Finished a couple days go.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, this show is FAR better than it has any right to be. It's just so unabashedly fun and entertaining it's ridiculous. Loved the finale, and it could've potentially served as a completely satisfying series finale if not for the final little scene right at the end.

Is it over-the-top at times? Yeah. Does it have a lot of cheesy/campy moments? Oh yeah.
But they do such a great job of making the characters redeemable and likeable. And in the end it leaves you feeling good. And it's nice to see a show can be edgy but still have "family" at the center of it.
They've knocked Johnny's character arc out of the park. And I love the way they incorporated Chozen for this past season.

Chozen is my favorite character in this show now.
No idea where they take this next season unless the focus is on the international karate tournament they gained entry to. Maybe a new dojo becomes their rival in that tournament. How does Cobra Kai dojo stay relevant next season?

Finally finished season 5, and I gotta say while the first 8 episodes felt like just more of the same but without the humor, episodes 9 and 10 knocked it out of the park: an emotional cheesy rollercoaster with jaw-dropping twists.
While Ralph Macchio and most of the kids still can't act, Johnny, Chozen, Silver, and even Stingray gave solid performances to make it all binge-worthwhile.

Just reading some S6 stuff online it doesn't seem like a S6 is a foregone conclusion.
I mean to other than Kreese escaping , which I guess is kinda big there was a lot of reconciliation and closure to storylines.
On the other hand, I'm guessing CK makes a struggling Netflix a lot of money so they'll figure something out.

Finally got around to finishing this season. Thought the first couple of episodes was just, "Meh," but then it kicked into high gear once they brought in the international tournament thing. I love how everyone acts like "All Valley Champion" is on the same level as "World Champion." I really hope they have another season, and the international tournament is on some remote island, and is like the tournament from "Enter the Dragon."
and it better have international teams led by Jean Claude Van Dammage, Steven Segal and Jaden Smith.

Is it concerning there's no official Season 6 announcement yet? You'd think it'd be a no-brainer but the next season is usually well into production at this point.
Is it possible it has a significant drop in viewership based on when it was released compared to season 4?
I mean it was #1 for weeks but I suppose that's possible.
I can't imagine them cancelling it. Even if it peaked with season 4, season 5 had like 270 million hours viewed in its first 5 weeks. Considering the seasons only have like a $20-$25 million budget, that's insane return on par with Stranger Things.
Honestly I'm not sure where they'll take the show from here. Each season had a pretty good cliffhanger or open ended storyline. Season 5 kind of wrapped everything up. Silver defeated and everyone except Kenny are friends. I guess Krease is still out there. But other than Hilary Swank they have kind of used up the cameos.
Love the show and hope it continues but there isn't a clear storyline moving forward.

Kreese and the Korean chick run Cobra Kai and try to get revenge on Miyagi Do. If you watch where young Kreese and Silver are sparring in Korea, you'll notice they have a thing. Kreese also has a vendetta. I bet he talks his way into the Sekai Taikai.

I was trying to do a little digging and see how the viewership was. All I saw was that it was down from season 4, but that was released on January 1 when people typically have more time to sit at home.
It was down about 10% in the first 5 weeks, but still a wildly popular series. The release timeframe could be a big reason for the disparity. It's easier to get into a series when you have time off to start it

It's just so incredibly satisfying when these characters get along. Every scene involving Daniel palling around with Johnny and/or Chozen makes me happy. It even works to a lesser extent with the kids. It was nice when Miguel and Robbie became friends. Heck, even though they're two of the worst characters on the show I enjoyed Sam and Tori working things out. Can't believe the actress that plays Sam is 26yo.
Johnny is the show though. I hope Zabka continues to find work when this is over.

It is amazing that Zabka is in a hit movie, effectively disappears for over 30 years, then comes back and carries a hit show for five seasons.

Just one of the Guys...Bully. He actually turned down Better off Dead for this role. He would've played the captain of the ski team and the dude Beth leaves him for. I'll get back to that.

in 2010, he was cast in Hot Tub Time Machine written by Josh Heald. Josh was a huge Karate Kid fan, and wrote that part specifically for Zabka. Zabka took it of course, but one the reasons was he always regretted not taking Better Off Dead and having ski scenes. Just one of the guys was filmed in Arizona during the summer time and it was hot.
Anyhooo...the internet starts talking about how Johnny was the real Karate Kid, and the kick was illegal, etc.
He then gets that part on How I Met Your Mother as himself as the real Karate Kid. Audiences love it.
Josh Heald and his buddies Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Shlossberg are looking for a prioject, and they're all huge Karate Kid fans. Josh reaches out to Zabka and pitches the idea. Zabka convinces Macchio to do it, and the rest is history.
Side fact...the actor that plays Chozan was in Better Off Dead playing the guy who learned to speak English listening to Howard Cosell.
Side fact 2: Ralph Macchio's son is named Daniel.

Also probably bring that girl back to be Chosens GF, and Johnny will attempt being a dad.

This is great news, btw. Not only that the next season is confirmed, but that they got the ending they wanted. It's what every showrunner can only hope for.
Are they going to try to work Hillary Swank in somehow? Who else haven't they brought back yet? Will Smith's kid doesn't count.
They better bring in Julie somehow. She needs to be a part of this too.
