so obvious that I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

It won't be the only trailer, but it's the only one most people will see for months. Especially when we all go see Deadpool & Wolverine 5 times in 8 weeks. So it's going to get played for ages. And since they were so secretive about putting out anything else, it's the only thing out there media wise other than maybe a magazine.
Two more notes - I know Denzel is too old to be a gladiator, but I feel like he and Mando should have switched roles to play to their strengths. Mando feels much more of the charmer and the grifter, and Denzel feels more like the military hard ass.
Second my wife says the main actor is "hairy and gross" and "at least give her something to look at."
To be clear, I Iike a ton of rap music, and listen to it frequently, but Spilner is right, put any track from the original soundtrack and it gets heaps of praise. They should have learned from the Maverick trailer how to do nostalgia. Just done some close up faces, the arena, the noise the crowd, and you have nothing but positives.

Throw me next to TCTTS then. I loved the song choice. But even if I didn't like it, there are two things I find funny about some of the criticisms:Cliff.Booth said:
