I finally finished it, and I guess I'm in the minority, because I found the last season to be a slog to get through. I think the years between season 5 and 6, followed by the mini-seasons with months between episodes, made it really hard for me to get into it. I also started watching the show on YouTube Red, and immediately loved it. I think the best seasons were on YouTube. Once it switched to Netflix, it was still good, but seemed a step off. I feel like the final season was really bad, though. Random dojos. Random villains. Long breaks between episodes. I still loved the series overall, though.
You want them to do an episode on each of the "random dogos/villians" across the world? That would extend the season even longer and make the viewers hate villains that the Miagi/Cobra dogos have never even met yet. That wouldn't make any sense. It makes more sense to do what they did and have them (and us) meet these new villians together.

No, they don't need to do an episode in each dojo. However, they could have found some sort of story that utilizes existing characters/villains.
They played out all the existing people locally. Trying to bleed that turnip would have been lame. What would they do? Have Silver build a nuke that they have to disarm?

It's clear that the show had to end with an international tournament. When you have an international tournament, you need new people/villians. That's just the nature of it. I think they did really well with it.

I get what you're saying, but I feel like it's because the writers put themselves into a box by constantly having the bad guys become the good guys. Let some of the kids be villains for more than a couple of episodes. Also, for the final fight you had some random sensei who just showed up this year. They had both Kreese and Silver. They could have had a Johnny vs Kreese fight. Or Danny vs. Silver. Instead they had Kreese and Silver blow each other up, and have the final fight with this random guy.

But Johnny's big thing has always been his confidence and he always knew he was the better fighter and could win. In the last fight against the sensei, he didn't have that. He was older, slower, and weaker. He lost his confidence and didn't believe he could win. If he fights Kreese or Silver, that element of the show/fight can't happen. In this ending, he is basically Daniel from the original movie. Underdog who wouldn't win 99% of the time, but wins this time based on emotion, intelligence, and patience. It brought everything full circle.

They already had Johnny/Danny fight Kreese/Silver in season's past. It just wasn't in a tournament. I think that story line was used up. To make that happen again would have been a bit of a letdown. I think it's clear that they had decided that Johnny was going to fight somebody for final redemption (which I did not predict and think was genius).

So who do you have him fight? Danny? Obviously they couldn't do that. And, like I said, Kreese/Silver has already been done. They needed to make a "final boss" who was more daunting than anybody prior. And that's who they made Feng Xiao into. A 3x sekai tekai world champion who kicked Johnny's ass in part 2. They spend a whole 15 episode season building him up into the ultimate baddie. That's way more than they built up Johnny as the bad guy in the original movie. I don't consider that random at all.

He didn't show up until they went to Barcelona, which is halfway through the season.

Look, it's fine if you liked it. I didn't really care. I personally got tired of the constant switching of dojos, random people showing up that I should care about, etc. I felt like the writing was lazy. However, that's just my opinion. I'm glad you enjoyed the season.

So 7-8 episodes. Still way more than the original movie.

They should have cast that Rayna Vallandingham chick for Sam. The current Sam was like casting 300lb Stephen Segal to walk fatly as a delta force operator.

It's like when I watch actors playing soccer. My kids played soccer an it's a running joke on how bad actors are. They should be at least somewhat athletic.

She actually looked more like Daniel and his wife.

Alas, when they cast her 8 years ago, they had no idea she would have weight issues.

I wish they could've brought back Aiesha. That was an odd situation.

I'm surprised none of these actors got into Karate/Martial Arts for the show. I mean, it's your career, wouldn't you want to try and become an expert in it? But I guess that's just Hollywood. For whatever reason, an actor will gain 200 pounds for a role, or learn how to do a foreign accent, but ask them spend a week learning how to throw a ball? F' that.

Here's the irony. The only black belt is Mary Mouser. She got it after getting cast.

After the big high school fight, she moved to a private school. Would have been good to see her make an appearance.

The previously mentioned Rayna Vallandingham is a 4th degree blackbelt. I agree with an earlier poster that mentioned she should have been made a main character way earlier in the series.

I'm no expert, but I think it's much harder to train yourself to look natural in karate than it is to gain muscle or fat for a role. I know it's that way for soccer. You can tell by the way people kick or trap the ball. I've been watching soccer since my kids started (20+ years ago), and I played football and basketball as a kid. But give me a soccer ball, and it will be obvious that my neurons solidified before I ever touched one. No matter what, I will look like an uncoordinated dork. Meanwhile, throw a soccer ball at my daughter who hasn't touched one in anger since she graduated college (5 years), and you would know instantly that she had played her whole life.

I would think that it's the same with Karate? That even without the flips and stuff, that Rayna Vallandingham girl OBVIOUSLY has done Karate her whole life. And no matter what, none of the main actors would ever catch her.

I will agree with you to a degree though. Just compare William Zabka in the original Karate kid to any primary kid actor in Cobra Kai. It's not even close. Though his moves were not "fancy" he did make it look like he had done it before. I suspect, that he practice the few moves that he did in the tournament a thousand times. So he could do those particular ones well, but not anything else.

Original Karate Kid, the only ones who knew martical artes previous were Rob Garrison (Bobby) and Darryl Vidal. (semi finalist who Johnny beat.)

They brought Vidal back to be the be the referree in the Seikei Takei.
He was also the body double for Myagi and he's the one who figured out how to do the crane kick.

Zabka was a wrestler, and later became a 2nd degree blackbelt.

Probably because people were always challenging him to a fight. (I made that up.)

Yeah, Zabka was a good wrestler in high school which meant he was already a much better athlete than the rest of the cast. Picking up karate was easy at his age

I don't remember Rob Garrison impressing me, but that Darryl Vidal guy was clearly legit. I remember thinking, "don't worry about Johnny, worry about that guy" when I was watching as a kid.

I'd guess that Karate in real-life is a different thing than fancy Karate that looks good on TV. I've been to my fair share of Taekwondo tournaments and it is very different than this show: everyone wearing head, foot, hand, and body padding, much quicker matches where points happen super fast, no acrobatics, very rare fancy moves that happen all the time in the show.
