worst of the franchise. Barely a 2/5 in my book.

For starters, the first 30 minutes of the movie sets up the older brother as a complete scumbag. I would have actually cheered if he'd been eaten. He had NO redeeming qualities whatsoever through the entire movie. First he blows off his doting girlfriend like a total ******, then spends every second he's in the park leering at girls and totally ignoring his brother. He has a single encouraging line he says to his brother, ONE. The rest of the time he's a complete tool.

Next, the "love story" between Pratt and BDH was pointless. Completely and totally pointless. It didn't impact a single thing in the entire movie. None of their decisions, none of their action, nothing was influenced by those "feelings." Utterly and completely pointless. It would have been far more effective for them to explore their professional relationship, and how they feel about each other's competence.

Third, the whole divorce nonsense was also unnecessary and added nothing at all to the film. It would have been equally as effective if the parents had just send their kids on vacation.

Finally, the massive bloodshed doesn't seem to affect ANYBODY. Nobody blinks when somebody dies, even people that they are ostensibly close to.

The dinosaurs were great, the kills were great, most of the dialogue was great. But that is it. The secondary plots and "character development" were a complete and total mess. If this team had made Mad Max: Fury Road then Hardy and Theron would have gotten married in the end, Nux would have spent 2 hours humping the wives' legs, and Immortan Joe would have been shot by one of the canyon raiders.

Total fail.

this movie would have been many times better without the plot and character development they tried to shoehorn into it. none of it was even remotely necessary.

I disagree. The character development saved the damn movie.

what character development? the nonsensical love story, the lecherous teenager, or the woman who's demonized for being a cold career-minded woman until she grows a heart and realizes that she just can't live without a man and children in her life?

Hah, you people are ridiculous.

Pratt's character was likable and a badass, and that's really all we needed.

I agree 100%. Pratt was great, and that IS all we really needed. What we didn't need was any of that other malarky.

You have to put JW over LW for the gymnastics scene alone. Although yes, the trailer/double T-Rex scene was pretty damn cool.

the gymnastic scene was no worse than finding a 20 year old jeep and returning it to completely operational status in just a few minutes while a giant genetically altered dinosaur is looking for you

There are ridiculous things about the movie, and the jeep thing is one of them, but at least don't make things up. He just replaced the battery. He didn't rebuild the engine or anything.

fine, then let's talk about how insane it is to think they could just grab a 20 year old battery that was lying around throw it into a 20 year old jeep, and off they go into the jungle

Yep. Definitely a stretch, but at this point in the story they needed to get back to the resort, and that was a chance to have big brother look out for little brother. Took an easy way out, for sure.

But again, how does that compare to the hacker pre-teen familiar with facility operations software? It's hardly a crime as far as action/adventure movies go.

We could talk about that, but it wouldn't have anything to do with JW as the kid took the battery out of the 4wheel-drive cart that was wrecked in front of the bldg. It was a brand new vehicle, so I doubt it had a 20 yr old battery in it.

right, and hardly the film's biggest fault, I listed those earlier. I don't really care how they got the jeep running or how nonsensical it was. My point was just that it was no more stupid than anything in any of the other movies.

I was a little torn here. I walked in very giddy and left somewhat satisfied. Maybe it's the nostalgic factor playing in- but I remember being genuinely terrified in Jurassic Park. It was darker, much more scary. This had a very disney feel to it. Jurassic Park is James Bond Casino Royale, Dark Knight Batman. Jurassic World felt very James Bond Die Another Day, Batman Forever- ya feel me?

I know I'm in the strong minority here- but I don't like Chris Pratt. He doesn't feel very believable to me- I know- an unpopular opinion.

DBH felt forced to me, and then in a matter of hours she's leading their T-rex with a flair. I did like the references to JP from Jack Johnson. He REALLY made the movie for me. Full Metal Jacket dude was WAY too much for me.

Favorite cameo was Jimmy Buffett- anybody else see him?

Somewhere between 30 Days's hardcore feminism which is aghast that a teenage male might be horny and Van Zandt's antipathy for all movies, this thread took a turn for the awesome.

what did the older brother acting like a horny letch add to the movie? The only thing it accomplished is making him look like a ****** who treated his brother like ****. It's not feminist to expect more than one-dimensional stereotypes in a movie. None of the characters in the movie, except maybe Pratt's, had any depth at all. They were nothing but paper thin stereotypes.

If the kid had just ooed and awed at the attractions, and showed the slighted bit of concern for his brother, he would have been just fine. But as it was he was nothing more than a caricature of a hormone addled kid.

It's not even like they used this character flaw to change any decisions. Did his leering at females put them in any danger? no. Was there any moment where he had to chose between saving a girl or his brother where his previous behavior might make you question what he might do? no.

It was an absolutely pointless bit of "character development" that deadended into nowhere.

This movie was filled with that kind of thing though.

What did the "love story" between Pratt and BDH impact? nothing. What did the parent's divorce impact? Nothing. What did Pratt's backstory as a navy veteran (of indeterminant MOS or period of service) impact? NOTHING.

They were all just pointless time fillers thrown in to give the illusion of depth. I personally find that kind of "character development" to be garbage.

This is the rare case of when I'm glad the trailers gave away as much as they did. I thought the creation of the I-Rex amd training and hunting with the raptors sounded so dumb, I lowered my expectations a ton and thought the movie was flawed but fun.

i agree with most things the haters say but still enjoyed the movie. But then, I did crowd fund Sharknado 2, so what do I know.
VanZandt92

Umm. I sort of liked the characters and the female got sexier as the movie went along. That type of character development.

I really feel like you must not have paid attention to the movie. Your complaints seem very arbitrary.

The leering of the older brother was part of the larger theme of distraction of the public. It recurred all over. The fact that patrons weren't wowed by dinosaurs anymore was the basis for the movie.

The love story was pretty generic. Owen's naval background was obviously working with dolphins, as has been discussed, but I understand why they didn't get into it, as it opens up a bunch of questions that would require more screen time to answer but ultimately not really add value. The divorce was clumsy but pretty much just a reason for the kids to be shipped off to Aunt Claire.

There's always a reason to complain about something if you look for it. And again, none of these things are really any different than in JP.
