I stand by all my criticisms, but don't worry, I won't derail the thread with them. I'm glad everyone else seemed to like it, even if I don't share the sentiment. Question: has anyone noticed or commented on the many similarities between this story and Chappie?

The original Jurassic Park was my first PG-13 movie I saw in theaters. I was 10 and remember sitting in the theater with my family and being nervous about how scary it was going to be. I love the original JP.

Minor spoilers:
For all the people saying "meh" or that they didn't like it, I think you're off base. My entire group though it was awesome. It was the right kind of funny, it was over the top, Pratt was great, the dinos were awesome (I loved ankylosaurus being thrown in), I loved the park details of the rides, stores, layout etc and I loved loved loved that T rex saved the day. It was great.

My theater clapped at the end. And I've heard from friends elsewhere in town and back home in SA that the same happened.

People clapped in my theater too. I was baffled by that. As mentioned, I did not like this movie at all, & I really thought it was poorly done from start to finish. The characters were so poorly written, and the human element so forced, cliche, and undeveloped, it made me hate it. But clearly people seem to like it.

Applause in our theater at Alamo Drafthouse in Richardson too. I was glad to hear everyone else apparently liked it as much as the wife and I did.

$82 million on Friday. Biggest Friday of all time.

That's stretching the spin pretty far to claim biggest opening Friday. "Hey, if you ignore all the late night showing of Potter and Avengers, which people rushed to see as early as possible, then it's the biggest 'pure' Friday evahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!"

Whatever.

Whatever.

why is it a stretch?

they eliminated the thrusday late showings for all of those movies for comparison.

JW also had Thrusday showings.

they are not saying it was the biggest opening ever...since those are usually included. Simply saying it was the biggest Friday ever....thats a true statement. And it may have the biggest opening weekend ever...we'll see.

Fridays:
JW = 64.1
Avengers 2 = 62
Avengers = 57
Furious 7 = 52

just because you don't like it or want it to succeed does not making soemthing untrue.

Seems like maybe a different audience than Avengers fanboy type and Furius 7 (I don't know what they type is since I have nmot seen any of them since the first one). So they went to Friday showings instead. Probably more family oriented (although it's violent for young kids)....I know we went with the whole family.

it's not moving the goalposts...they haven't redefined what friday is....if anything the studios trying to claim inflated Fridays by including Thursday night looks like the exaggeration to me.
Sure they're redefining it. Universal themselves were including late night Thursday when they were screaming about how big the Fast 7 3 day was. That was weeks ago, it's not like they always exclude the late night on some island by themselves. That's the very definition of moving the goalposts.

No clapping in my theater at the end, but a lot of laughing during the final twenty minutes. It just got kind of ridiculous, even for JP. This was basically San Andreas, but with dinosaurs. No substance at all. The CGI didn't help. Maybe they need to bring Goldblum back #sarcasm. I'd liked to have seen a more in depth look at the park, layout, character background, better child actors, how the park got to be successful and green lit despite the events in JP, how Pratt's character went from the Navy to training Raptors, etc. There was so little depth to the film.

The wife and I just got home and we both really liked it. Yeah it was a little ridiculous sometimes and yeah I knew what was going to happen next. Guess what? Who cares. It brought me back to my childhood when I watched JP in theaters as a kid. It was cool to see young kids excited about it and telling there parents how much they liked it as we walked out. This movie brings in all ages, from 6 to 86 (saw a comfort keeper worker who brought an older gentleman, pretty cool actually) Anyways, everyone has there own opinion and I personally really enjoyed it.

Being more of a fan of the books than the movies, I still have to admit that some 22 years later, seeing the gates to the park swing open again was still a great sight....

I honestly don't know what the people trashing this movie were expecting other than great popcorn fun... Nothing from Jurassic Parks franchise screams awards (except maybe for effects in the original)........

That being said... Even though we all know the almighty dollar speaks and what it's saying is MORE JURASSIC PARK, please let the series die after this.... That was a great way to wrap it up.....

If you have to continue on, reboot the franchise and follow the books.

Wow. I loved it! So much fun. I'm gonna go bullet points for thoughts, Spoilers***

-gyrosphere secne was badass. Very intense
- Speilburg must hate his assistants they way that British girl got done
-when they first revieled the I-Rex was so badass, blending into the trees, and the guy yelling Camflouge! Didn't see that coming but was floored
- "Can we stay with you? We were talking to Owen! "
- I had to laugh when Blue raptor came in and saved the day, that was so cheesy
-anyone notice the dad save his two margaritas when they pterodactyls attacked. They probably were $12 bucks and some flying Dino's aren't gonna ruin his buzz
From hearing what yall thought prior it was not as bad as yall made it out to be. I really enjoyed it and was right up there with the first one. The Dino's looked awesome, suspense was there, light comedy, romance, redemption. All good

Really enjoyed it. I might have enjoyed it more than the first. Part of that was that I liked the main characters in this one more than the first. I thought Jeff goldblum, sam neil, laura dern, and their characters all sucked. Found Pratt to bring a better main character for this type of movie. Jake johnson's character was good too (although not main).

But yes, there were a number of silly elements to the plot, which I completely expected.

For those asking about taking kids to it, I'd just use the previous movies as a barometer. As compared to the first, the quantity of violence and suspense is more, but I don't think the level of how graphic it is was much different. On language, there were a couple of sh**s and maybe 3 SOB's, if I recall.

My 8 year old daughter watched the first one for the first time within the past month, loved it, then watched the next 2. So I figured I'd take her to this one. Her 8 year old review gave it a 10 out of 10 and she says it was her favorite of the 4.

Regardless, did anyone else think the helicopter pilot/CEO looks a little like Summy?

Saw it last night amongst hundreds of high schoolers. We enjoyed it quite a bit. Liked all the references to the original, how they fast-forwarded to this new park, pratt was great, and personally I loved the CGI. Its amazing how far its come since the first film/benchmark.

Hated the red head. Wish she would have been arrested or eaten. Felt sorry for the Brit chick. The kids didn't annoy me surprisingly. Loved all the theme park attractions-seemed to be a joke all by itself and well done. And that water show dinosaur was just bad ass. BTW, I can't imagine a place like that not just printing money.

There will definitely be a sequel since the doctor disappeared. Great popcorn flick.

Bonus, I almost saw a cop get run over in the parking lot directing traffic. He fortunately got the drivers attention as contact was made and then proceeded to pound the guys window until he could have a little chat with him. Dumbass kid wasn't paying attention.

At the risk of being called a fanboy, I just don't get those of you that hated it. This is exactly what you would expect out of a JP movie.

A couple of cheesy moments but they're more than outweighed by the cool ****.

Agreed. Really want to know how/why a few people hated it. I had no idea what to expect, minus the trailers which showed a little to much IMO. Not sure what made it so bad for some of yall

Yeah not sure I would take my daughter if she was 3 (she is almost 2). It's a great kid movie, as I stated earlier there was a ton of kids (7 years +)in our theater, which was actually pretty cool to see IMO, cuz I was that kid in 93. You should see it first and use your own judgement.

I've said a little of this, but in short, I hated it because the writing was awful, the characters lacked depth moreso than any other movie I can ever remember seeing, they just haphazardly threw together little scenes that went absolutely nowhere in regards to explaining why we should care about these people, they stacked one bad movie cliche right on top of another, over and over and over, and the CGI was just lame, IMO.

I almost fell asleep several times, and the only thing that kept me from walking out is the fact that I have never walked out on a single movie in my life. For a movie like that to work, you have to at least somewhat care for the characters in danger (the kids and the lady in white), but in this movie those characters were so bad, so shallow, and so annoying, I just wanted them to die.
phatpat21
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'll agree the girl in white wasn't that great but the kids weren't that bad IMO. I knew the movie wasn't to bad because my wife wasn't falling asleep and laughed a couple of times. My wife is NOT a movie person like I am, infact most of the time we watch a movie she falls asleep and I watch it alone (could be because we have a almost 2 year old and a 4 month old) but the fact she even admitted after it was over it wasn't that bad made me smile. Like I said, movies are mostly about opinions. Some people love movies that people hate and that same movie you love other will hate. Thats what makes it fun

To all the snobs: wtf did you expect to see from a movie about Dinosaurs?

I expected to be entertained. I was. We were (my family that went)! And even more so; WE WERE, the theater that: gasped at the action, laughed at the jokes, applauded at the end and then waited for a post credit scene.

So you say all of that... but you liked the original JP? Be consistent at least. JP had all of the problems that you just enumerated.
