TBH, there were some close scores to make you sweat! Giana and Carson going 3, Katya playing 2 set tiebreakers. I agree, it was definitely a trap match. They have talent and I can see them making a run through the SEC tournament( like Semis)
Because I am bored and choose not to work, I was looking into next years roster a bit.
Mia Kupres took down Okie Lites number #2 in straight sets in the fall. She is currently a top 30 collegiate player. Given the results and how quickly she is improving, she could sneak her way into the top 3-4 of the lineup. She's really good and will be ranked collegiately at some point her freshmen season

If Jayci Goldsmith stays, we'll have a lineup of Carson Branstine, Mary Stoiana, Jayci Goldsmith, Mia Kupres, Giana Pielet, Jeannette Mireles, and another talented freshman Daria Smetannikov... this is just a rough estimate, but either way we will have a LOADED roster!
Agreed! That is a stacked lineup. Another top5 team, especially with the freshmen developing. Gianna will need to develop her backhand and net skills. She is a baseliner. Jeanette reminds me a lot like Mary, just needs to get stronger and work on net skills. Carson just needs to work on the mental game(which has improved tremendously). If they can all take a small step forward, watch out 2023. Scary lineup

I spoke to Mark briefly the other day about next year's team and he is very confident that they will be as good if not better. Says Mia Kupres is the real deal and will be ready to go right away. Daria could likely be another Tatiana given some time. The newbies will all be better as well.
That's what I'm thinking too. That's why I'm thinking Mia will be too 3 in the lineup. This is extremely exciting to hear, womens tennis is one of my favorite aggie sports to watch.

I think so too. Would love Katya back as well. I think Jayci found her sweet spot at #4 this year. If she comes back next year, I think she has a chance to make NCAAs. Would be interesting to see where doubles team would align. Obviously Carson/Mary at #1, but two brand new doubles teams after that. Carson/Mary have a chance to be a special duo next season too
Daria recently won a National Indoors tournamemt and reached the doubles finals as well. I can see her cracking the lineup. National Championship caliber team problems.
Daria is an exciting prospect. She is ver fast/quick, which is great for tennis. Depending on how she adapts to collegiate tennis, I think this team could go 8 deep.
I don't think we have ever had a bench this deep before. Ellie, Jeanette, Liz Boyer is quickly on the rise as well. Mark has created a great culture and fun atmosphere to watch womens tennis

I know I know, it's more wishful thinking. I feel like Katya has a revenge tour left in her. She's fun to watch. I feel like if she could get hit with some more spin and power, she would be very very dangerous.
Doesn't make sense as Pepperdine played freaking Gonzaga and Portland. Portland is definitely kills the strength of schedule. I wish I understood the logic more for ITA rankings
