Man, when the original theme swelled when the kid opened the shades, I got chills.
I'm a sucker for that kinda stuff.

Hillcountry, the original movie wasnt that great. You're remembering it wrong. It was probably fun because you were of the right age and disposition and it was a hell of a popcorn flick. It was a good roller coaster ride, nothing more.

Over the last 20 years I tried like 4 times to sit through the original and never made it. Finally last week I made it all the way through and now understand why I couldn't make it before. It starts out with great possibility - the wide ranging shots of a great island, the ethical and biological angles, the technology etc,...and by about 40 minutes it devolves into nothing more than another Friday the 13th sequel with dinosaurs. Great special effects for the time and an OK movie I guess, but the fascination with and ratings for the movie boggle me.
quote:We still had that feeling in LW and JP3 with the Stegos and when they were flying over the island (though to a lesser extent.) I was really hoping for an amazing dino reveal... Some classic dino - Stego, Trike, Brachiosaur - in a non threatening environment. I still get butterflies when seeing the Brachio scene with the Jeep on JP1. I just... I'm an old dino nerd. Until 6th grade, I thought I was going to be a paleontologist and actually read some of the paleontology course works books (Bakker, etc) when I was in 5th grade. I love taking people to the HMNS because I can be a tour guide without reading the info on the dinos. Honestly, the anky scene, when they first rolled into them slightly had that feel. So yes, self confessed dino nut and I may be a bit biased by that but I think there very easily could have been something cool. Even just something as simple as the monorail coming through a herd of herbivores could have been awesome.
Def agree with that. Never reached those heights but then, what movie does?
quote:I agree with TCTTS. One thing that I think is critical for a story is to only require one true suspension of disbelief. In JP's case, you only needed to be able to believe that it were possible to clone dinosaurs and they did a great job explaining why. Everything else in the movie really did play off of that one thing and it worked well. It's also why I think TLW would have been 10x the movie if it didn't have the San Diego scenes. Make the final TRex showdown on the item a bit better and end the movie there. Remove the kid and the movie really would work so much better. JP3 is just a mess, but a fun one.quote:quote:This.

Please tell me you two aren't serious.

In all honesty, after seeing these numbers... Star Wars does $250+ opening weekend domestic. $550+ world wide. I'm not even kidding. It's going to be unlike anything we've ever seen.

A lot will depend on the reviews. The movie will make money regardless, but the great earners get pushed over the top by really good reviews that push more discerning eyes to movies like this.
For JW, Pratt has become a huge draw. He's a wholesome, (apparently) Christian, right-wing, gun crazy, no nonsense guy who has stated in many interviews that he's only doing this until he can provide the life he wants for his kid(s). That resonates deeply with moviegoers in the same way that American Sniper did. There aren't a lot of those kind of people in the business and even fewer who are willing to come out and own it. I know plenty of people who don't care for JP at all, but were still going to see this, because of Pratt.

I don't think many people really give a **** about him being "christian, right wing, gun loving" or whatever bull**** you want to attach to him.
He seems like fun, easy going dude, and it comes across in his acting.

I've seen no fewer than 6 "shares" on Facebook today of the story about him being a Christian.
