I think you're onto something. Drive 10 laps, 500m swim, drive 10 laps, 10k bike, drive 10 laps, 5k run, drive 10 laps. Way more interesting, though the swim transition may take a few minutes.

They weren't measuring the actual speed of the cars in the pitl ane but rather tracking the time it takes them to travel between two fixed points at the entrance and exit of the pit lane.


Because the very end of the pit lane is curved you can actually travel a slightly more direct and shorter distance between the two measuring points than what was being measured. So while your vehicle speed would remain constant and under the limit, the system would measure you taking less than the allowed amount of time to travel between the two points and flag you as speeding in the pit lane.


It's really dumb and why so many people got hit with speeding.

Stroll is unserious and has no business driving these cars. He's going to get himself or someone else hurt, or worse.

New evidence haa been submitted suggesting the calculated pit-lane speed (based on distance used by live timing) was "inaccurate".

The FIA will now review their decision.

Going from rarely having pit speed issues to multiple violations in one race should have been a big clue to F1 that something was wrong as the race was happening.

Yeah, I mean it's not like they literally have a button that limits their speed to under the threshold in the pit, why wouldn't 25% of the field's speed limiter be malfunctioning?

Russell claimed that, during the pit stop where he got his violation, his instantaneous velocity never went above the limit. I would think that there would be telemetry data to back that up. Maybe I'm wrong.

Three things had to line up for the stewards to overturn this.

I have no idea but thanks for the tip. With all the streaming options it's so hard to keep up. I remember watching the Speed Channel on satellite back in the day. They always had something good on.
