Oh ok, I thought the delay had to do with a full blown campaign. So pretty much all of the buzz from today from the big sites came from the email you sent out?

A very big congrats to TCTTS. I told him earlier, that I think most everyone on this board feels like a part of this, and I think that's very cool. We'll all continue to do our part and help make this thing a huge success.

You guys are absolutely a huge part of this, and probably the main reason I finally decided to pull the trigger. I cannot thank everyone enough for the insane amount of support (and patience) you've given not only the site, but me as well. At the risk of getting super cheesy/sentimental, this board has been one of my absolute favorite places on the web over the past 10 years or so, and I can't wait for that continue, especially with the site now being something we can all share and stake claim to going forward.

Basically, yeah. In addition to all my industry contacts, I sent out a professional-looking announcement email to like 100 or so writers/bloggers/critics from my TPL address. But after an hour or so, nothing was really happening. No responses, no mentions, nothing. I think some of the emails ended up going to spam because even a few of the ones I had sent to friends/family did the same.

So I remembered this one critic on Twitter who, like a month ago, was complaining that there was no good release resource online. On a whim, I then sent him a quick, informal email from my personal account basically saying I saw his tweet last month and to give this site shot. Not three minutes later he emailed me back absolutely freaking out. He then emailed it to a bunch of people, and emailed me back asking me if I lived in NYC (where he's located), because everyone he had emailed it to wanted to buy me a beer. Next thing I know he tweeted the link to his 23K+ followers, and it just exploded from there. All of the sudden every critic and writer I've been reading years started tweeting it out as well, just going crazy for it. My TPL account had 67 followers when I tweeted that the site was live this morning. I'm now up to 1,130.

When I get the chance, I need to compile all the best tweets and emails and post them. Seriously, there are some really great ones. I never, ever expected this kind of response. I mean, I obviously wouldn't have done it if I wasn't confident in the idea / its success, but at the same time, I thought for sure I'd get some of these big time writers kind of rolling their eyes at the obsessiveness/niche-ness of it all. Instead, they were absolutely starving for it, more so than I ever thought possible.

How long does it usually take before a new site starts showing up in a Google search? Just searched for it to see if it came up and got nothing.

Honestly, I have no idea. That said, I literally just Googled "the projection list" and my Twitter account was the third hit, the site itself was fifth. But I've never understood if Google results are partly tied to your own history/cookies in any way.
Ah, I get it when I search 'the projection list', but not 'projection list'.

My usual daily movie site gave you a glowing review:

Great job man!

EDIT: I just saw you already posted this. Leaving it up anyway

We need to figure out how to get this on variety and deadline.

Nah just get TC into a steamy scandal with a hot Hollywood starlet (Scarlett Johansson for example) and it will blow up on tmz. I am sure he will take one for the team/website.

Pretty amazing what that one email snowballed into. Just goes to show to put yourself out there.

I've been using and sharing with all of my friends.

One thing that is missing that would be AMAZINGLY HELPFUL, is a release calendar for streaming service. What's new on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc.

There are a few blogs that post this information already, so the data is out there, but I would rather get it on your site in your format.

I think TC has mentioned that those are so irregular (especially Netflix) that it wouldn't behoove him to track it all.

I emailed the announcement to them both yesterday, but of course heard nothing back. I'm sure they get tons of crap like that every single day. I think the only other ways for them to cover it would either be A) a paid article, or B) if the site continues to get buzz over the next few days, and they're basically "forced" to cover/acknowledge it. Other than those options, I really have no clue how to truly get their attention.

Well, if he won't, hire me as a "creative influence". I'll take one for the company

Yeah, tracking all those platforms is really, really tough, and would be insanely time consuming. Especially for one person. In the about section of the site, I compare it to tracking all the various theater chains playing any given movie. The site isn't noting that Selma is playing at AMC Theaters, Carmike Theaters, and The ArcLight this weekend. People can figure that out for themselves based on their location, just like they can figure out if a movie is playing on the streaming device of their choice. That said, there might be a way to at least narrow the choices own. I definitely need to explore that idea more, seeing as other people have been asking about it as well.

Was Henry cavill seriously tweeting your site?

Ha, no, it's a Henry Cavill fansite in regards to me guessing that a BvS trailer MIGHT premiere with Warner Bros' only big movie this winter, Jupiter Ascending. I clearly not only have a disclaimer at the top of the site saying this list is unofficial, but also put the word "Projected" next to the date of the listing. I don't know how I can be any more clear that these are all just educated guesses on my part, yet all these sites are running with "Batman v Superman trailer to premiere with Jupiter Ascending!" headlines and people will not stop tweeting about it. It's insane.

I think your trailer projections are going to be one of the most popular features of the site
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
if the site builds up like it should, you will see a backlash of ignorant masses that will say "TPL is bull****, there was no trailer for X during the previews for Movie Y." 95% of folks will not even read that they are projections, and they'll start taking it as fact. So if you get tons of site traffic, plan on that being an issue.

Obviously, you'll get to have your own fun on deciding what to do, but I can guarantee if this site has anywhere close to the level of popularity we all expect, then you're going to have people trashing you on social media for "getting it wrong."...instead of responding 1 by 1...I'd have contingency plans in place now to be ready for it in the future.

Called it a few pages back! You're now a resource for entertainment sites. Congrats.

I did see a negative review of the site, and it has to do with the television section.

http://cultural-learnings.com/2015/01/07/the-limits-of-limitations-the-projection-lists-tv-problem/

I will admit the author has some points, but the fact that someone even bothered to take issue with an aspect of your site I think is a statement in of itself to how spread out your site is getting in the entertainment industry.

Sounds like the author would've liked the site better if there was NOTHING about TV at all, which doesn't make sense to me. I think most visitors to the site will get a lot out of the TV content even though it's limited.

TC comes straight out and tells you what you're getting (and what you're not) on the site, and even goes so far as to offer you his best recommendation on where to find what you're looking for.

Pretty sure that dude had that blog up about an hour after it launched. Seems like he saw the site and was waiting to write a negative review.

The author takes exception to the fact that essentially the limited list is pretty much his opinion where as the movie schedule is everything. The author takes an all or nothing approach.

This. That was so weird. The site hadn't been live for more than a couple hours and then I get this random @mention on Twitter from that guy linking to his article. I get where he's coming from, but at the same time, he's basically saying, "Who is this guy who owns and paid for the site he runs to say what goes on it?!" It's such a weird argument. I agree that I should add a few more shows, no doubt. But the entire point is that I'm purposefully TRYING to be selective. You can bet your ass I'm choosing what makes the cut and what doesn't. If you don't like it, go to tvguide.com or wherever. My favorite part was that he literally wants me to put Bravo's Girlfriend's Guide To Divorce on there. THAT'S the example he used.

Anyway, I engaged with him on a Twitter a bit, and definitely held back, but am ultimately just ignoring him. As alluded to already, the fact that he's even hating on it means I'm doing something right. Bring it on.
