The article is not accurate. She hit him. He didn't hit her. They were going to cite her or haul her to jail, even though the statute is not supposed to allow them discretion in a domestic situation, they cleverly created some to let her go

You're probably right. If I was him and she was fine when we parted ways I would definitely lawyer up but I can't make sense of not talking to the cops at all.

The media also seems to conveniently leaving out several facts in the timeline.
Reading between the lines of the police report, she is majorly unhinged.
I bet their engagement fell apart, she stepped out on him, and he's in combo mode of shell shocked and IRL GTFO'ing.
Her curious dialog in the police report leads me to believe she goaded him into leaving Moab without her.
And he did - he flew out of Moab and went back to Florida, leaving her with the van.
The news isn't reporting that, nor that he flew back to Moab to collect the van again, then drove it back to Florida. Convenient the media also neglects to mention that she was seen alive after he left - certainly the first time, and maybe after the 2nd time he was in Moab.
She's laying low playing "Gone Girl" trying to get him arrested for murder in retaliation.
He's keeping quiet because he has watched the first 26 minutes, 25 seconds of this video and knows she's going to have to resurface eventually.
And all this explanation about why she stayed silent when she vanished is going to fall on her shoulders.
Meanwhile he's reorganizing his life because he's glad it's all over now, and clearing his name is just a waiting game requiring no involvement on his part at all.
At least that's my take on reading multiple sources. And I kind of hope that's how it happened, because this way results in one less awful murder.

That's oversimplifying it. He could have lawyered up because he knew that he would immediately be crucified and tagged guilty with no evidence. Which is exactly what's happening. He could not be talking because his lawyer instructed him to do so. I don't know what the law is but if she was acting crazy and took off and he just said **** it and left then she wound up dead could he be on the hook for reckless endangerment or something like that?
Smartest move if you don't know what happened to her or you know something bad is to keep your mouth shut. Can be completely innocent and walk into a jackpot. That "dont talk to the police" video that has circulated her for years demonstrates all sorts of ways an innocent person can have their effort to help twisted against them

If he killed her he should have dumped her body in a completely different state. Either way he should have notified someone that he woke up and she was gone.
I definitely get the impression that they were a crazy couple and "deserved" each other. I just don't see why he would have driven her van back and not even acknowledged that she didn't come back, unless he was trying to hide something.
If you had a crazy girl start a fight in the middle of a cross country trip, I imagine you would tell people the story of how you noped on out and drove back to Florida without her.

In his case, they found his body after a few months alongside a river in British Columbia (if I remember correctly) and attributed his death to suicide.
About a month before he disappeared, he asked me how to wipe a hard drive so that it could not be read. He was getting a divorce and wanted to wipe something off that he didn't want his wife to use against him as leverage.

She may be/have been completely nuts so of course there is a chance that she took off or he just left her somewhere after a fight and she was perfectly fine the last time he saw her. But I think the most likely explanation is that she isn't alive. Whether he killed her, she had an accident that he witnessed, or something else happened to her after he was gone, it just seems implausible to me that she could still be alive and not have communicated with someone by now.
His behavior and the circumstances reek of guilt, in my opinion. At best, even if he was just sick of her ****, leaving her alone in the middle of nowhere and not following up to make sure she was safe is pretty awful behavior. It's not like she was some random chick he'd just hooked up with, they were engaged to be married and apparently liked each other enough at one point to plan to live in a van together for months.
That being said he hasn't even deleted or made his IG private and there is some kind of creepy stuff on there - he's just completely off the grid. There could be endless speculation on his motive for staying silent, but he's also not painting himself into a corner by doing/saying things he can't take back.
