Expectations of what? Expectations of a quality movie with depth of character and a plot that makes sense? Yea...I dislike ****ty movies I had high expectations of.
But if you're talking about the basic tone or direction of a movie? That's not what this is. Lots of movies subvert expectations from pre-conceived notions but that doesn't mean I dislike those (10 Cloverfield Lane, Get Out, Cabin in the Woods were some of my favorites).
And as far as sequels; Terminator 2 was a great follow up sequel that turned previous villains into Heroes and expanded the scope and mythology without sacrificing character motivation or plot.
Mad Max Fury Road was a fantastic "soft-reboot." It was a simple and concise plot but brought its own caharacter to the audience.
So Yea, it's hard to make a quality movie sequel. It's even harder to follow up a unique cinematic experience like JP1 (or T1 or Mad Max) was...but that doesn't mean JW gets a pass. It had a chance to continue the greatness of JP, but instead they opted for the cookie cutter product placement, cgi bonanza that didn't even try to recapture the soul of JP. And what's even more infuriating is that it worked. It crushed at the box office and re-affirmed to those asshat studio execs that JW2 should be more of the same.
So maybe I'm wrong.
Oh and F Trevorrow. He thinks JW2 is "kind of a horror suspense?" Id say the suspense is out the window with that latest trailer.
