I think all three Transformers are crap.

Star Wars, Mad Max (fury road), Lord of the Rings, and JP...all those movies asked the viewer to suspend belief; to accept impossible worlds....and they were great.
There's creative fiction and there's lazy writing. To me, it's more jarring to my viewing experience (as in, makes me acutely aware this is a film) to see 2 kids fix a rusted 20 yr old jeep with no tools than it is to see a 50 ft genetically modified dinosaur rip off the roof of a building.
Jurrasic World already laid out the existence of a world where dinosaurs exist, but how in the **** does this world include a woman who can literally run in the jungle from dinosaurs in 5 inch heels? The movie was filled with poor character development and lazy film tropes.
quote:No, my complaints are the scripted story and character development. I perfectly understand that cell reception is faulty in the real world, but to use it as a dramatic device in movies is overdone and lazy. The busted jeep was an excuse to show the viewers a bunch of old JP memorabilia. It's like they built the set first, and then figured out how to incorporate it into the story later. The fact that they we're all supposed to accept that a couple kids could get a rusted out jeep to work 20 years later, is just a side bonus of terribleness. (And do car batteries really hold their charge for that long? And what about tire pressure? or ignition switches?...)
The issue is that your complaints are based on technical nuances not plot or character development
Super dinosaurs is able to break strong glass? That's entirely plausible considering that it's a fictional dinosaur
No cell phone reception in gyorspheres? I working around heavy equipment on a daily basis, and it would be less realistic if they could get cell phone reception
Velociraptor thrown against building is knocked out but not killed? Makes sense
A 20 year old jeep is functional if you change the battery? Oil might be thick, but it could probably drive 5 miles back to the visitor center
As far as character development, can you list a better character arc in a summer blockbuster than BDH going from control freak to letting a freaking Trex loose?
What abouot older brother going from a poon hound to promising his brother he would never leave him?
quote:This tells me all I need to know about your comprehension of film analysis.
I hope you're joking about there being character arcs.

Would you like to discuss thematics of the film, how it relates to each characters motivation, drives the narrative, and the which characters are static or dynamic?
quote:The thematics of this film were very strong.
Please tell me you aren't trying to really dig in on the "the story and character development were top notch!" stance.

The theme is "control vs relationship", as discussed in initial conversation between BDH and Pratt when he's fixing his motorcycle.
Pratt builds a relationship and deserves respect by establishing himself as the alpha.
D'Onotrio wants to total control over dinosaurs by giving them military commands, which obviously backfires.
Even the I-Rex's motivation is determining "how it relates to other dinosaurs" and discovering that it is the apex predator.
BDH begins as a number oriented manager viewing dinosaurs as "assets", however having her pet the dying brontosaurus is a critical moment in the film as it sinks in that these are living animals. She changes into someone who respects others, both dinosaurs as well as her nephews (whose age she couldn't remember).
If you were able to suspend disbelief about minute technical details, you would see the bigger picture.
