Although I think DC may try and roll out a surprise and have it turn out he's the new Green Lantern somehow.

As a side note, I found the dark knight returns by Frank Miller to be a much better Batman vs. Superman telling. No surprise, I guess, "the book was better".

Interesting. Like others have said, I actually enjoyed her in the movie. Knowing very little about the character before the movie, I kind of thought she was a not very powerful character. But she was pretty impressive against doomsday.

It makes sense if you look at it from DC's perspective.

So let's get this straight. Germans invent rocketry in 1943 (rl fact), Chris pine takes a prop plane into space in 1914 lands on a distant planet filled with women stuck in the bronze age. He convinces a princess to use her magic portal to transfer him back because the world is in a war with evil. They go back she fights villain but witnesses the unglorious side of war thanks to modern technology and she "gives up on man" for a hundred years.

Until space aliens descend and her spidey sense tells her she is needed....so she tries to hack lexs computer to erase an image so she isn't bothered anymore (when she can leave earth at her convenience).

Geez.

Knowing nothing of the story, the solo WW film strikes me as a Thor / Cap 1 mix. Omnipotent gods from another world(ish), love story with a mortal that will likely end in tragedy as the story progresses nearly a century, World War backdrop, origin filler before the big team-up movie.

Now, Thor and Cap1 were somewhat unique for their time and genre, in some ways, so we'll see if WW can carve its own niche as well.

This summary with my review on pg12, do you see how everything is just so disjointed?

Is this a serious post? Themyscira is an island hidden by Greek God magic from Zeus and Hera. The Amazons have been living in isolation on Earth for thousands of years.

Her weapons have all been made by the Greek God Hephaestus, it's why her shield, bracelets, and sword are indestructible.

I imagine that since it's WWI, Ares will probably feature pretty heavily in the story, especially since Wonder Woman is the daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta, the Queen of the Amazons.

Thanks for the clarification on where WW is from, I guess. It would be far better to have them on a different dimensional plane you get to with magic than "some island". Kinda makes their absence from the bronze age forward kinda suspicious.

And that's really the problem between DC and marvel. The justice League took 7 brands of comics and threw me together, why there are multiple new York City type places in DC comics.

Marvel put all their characters in a world like ours, even thor just lived in the heavens above our rl earth. It was easier cohesion. It also lent to crossover comics where Peter parker is in actual new york and can fight with/against iron man. Filling content where characters team together consistently makes for more cohesion.

OK, so here's what I thought about it:

I thought is was pretty good, but I'm not a major fanboy. I love Batman and Superman, and I tend to leave my brain at home for comic book movies.

I said it earlier, but I hate that the commercials gave away so much. There was no geeking out about Wonder Woman because we saw it all in the trailers.

"Dead" Superman at the end is a non-starter. Everyone knows Superman is part of the Justice League, and even IF I didn't know that was coming out, I wouldn't buy a dead Superman.

Also, whoever said that Clark Kent needs to go away got their wish. He was reported killed in the battle, and was buried in his hometown. No WAY he comes back from that.

Affleck was awesome. Gal Godot was pretty great too. And I never had a problem with Cavill as Superman.

There was a lot going on, but I can't see how they'd leave anything out. Not and get where they wanted to go in the end.

A lot of these comments make me glad I never watched the trailers after the initial teaser.

It's not some island. Zeus and Hera specifically hid it from the normal world (in addition to making them immortal) after the entire Amazon population was literally raped by Heracles and his men. No one can reach it from the normal world just as no one can leave it without the Gods approval. Trevor reaching it was by pure accident (since the gods are not infallible). Essentially it is in its own pocket dimension, it's just one that was created by magic.

Wonder Woman's past is seeped in Greek mythology. Just about everything about her character is related to it.

I guess for the first time I noticed that Metropolis, which I thought were just two different ways to say New York but talking about the same place) actually IS talking about NYC, but Gotham is one area and Metropolis is another area (one is Long Island and one is Brooklyn or something like that).

Even in the comic there is no consistency to that, though. Locations and demarcations vary wildly. To have Gotham and Metropolis essentially be sister cities is a pretty normal take. I'd wager there is no New York in the DCU.

In typing all of that, you must surely realize the inherent flaws in trying to dump all of that on a movie audience. This is why they need to dial it back. Why they won't, I just don't understand.

Look at Thor. Not the favorite movies in the MCU, but look at how they handled gods living in Marvel's movie world. They scienced it up. They hired astrophysicists as consultants to work out the World Tree and Dark Matter and wormholes. They dialed back Thor's power level by an incredible degree and removed the largest "hocus pocus" elements of the character entirely. Is there any element of Thor's movie mythology that is a total WTF, unexplained hand-wave in his movies? They don't always go into deep conversation about the physics of it, but they provide enough context for the moviegoer to "get it."

You should never have to have a background in the comics to understand what the hell is happening on screen. That includes all the stuff you just mentioned about WW. It includes the totally unnecessary Flash time travel bit in the middle of BvS. It includes Batman dreaming about a villain that 90% of the audience has no idea about, with zero explanation or insight provided.

I thought he said "Lois is the key", as in Lois is the key to getting to Superman.

According to Kevin Smith, the future we saw was from the "Injustice" storyline where Superman lays wrath onto humanity because Lois is killed. So Flash was indeed telling Batman to protect Lois to avoid "evil Superman", which confirms Bruce's fears of Superman in the present.

Gotham is a real life nickname for NYC, iirc its back from New Amsterdam days.

Metropolis has always been like NYC. From the daily planet to be like the NYTimes, to it being the main city/economy in the US etc.

Now this film put them across the bay, like they were two burrows within NYC. But the way Fishburn talked about it, Gotham = Detroit, run down shtthole, Metro=Chicago (they even had Illinois license plates in the MoS/Batman scene in Metropolis.)

I got more of a San Fran/ Oakland vibe. But even then, Fishburn being so adamant about ignoring Gotham was odd.
