The pacing of the film is pretty phenomenal, it slows down just enough to let you catch your breath then rockets back up to 90mph. I'm looking forward to breaking that down a bit more on subsequent viewings.

Have fun, you're gonna enjoy it.

Going to see it Saturday night, can't wait.

I watched 3,4, and 5 this week to get ready. I think they all have a case for #1, and as others have said, I can't argue with anyone's ranking of those three. My order is:

1. Rogue Nation - I just love Rebecca Ferguson
2. MI3 - Best villain and the most emotional film of the franchise. I'm not crazy about JJ's shaky cam and weird green/yellow filter that was common in the 2000s. I love the bridge scene.
3. Ghost Protocol - best set piece of the franchise, but it feels like it's going through the motions more than the other two, and the villain is pretty weak

So have the MI movies taken over from James Bond as the lead spy movies?

Would the MI franchise be in the spy genre or would it be in the action genre? Outside of the first film, I kind of feel like the franchise falls into the action genre,

True. I guess I still associate them with spy because of the first one (and the tv show), but they are mostly just action now days.

Ethan Hunt is my favorite spy. Bond lost me a while back.

This is an awesome "thread," re: how Monaghan was cast in M:I3...

(It's a series of text images.)

So if the Apostles stole Plutonium from Ethan at the beginning, why would John Lark need to kidnap Solomon Lane to trade him for Plutonium?

I *think* the White Widow's henchman stole it in the beginning, which is why the Apostle's were trying to kill her in Paris.

Also, I'm in full support of Cavill as Bond. I think he'd do a great job

Can you imagine living a life in which you play both Superman AND James Bond? Would be insane.

No sh*t. As if he needed any more help getting a woman in the sack. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel at that point.

Also, Vanessa Kirby is in this and she is...something else.

I thought that the WW didn't have the plutonium but was just a broker for whoever did

He came in 2nd to Craig when they rebooted back in the day. Producers felt he was too young at the time. Also, if you've seen him in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., he's so suave it's ridiculous.

There was the scene where Hunt had climbed up the rope to the helicopter and was struggling to get over to the skids.

Watching that made my heart race and muscles tense up. Knowing that that was really Cruise and he was really hanging from a helicopter made that scene soooooo intense.

That man is seriously crazy.

The whole final 20 minutes or so was intense as hell. I thought Benji was a goner.

This is SOMEHOW one of the best action andddd spy movies I have ever seen.

Yes, the set pieces and locations are great. We knew that. What I did not expect was this tight of a story, twists and turns and it wasnt really... gotchas. The story itself was the adventure... which made the action that much better.

Oh...and see it in true IMAX if you can... the final 20 minutes rival Dunkirk aerial sequences. How the hell did they let him fly that helicopter.
Aggies76

And they let him take that fall down to the payload. How is that possible?

To the spoiler police, this was in a trailer or a post-production piece, but I'm tagging it as a spoiler anyway.

Thought we were using spoiler tags through the weekend, per usual, but I guess not. I'm out.

I honestly don't even know what the best action sequence was.

The bathroom fight
The HALO jump
The chase in Paris
The helicopter chase

It's just sick. They really outdid themselves on this one.

Helicopter

The chase in Paris was out of this world. Made the one from Bourne Identity (one of my favorite action sequences) look like it was done on Go-Karts.

I'll do it with this one.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
I saw it before all of y'all did so not the point, when have we not used used spoiler tags for at least opening weekend for big films?
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There are those of us who enjoy reading everyone's reactions on opening weekend without the fear of being spoiled. What else would spoiler tags be used for if not this? We've all literally had this conversation dozens of times and I and many others seem to have thought that most people agreed to use spoiler tags opening weekend. But I'm so sick of having this conversation, and so sick of those who race out Thursday/Friday night to see it, then have zero regard for anyone else when posting, that I'm giving up. I guess from here on out, for big movies, there will literally be no way to read TexAgs' reactions without seeing the movie itself first.

Thanks for the consideration, guys. Much appreciated.
Brian Earl Spilner
How long do you want to ignore this user?
And yet you've called out posters many times, saying you won't avoid posting spoiler-y things even before the movie is out, because the board shouldn't have to cater to their needs.

It's a two way street. If you're not going to do that for others then you don't hace much room to get upset when people slip up. Plus you should probably set that guideline up more clearly in the OP and a post, as I do on the SW thread.
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
What's being posted here are blatant spoilers. What I've refused to refrain from posting in the past are talking points from official, publicly released trailers, images, and loglines. There's a big difference. But even on stuff like that, I agreed to meet in the middle and use spoiler tags. You're telling me you guys literally can't even do that? I ask again, why did TexAgs even give us that feature if not for this exact scenario?
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It seriously blows my mind that on opening weekend you guys are arguing not to do something so simple as adding basic code to a few sentences here and there. No one's asking you not to discuss. Just that you keep certain parts of the discussion redacted for three freaking days.
