I'd say definitely somewhat pandemic related, but a better comparison to me is to the other Batman movies. Does the general public just have Batman-fatigue?

I know some Asian countries are having a big COVID flare up, but it is really interesting to see.

A solo Joker/villain origin movie had never been done before, in just that way. It felt fresh at the time (even though it continues to age poorly and I've never once revisited it since the theater).

Batman, on the other hand, is essentially on its fourth modern iteration. I consider Burton/Schumacher one, the TDK trilogy two, and Batfleck three. Including Battinson, the final three iterations have had only three or fewer years between them. So, yeah, probably a little Bat-fatigue, and a little bit having to do with Marvel still being king as well.

And then there's definitely some lingering pandemic hesitation, but I actually actually think the situation in the Ukraine might have impacted it in the slightest as well. People have been glued to the news, there's legit talk of nukes and WWIII, gas prices are soaring, etc, and some simply might not be in the mood for a Batman movie right now, given the current state of affairs.

Also, as I've been saying for a while now, early March is just a weird time to release a blockbuster like this. In a perfect world, it absolutely should have been either an October movie (when Joker and Dune released) or a summer movie. Early March is kind of no man's land, and it's almost like, subconsciously, people aren't in-tune this time of year for a movie like this.

I think it's a weird rating too. Rated PG-13, but not really something that works for anyone below 16. Had it been rated R, it might have made more money by pulling in an older crowd ready for another R super hero movie. Just seemed like it is stuck between PG-13 and R and is therefore for neither crowd.

I have nothing of great substance to add since I generally agree that this movie was good to great in just about every category, so here are two things I shouldn't care about but do

1) Bale looked like a Bruce Wayne who people might suspect is Batman because he was built like a dude who could beat your ass. Pattinson is great but his physique made the beating up 20 guys at once and having the upper body strength to dangle from a suspended platform scenes a little harder to imagine than they should be.

2) Selena Kyle doesn't need to be smoking hot but for a 3 hour movie I kind of wish she was.

$66M domestic for its second weekend is pretty awesome. Great word of mouth definitely doing its thing.

Just got out. First 2/3 of the movie were fantastic. Last third dragged on. Felt like they good have cut out 20mins and made it even better.

That's an incredible hold.

Only big question at this point is whether it can hit $1B worldwide.

But I gotta think a sequel announcement comes soon, right? I'd bet within the month.

This is a dynamic character catwoman, which is fine, not the typical eye-candy fetishized version. I'd personally take both.

isnt there a theatre on the base? i feel like i saw a movie there many years ago. one of my fondest movie memories is seeing super troopers 2 on a japanese base and when they made the japanese joke when ole boy had a mishap with his fly the theatre erupted. it was hilarious. pretty sure that was opening night as well.
