I want to agree but I think it's a reach. Other than the first few notes of the Nirvana Unplugged version, I don't hear much commonality. I think they came up with the theme music first (from the camera reel), and then searched for the matching "slowed down version of an old song for dramatic effect" that we hear in so many trailers these days.

That trailer is just awesome. It looks like it could have been made in 1995. It has that very dark neo noir video that the 90s was obsessed with. Very Seven / Crow like.

To me, it seems like even more of a reach to think that they went searching for a song to match the theme almost exactly, actually found one, and that song also happened to work phenomenally well in a trailer (and have perfectly creepy/thematic lyrics to boot). The song and the score are flawlessly blended in the trailer. There's no way that's a coincidence, and I just don't see the point in endlessly scouring music libraries to find matching chords for the sake of a trailer. I'm sticking to my theory until it's either officially debunked or confirmed.

I think I'm interested in seeing if they give Andy Serkis's Alfred any sort of physicality in this film.
The previous 3 incarnations of big-screen Batman: Jeremy Irons, Michael Caine, and Michael Gough
have all been old dudes by the time they took on the role. Irons was 68 in Dawn of Justice, Caine was 72 at the time of Batman Begins and 79 for The Dark Knight Rises; and Michael Gough was 73 when he was in the first Batman in '89 and 81 for Batman and Robin.
Serkis is "only" 56 by comparison and has some very physical roles, including a couple of fight scenes as Ulysseus Klaue in Black Panther in 2017.
But we know from the comics that Alfread has and still can be a bad-ass at times. He's used a shotgun to defend himself, he get kidnapped from time and time and proves he has some combat training, and helps the Bat with tactical strategy from time to time. I'd like to see him a little more involved physically, especially with Bruce still so young.

I enjoyed the teaser and am hopeful. Couple points:
1. The look of the older white guy at the press conference (I assume he is the current police commissioner or mayor) standing next to Gordon stuck with me. The look was haunting.
2. The boy wasn't close to getting run over by that SUV. They'll need to sharpen their editing before release.

I think in the beginning this movie he is still dealing with the trauma of his parents' death and maybe at the end of the movie he learns how to put on the mask of Bruce Wayne.
For some reason he reminds me almost of the Batman Beyond cartoon character.

Will be hard to top Nolan's films though. That trilogy was and remains fantastic..

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are damn near flawless. But, IMO, The Dark Knight Rises is the blemish that opens up the *possibility* that this iteration could potentially overtake the Nolan trilogy one day. Granted, I recently rewatched TDKR, and it's better on the fifth or so go around, as its flaws can be more easily forgiven all these years later, but it definitely tainted the sheen of Nolan's efforts a bit. I don't know that anything will ever top TDK, or Ledger's performance, but as a whole, the Reeves films at least have a shot at overcoming the Nolan films, if only because of TKDR.
Would love to know what Nolan intended to do in the third film before Ledger died.
I read somewhere that it would have been more about Joker standing trial and keep some of the elements of the Dent Act that TDKR had
I was excited to see that Jeffrey Wright will be continuing his portrayal of "smart confused guy who doesn't grasp what's going on or his role in it"

From the perspective of a longtime Batman fan, I feel like Nolan's films missed a lot of the World's Greatest Detective aspect and some other more subtle pieces.
I thoroughly enjoyed them and still watch them, they were great crime/action films and Ledger's performance is one for the ages, but I feel like they aren't a definitive telling of the character. Reeves feels like he might be on the right track with that, we shall see.

I loved the take on this in the Batman Beyond animated series.
There's an episode where a villain is sending older Bruce Wayne messages in his head, making him think he's going insane. At the end of the ep, Terry (young Batman) asks Bruce how he knew he wasn't going insane, and he replies something to the effect of "The voice kept calling me Bruce. In my mind, that's not what I call myself."

After watching the trailer a couple of times it looks like the bat cave could be either an abandoned subway station or Wayne Manor is in ruins. Now, I'm feeling it's the latter. That would totally fit the mood of this film, a Bruce Wayne that doesn't lead a life of luxury by day and vigilante crime fighter by night. He's in a darker place, not throwing lavish parties as a part of his guise, he's left that life behind possibly. Maybe I'm just swayed by the tone of the trailer, but damn I'm excited about this.

wasn't this the main story line how this was planned and Bane was able to get Batman in his moment of weakness due to having to round everyone else up first? Would have loved to see that on film.

I think it's the opposite...there was a point made earlier about how Pattinson's Wayne doesn't look like the clean-cut, suave Bruce Wayne that everyone expects from Nolan's portrayal...rather, this is a Bruce Wayne that can't compartmentalize it all yet and is learning to cope with the responsibilities of Batman and the billionaire Bruce Wayne.Max Power said:

There was a small hint of that in Batman Begins but it was never really fleshed out...he just all of a sudden became Bruce Wayne that everyone loved...it never showed the mental transition like I believe is being shown here.

I think it's smart for DC to take an "alternative" route compared to Marvel with their movies and go dark as hell. Joker had parts that were designed to make you uncomfortable which I liked. Seems like this is going to go down a similar path as well.
I could never get into The Avengers because I was tired of the same trope of an altruistic hero who's quirky and fun fighting a unanimously bad villain to save the world because the world is worth saving. That theme has its place for sure but it became very repetitive for me.
I want a series where the hero blurs the line between good and bad, the villain is off the rails insane on par with something from a dark horror movie, and the world (in this case Gotham) isn't necessarily worth saving but they fight for it anyway.

Looks great. But was hoping for a bit of a fantastical element, like what's in the Animated Series and Arkham games. Reeves shouldn't avoid the fantasy stuff. If he does he'll be redoing Nolan's "realistic" trilogy, just with more angst.
I think we're seeing the pendulum going the other way with more movies such as Brightburn, Suicide Squad and the series 'The Boys' on Amazon.PWestAg18 said:
