I have nothing to add here, but I don't want to let the tennis thread fall to the bottom of the 'other' pile. LOL

Anyone have any interesting tidbits on how to follow our current and future athletes as they play throughout the summer?

Also - what class is Carson listed as? Sophomore? Junior? Senior?

That's why I come back here. I'm too creepy to social media in the offseason. That's what I need y'all for.

She could probably get a medical redshirt if she applied. Since she didn't play at all her first two years due to injury and surgery

Not sure she can because of the covid year. May be one or the other

Coach Szabo recently got married. Most players and ex players attended.

She has 2 years she could claim though. One medical redshirt and one Covid year. Considering there at 6th year seniors still around, I think she could earn one. Or Atleast I hope so. I love watching her play! She's going to be unstoppable this next year.

Do we think she might play another year and then maybe go pro? Hasn't she won grand slam tournaments in doubles? That's crazy to me to think that she's done that and played the #2 line for us.

I think she will play 1 more year and then turn pro. During an interview with Texags she wants that education. Why work so hard in high school and not get a degree. Her words.

She has won Junior Slam doubles tournaments. And she actually played line 1 for us.

Oh you meant line 2 in doubles. Correct! It is crazy to think that. Next year she should be moved up to line 1.

Yeah - I'm wondering if she plays with Goldsmith or sticks with Mary at line 1?

I could see a few situations!

1. Carson and Mary
2. Mia and Jayci
3. Jeanette and Gianna

Or.

1. Carson and Mia
2. Jayci and Tati
3. Freshmen and Sophomores

I really liked what Carson and Mary were able to do at the end of the season against good comp! Their chemistry and play should improve through the fall! Since Carson transferred in the spring they had to learn on the go! I bet they become unstoppable next year! Put them on line 1, let Jayci mentor Mia

Oh, I agree. Mary surprised me. She is so solid! She kind of reminds me of when Hingis came out and was just beating everyone. Watching her, I wondered how she was beating Seles, Graff, etc because she seemed to lack a big weapon. Mary just wins wins wins and doesn't have a weakness, which is her biggest strength. I could see Mary and Carson staying together and moving to line 1; however, I don't think Jayci would be happy to be bumped to the 2 line considering she's a doubles AA. Lots of options!!
Ag4eva95
How long do you want to ignore this user?
We have never seen Jayci play with anyone else over the last 4 years, so I am curious to see what happens. I truly have no idea. Mary is so good at the net, which compliments Carson who isn't as strong. Sets Mary up well.

Jayci turned into a good baseliner, so she needs someone steady at the net. Who knows, maybe Jeanette or Daria turn into that person

Does anyone have a feel or knowledge about Ellie Pittman? Has anyone seen her at the summer camps? With 2 strong freshman coming in, Gianna and Jeanette may even be looking over their shoulders. It's going to be a wonderful problem to have again next year with a full slate of players, but someone like Ellie could move on to some place like Arkansas or Missouri and be in the middle of the lineup. If that happened I can see a TCU situation happening all over again, where Bobby let the Turpin girl go back to TCU (where she had family ties anyway), she (Turpin) comes back the next year in the NCAA's and is the deciding match in the round of 32 when we played at Mitchell, she wins, and the next thing you know Bobby is history.

If you have any doubt of Carson for next year and her love for A&M, Google Match Point Canada Episode 20. I listened on Spotify.

I'm already psyched for next year!

Ok, I am not an Aggie but I watched this team play 4 times this past year. What a talented team and fun to watch. I am a huge college tennis fan.
It is really going to hurt losing your #2 player, she probably should have been #1 but smart move was to
let her stay at 2 and Carson continue at 1.
I really think the schedule hurt the 4-6 players the most. It was just way to weak and all matches were at home. I know they were young and needed experience but UT didn't worry about youth and they were ready for the post season. Don't really think they had the best team but anything can happen when you have Stearns. SEC was good as usual but not great as they normally are. Aggie's were by far the strongest team in the SEC.
It will be interesting who they match Jaci up with next year. I will be back watching as they will be top 8 again and maybe even higher.
Maybe the Aggie men and Aggie women can compromise on that schedule as the men's was brutal! Denton is not afraid to play anyone.
That is just my .02 worth

Welcome!

Stearns was basically a guaranteed 2 wins for tu. It will be interesting to see how they do without her. I see them as a Top 5 team but not sure they can do a three-peat.

Good point about scheduling. tu were young last year and even more so this year.

Aggie men has got some great transfers coming in and were so close in beating several Top 10 teams this year. I hoping both make it to Orlando next year!!

Thanks!
I watched the men play about the same amount. They had several teams on the ropes and just couldn't put them away. I was not aware of the transfers so hope they work out. That team has tons of fight in them but men's tennis is brutal. Very few easy matches except for the Prairie Views!

So I'm trying to figure the logic out here of the last few comments. The men's team finished 25 in the nation and they got the scheduling correct? The women finished 5 in the USTA and 7 in the ITA and were ranked as high as #1 in the USTA polls going into the ncaa tournament. Just did some quick match and looks like the women had 15 top 30 wins. Am I missing something here or is everyone smarter than me?

I think our schedule affected our overall seeding, and some of the easy wins may not have prepared lines 5-6 for stiffer competition is what he/she is saying. I, too, wondered if Carson should have played line 2, but if you can guarantee a win at line 2 with Tati and you're usually 50/50 at line 1, that's really all you can ask for. Carson will be VERY good at line 1 over the next 2 years if we're lucky enough to keep her. Line 5-6 hurt us in the later part of the season, although, Pielet came up big vs OU. That was an unexpected victory (IMO) and Tati was the unfortunate and unexpected loss. Line 3 doubles should have NEVER lost that match in the semis, and unfortunately, that was the nail in our coffin. Playing indoors was a complete disadvantage for our team. I believe we had the best outdoor team in the country this year, but it just didn't play in our favor with the weather.

It seems as if our coaches went for quantity of matches over some quality. With the SEC usually top heavy (but becoming more balanced), I'm not sure that was a bad strategy. Texas and OU benefitted by playing each other numerous times throughout the season. Two very solid teams. Georgia was ultimately affected by the loss of their #1 singles player whom Carson pretty much knocked out for the year after we beat them 7-0. If she had stayed in the lineup, that would have been a tough team to take out in the NCAAs.

I'm sure a lot goes into scheduling and I would assume that with the talent we have coming in over the next few years, I'd expect to see our schedule reflect that. Bring them all on! Gig'em!

Trust me, I am not the expert in the room!! That pretty much is exactly the point I was trying to make.
Now, I do feel the men's schedule did work against them but couple of wins would have changed the whole season. The women did not play anyone until the ITA indoors and turned out, only California stayed in the top ten. Then, really didn't play anyone until SEC. Now, they took care of business in the SEC but just wondered if 5-6 was prepared for those big matches.
I am a big Jeanette fan and think she will be ready for next year.

One of the best and most dominant sport's teams in Texas A&M history. It is hard to imagine anyone being critical of the staff and student athletes. This team lost only two matches the entire season that they just as easily could have won with any sort of luck.
