Btw, the theater tonight went absolutely ape sh*t for the latest trailer, which played before Dune. The second the opening shot of the diner came up, half the crowd already knew exactly what it was and started cheering. Then, at the end, as the title formed over the upside down shot of Batman walking toward the camera, the place just erupted. It was crazy. And so fun.

It is one of the best trailers I have ever seen. Totally captures the dark aspect of Batman. My wife, who I thought would love this, actually said that it was "too dark" for her. Too gritty. I totally disagree with that. But she hasn't read some of the classic Batman story lines. That upside down scene at the end from the Penguin"s perspective with that music was awesome. Gave me chills....Hope the actual movie is that good.

The upside down scene and the hallway scene really drive home the force of nature that Batman is supposed to be in my mind. I can't stop smiling when I see the trailer. Really wish my wife had videoed me watching it for the first time.

Also my wife is also not wanting to go see it. She loved Joker and likes the DC movies, but she said it won't match The Dark Knight so she doesn't want to see it.

Absolutely love that they're exploring the The Batman universe. Colin Farrell confirmed to be doing a Penguin show on HBO Max.

Japanese trailer with new footage. There is a minor spoiler at the end, but not something I think people couldn't have guessed/figured out before.

Riddler knows Batman is Bruce Wayne

Hah, this cover reminds me that I used to mishear the lyrics from Queensryche's song Empire as "Batman trapped again / hold his chains in his hands" instead of "Black man trapped again / hold his chains in his hand".

For what its worth, based on the quote Reeves gave in the lead up to the trailer today, they're going for a Bruce Wayne as "a recluse rock star in a decaying Wayne Manor" kind of thing. So, through that lens, the Trent Reznor/dark-haired Kurt Cobain vibe feels very intentional (and gives the score a bit more meaning/intentionality too).

Here's a quote from Reeves in Empire Magazine set to come out next week:

"When I write, I listen to music, and as I was writing the first act, I put on Nirvana's 'Something In The Way',"

"That's when it came to me that, rather than make Bruce Wayne the playboy version we've seen before, there's another version who had gone through a great tragedy and become a recluse. So I started making this connection to Gus Van Sant's Last Days, and the idea of this fictionalised version of Kurt Cobain being in this kind of decaying manor."

The ideal actor for the job? Pattinson, whose astonishing performance in the Safdie Brothers' Good Time had caught Reeves' attention. "In that movie you could really feel his vulnerability and desperation, but you could also feel his power," the director explains. "I thought that was a great mix. He's also got that Kurt Cobain thing, where he looks like a rock star, but you also feel like he could be a recluse."

Despite Spider-Man's insane box office this weekend, I have a sinking feeling Omicron is going to push this to summer-ish. It's the first big blockbuster of 2022, New York is starting to shut down, some crazy case numbers are being predicted for January, etc.

For the record, I think Omicron will come and go incredibly fast, and then that'll be it for the pandemic essentially. But for the immediate future, the writing's on the wall that all the big cities are about close up, and no studio is going to want to release a movie in that environment, during Q1 2022. Really hope I'm wrong, though…

Apparently we are not getting an origin story, and instead being thrust into an already existing Batman. He did say that he's still trying to figure out how to be Batman, so we will definitely see his growth.

The Batman is not part of WB's multiversal plans for DC, according to producer Dylan Clark.

Quote:

Warner Bros. has a multiverse where they're exploring different versions of the character…We don't get involved in that

Holding out major hope that we get a bat family universe with MCU level connectivity.

Also,

Quote:

"I've made a kind of map for where Bruce's psychology would grow over two more movies," he says. "I would love to do it."

That's awesome. I'm so glad this will remain its own thing, that they have a plan, and that Pattinson is all in. At least three movies and two series in the works so far. Cannot wait.

I also can't help but wonder when/how the Joker will show up in this iteration. Especially considering Dano's Riddler feels *very* Joker-esque. But maybe that frees up this version of the Joker to be a little more wild/zany/different.
AgfromHOU

Rumors are that Barry Keoghan is Joker in this universe, and that they've been testing a version with and without him.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Hmmm. Hadn't heard that, but just did some digging and it sounds dubious at best. That said, the Screen Crush guy seems to think Joker could be in it as well, but it just doesn't make sense to me. Why Reeves would want to force him into this first movie, that already has Riddler, Penguin, Catwoman, I have no idea.
AgfromHOU
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Agreed. We do know Keoghan is in the movie, and his brother is either telling the truth that he's playing Joker, or just trolling.

I don't mind Joker being referenced, or even being a background character, I just don't want him to be the main villain in the movies.
Sex Panther

I have heard that rumor as well although it seems to stem solely from the internet learning Keoghan is in the movie and thinking it's suspicious he has been kind of hidden.

I do agree at this point he seems like too big an actor to be absent from the promos and just a mid-level role. And he definitely has a villainous "it factor". It certainly makes you raise your eyebrows.
TCTTS

The "hidden" thing feels like an overreaction to me, if only because John Turturro is in the movie as well, as Carmine Falcone, and we haven't seen a frame of him yet either.

Yeah, saw that. Something about it just feels off, though. For one, that news was never "out," as he's the one who essentially fanned the flames of the rumor, if not outright started it. That, and it would just be unbelievably reckless, to the point of likely being in breach of contract. These actors aren't just told to keep quite, they're contractually obligated to. So not only telling his brother, but his brother then just babbling about it on social media, feels so ridiculously careless, and doesn't add up to me at all.
