For my part, I think the only Spider-Man iteration that was absolutely unnecessary was the Garfield movies.
The Raimi movies had just wrapped up, and for the most part were a great series. (With the obvious exception of 3.)
This new version is pretty fresh/different, especially with him being in the MCU and the involvement of Stark.
That Garfield series is the odd man out. Didn't really do anything new/different, and literally nobody was asking for a reboot.
And it's a shame, because I would've been a hell of a lot more receptive to this new Spider-man if it wasn't for that middle series. Personally I think Tom Holland is killing it. (Though Tobey is still my favorite.)
