Here's something I've thought about for a while, but I can't get the right words or combination yet to relate it to your site:

"The Coriolis Effect"

obviously something of a combined word to end with "olis" but the first part to relate to the site would be perfect.

It'd even work as a tiered "name" where you could drop "the" and "effect" when referencing casually or streamlining it in the future.

I'm just struggling with the right word there. I think Effect works very well, and having it be something that many people can hear and automatically distinguish due to just knowing the phrase "coriolis effect" might have a chance to be popular.

That's a pretty cool idea, actually, but I'll be honest... I have no idea how to even pronounce coriolis, and I could definitely see that being an issue.

The ____ Effect might still be strong as long as you get the right word in there.

I'm really digging that idea. Will be thinking of a word.

I think "The Source" sounds a little pretentious.

Yeah, The Source is already taken anyway. And, ha, there's no way in hell anyone in this office will ever go for "TCTTS."

I may need to reiterate that this site is going to be MASSIVE in terms of news and info. It can't have a cute/weird/obscure name. I mean, yes, we want it to stand out, so it may veer that way just a bit, but overall the plan is for this to be THE leading source in the next couple of years, so the name needs to be "worthy" of that, if that makes sense.

I haven't been able to find any other website that currently catalogues this kind of information.

There's no way of finding that out that I know of, but we'll definitely look into it. The problem is that's more of a theater thing than a studio thing. A lot of movies go out in multiple formats. But yeah, I'll see what we can do. Might be a phase two feature, but we'll see. Thanks for the input, regardless.

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly how you'd find out. I know I saw a list once linked from AVS Forum that showed the DCPs available for films at the time, but I haven't been able to find it. I just occassionally see announcements on a particular film that show it being available. It would be cool to just see like a little 4K icon next to films, then the user (me) could at least check with the theater to find out if they were using the 4K DCP.

I like the 4K icon idea. Made a note, will definitely look into it...

The Phi Effect?
After the Phi Phenomenon that makes viewing movies possible in our eyes.

Afterimage
Some kind of technical term that makes movies or TVs work is what I was looking into.

Phi Effect is cool, but almost sounds too fratty.

We actually literally just put an official bid in this afternoon for The Industry. After weeks and weeks of trying out different names, researching, etc., we just keep coming back to The Industry. It covers everything we need it to, and can be cool/sexy in the right context. So, should the bidding not go insanely high, that's probably what we're going with. And if so, I'm super stoked, as is my business partner and our project manager. We really think we can kill it with that name.

It's official: as of today, theindustry.com is ours. Lots of paperwork and negotiating - and we definitely had to pay a pretty penny for it - but the deal is finally done. Come 2016, The Industry will begin its takeover of "the industry."

Get ready.

Ha, that reminds me, in the new sign up page, in the field where you'll select your industry profession (if not simply a "Fan," which is currently the default), I had the programmers add "Entourage" to the list. Thought that might get chuckle or two.
