Only casting I truly dislike is Zoe Kravitz. But that's just because I don't think she can act

Just realized that Serkis might be the only actor/filmmaker to pull off the superhero hat trick...

DC/WB - The Batman
Marvel/Disney - Black Panther
Marvel/Sony - Venom 2 (directing)

Anyone else have a hand in all three corporate superhero iterations?
Slightly different trifecta, but Joss Whedon on an unofficial level:

Marvel/Disney - The Avengers/Age of Ultron
Marvel/Fox - X-Men (uncredited script doctor)
DC/WB - Justice League (uncredited director)

I also feel like J.K. Simmons should get an honorable mention, since he was in Fox's Spider-Man movies, and now apparently is playing the same role in the weird Disney/Fox crossover Spider-Man, and then was in Justice League as Commissioner Gordan.

Still pretty rare I think. And one I just realized and very relevant to this thread, Zoe Kravitz.

Marvel/Fox - X-Men First Class (Angel Salvadore)
DC/WB - The Batman (Catwoman)
Marvel/Sony - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Mary Jane)

Had no idea she voiced MJ.

I didn't either, I had actually thought of Liev Schreiber and was browsing to see who else might have been voice talent that we'd missed and noticed her.

Oh, and the latest Planet of the Apes trilogy.

So crazy.
Can someone cast him in the Missions Impossible series, too?

John Turturro casted as Carmine Falcone. I hope he has a bigger role than in Batman Begins. Very interesting casting.

The acting talent in this movie will be incredible, and we aren't even done casting yet.

I honestly didn't think the cast of the Nolan trilogy could be topped. But this is coming pretty damn close so far. Hopefully it also speaks to the quality of the script, all these huge names coming aboard.

I know the DCEU is dead but they're still gearing up for a series of these movies, right? Just with no crossovers?

Yep, same here. Just not happy with her as Catwoman.

I'll play devil's advocate and admit I'm starting to get a little worried... Reeves has proven to be a really solid director, so I'm sure he'll turn out something good. But this thing is getting really, really bloated.

Same feeling here. Until I see otherwise I'll trust him, but it does seem like they're cramming too many name villains into this.

I agree, and I've gone on record saying how much I love The Long Halloween... but I also don't think it can effectively be made into a two hour movie. It would play really well as a 12 episode series on HBO.

Time will tell and I'll just give this team the benefit of the doubt for now.

Very much agreed (and I said this like 2 villains ago soooo yeah).

HBO Max should put a super well done Batman show on it. Seeing the mysteries play out over the course of 10-12 episode seasons would be phenomenal.

I hear you. Though, I'm going to go with C@LAg and guess that, The Long Halloween adaptation or not, some of these roles will be glorified cameos, if not two or three scenes, max.

That, and Batman Begins had to service...

- Bruce Wayne/Batman
- Ra's Al Ghul/Ducard
- Gordon
- Alfred
- Rachel Dawes
- Scarecrow
- Lucious Fox
- Carmine Falcone

... not to mention Earle (Rutger Hauer) and Flass in smaller supporting roles.

Which doesn't seem that far off from The Batman's cast of...

- Bruce Wayne/Batman
- The Riddler
- Gordon
- Alfred
- Catwoman
- The Penguin
- Harvey Dent/Two Face
- Carmine Falcone

... especially if Two Face, Penguin, and Catwoman, in particular, are presumably being set up more for sequels, as has been rumored. That, and everything I keep reading says this is leaning into the idea of a rogues' gallery of villains for Batman to have to face, so I'm assuming the format of the movie will play to that idea. In other words, maybe it's more like a video game, where each of these guys is either the respective boss of a new "level," or there's an element of clue collecting going on, where Batman has to encounter or defeat one guy, then "collect the clue" in order to be able to move on to the next clue/guy. I've never read The Long Halloween, but it sounds kind of like that general idea? If so, I think it's less of an adaptation and more of a very loosely "inspired by" kind of thing, where it's only using the basic format, if anything at all.

Eeh.... I still think there's a big difference between serving Rachel and Lucious Fox than the Riddler and the Penguin. "Setting up for sequels" makes me think of Amazing Spiderman 2, too.

They can set themselves up for a lose/lose with some superfans if it doesn't go quite right. Small example, but some people were mad that Ronan the Accuser didn't have a bigger role in Captain Marvel. But if his glorified cameo had been just some Kree general, those same fans would probably be saying "why not just use Ronan, it fits with the timeline."

If Two-Face is just a cameo, some fans will get their hopes up and wish it had just been some monster instead - especially if they don't totally nail the character with his 1-2 scenes

It actually makes me think of Leto in Suicide Squad. Can you nail this much-hyped, fan-favorite character in 10 minutes of screen time? If not, I think you'd better shelf it for later.

Just some poopoo thoughts, I'm sure it'll be fine. But I don't think I've seen any Reeve films either so it's just extra interesting from the sidelines.

If JG has been cast it seems likely as Dent instead of Two-Face if they're really doing The Long Halloween with a view to sequels. In TLH we see the transformation but it seems like something to push to another film without much drama.

TLH done right really has Gordon and Dent playing almost equal billing with both Bruce Wayne and Batman as heroes. They'll have to be careful not to mirror TDK too much, because it borrowed some elements there.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. It definitely seems like a high wire act no matter which way you slice it. That said, I still think that Reeves' script for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is one of the best blockbuster scripts of the decade. It's just so perfectly structured, so tight, and the arcs so expertly handled that I have faith he knows what he's going here. He comes across as such a sound, meticulous expert who understands exactly how to tackle large-scale blockbuster filmmaking in nuanced and interesting ways. So knock on wood, but I can't imagine him screwing this up. And like I said a few days ago, nor can I see all of these huge actors coming aboard if they didn't think the script was amazing or that they're respective parts weren't something they can really sink their teeth into. I mean, this cast is incredible. And surely it's incredible for a reason.
