Anyone notice the "money shot" from the first trailer wasn't in the movie? (Ethan about to get into a head on collision with a truck.)

Yes I noticed that. Also, some of Luther's dialog from the trailer was missing.Brian Earl Spilner said:

Rewatching the series, I noticed something about Rogue NationJohn Matrix said:
Saw it last night. This is as tightly constructed, thrilling, and well-made as everyone is saying. What really got me though is they attempted to develop Ethan Hunt's character a little, which was missing from the previous films. In a way, this is The Winter Soldier of the Mission Impossible seriesan examination of a character through their moral fortitude in a corrupt world. That and the set pieces are just thrilling, building on one other in an organic way.
That being said, I do think people need to tap the breaks a little on comparing it to Fury Road or any other classic. It's good, really good, often great, but it's a little too locked into formula to really reach those heights. Regardless, it's probably the new best in the series.
I can give you "not a thinking movie" to a certain extent because it wasn't an overly intellectual plot, but that's about it.Mr. AGSPRT04 said:
I'll be chastised as I'm clearly in the minority but I'll go ahead and say it: I thought it was lame.
Too long. Too long winded on cheap dialogue. Not a thinking movie at all (like the original was). Formulaic fighting scenes. Attempts at suspense flopped. Count down sequence that was 2-3x as long as the timer. Giant plot holes. Ving Rhames looking rougghhh...

Not sure I would go that far but it's definitely on Mount Rushmore.
If you're just talking the big, booming explosions and death-defying stunts, sure. It was a very good action film. But I'll agree that films like The Matrix, Die Hard, The Dark Knight, Terminator 2, Predator, Lethal Weapon, and the first M:I are better. In a way, this harkens back to many of those films. Not trying to belittle it, I loved it, but I'm not quite sure it's on that pantheon.TCTTS said:AliasMan02 said:TCTTS said:

It's hard to define exactly what I mean. I think something like The Dark Knight or The Matrix is a better movie overall, and both feature plenty of amazing action, but this was, hands down, the best string of action sequences in a single movie, from start to finish, that I have ever seen. So does that make it the "greatest action movie of all time," even though The Dark Knight and The Matrix are probably better "action" movies overall? Yet one is technically a superhero movie and the other sci-fi. Eliminating those two genres or anything similar (i.e. anything outside the realm of "grounded" - aka "pure action" and nothing superhero, sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, fantasy, etc.), I don't see what else even comes close to this?
All I know is that there is absolutely no way anyone can name a single movie that has that many monumental action scenes, especially that many practical action scenes, where the star is literally risking his life scene in and scene out. It's utterly unparalleled, I think it'll be years before anyone tops it, and if/when they do, it'll probably just be the next Mission: Impossible movie.
That was staggeringly, jaw-droppingly good.

$140M+ worldwide opening, which beats out GP's $130M as the highest franchise opening.
Based on the other movies, and the surely great word of mouth, this should be the first MI movie to break $700M.
Somehow these movies have never broken out in the same way the F&F movies have, but hopefully this one has strong legs.

Why?

It seems like Ferguson is a new regular going forward.
I had just re-watched the first mission impossible, so when I heard her talking about Max, I wondered the same thing. Very cool.johncAG said:
This is a potential spoiler but a question I have:
So the White Widow is totally the daughter of Max from Mission Impossible right?
Yep. But my thoughts on that is that she'll be free to join IMF.Quote:
I like it! But she is now free to leave and retire now that Lane is captured
