Also, it's crazy how much is edited out of certain shots (especially that one from behind) in terms of wires and what not.

That's a good question. I still don't quite understand.

I just saw a clip of the cast on the Graham Norton show. They broke down footage from a few different angles, and talked about how it was supposed to go.
He's referring to the same clip, the one I posted above. Even watching it, it's kind of confusing as to how it was supposed to work. If not his ankle, it looked like Cruise was going hurt something either way. It's a super rough stunt.

So what happened to Jeremy Renner? Wasn't he in the 4th one to basically replace Cruise eventually? Then they were like, "nah, Tom don't age and is still the man so we'll just keep doing this until he's a senior citizen"
Basically, yeah. Word is that Cruise was likely going to be done after Ghost Protocol and that they were essentially grooming Renner to take over. But then I'm assuming Cruise got the bug again during production, and yeah, he and everyone else basically realized he could do this for years to come.

Right there with you. Though, a friend of mine was on set for a day in London last year and said she chain smokes like it's going out of style. Bit of a turn off, but whatever. She's got this mid-century movie star quality mixed with a modern day femme fetale action thing and it's incredibly sexy.

Sounds like he might be. In that clip above, Cruise mentions "chasing Henry Cavill's character" when he broke his ankle.
Haven't heard that but it wouldn't surprise me.

The cinematography in this looks amazing. Shot by the same guy who did Ex Machina and it shows. Also, I'm getting the feeling more and more that Henry Cavill just might steal the show...
