just watched the replay of the selection show on ncaa.com. The host twice said that we were in the Big 12.
The NCAA singles and doubles selections were questionable. I am happy for Carson for earning a top 8 seed, but how does Jayci and Tati dip to 4 after spending the whole season at #1 or 2 in the ranking. How is Tati not a top 16 seed. How does Mary not even make the alternate list for the tourney. So many questions

For the individuals the first goal is to be an all American, that happens if you finish top 20 or make it to the round of 16. The next goal obviously is to win it all and in order to do that you've got to beat the best & your exact seed is pretty irrelevant as long as you're in that top group. As we saw in the team portion where we are actually better off by being 7 then we would 6. The rankings are so jacked up anyway there's no real advantage to being a couple of spots higher or lower. there's no Djokovic or Serena you're trying to avoid.
Assuming (and praying) we advance. Why do several believe we match up better with OU than we do with tu? Didn't OU take 2 of 3 from tu this season?

Mary is 30-4 on the season, 13-0 against the SEC at number 3. Like 13-4 against ranked opponents. Doesn't even get a second look for NCAAs.
Tati is like 29-2 on the year, undefeated in duals. 13-2 or something like that against ranked opponents. Yet, she has to go win 2 matches to become an all American. That's an all American season for the #7 team in the country.
I'm questioning how the human pills screw us in football and basketball. The computer poll screws us in tennis. The girls deserve the accolades after a 30-1 regular season

On paper, we match up better than TU as they have a very young but super talented roster. OU I think has overachieved. Either match will be tough, but winnable

Howard is a far better coach than the OU coach. He has been to the mountaintop before. This is the best team she's ever had and it takes getting there and losing to be ready to win it all IMO. Longhorns won the last match decisively and are playing their best tennis right now. Longhorns better than we are at 1, not true of OU. Both matches would be tough but I think we start off 2-0 vs OU with the rest of the spots competitive.
Yeah it doesn't make sense at all. When I try to explain it or find the silver lining I'm not agreeing with it even 1%.
Agree with all of this and more. I really hope we make a run and prove the computers wrong, but this is what the talking heads do, too. That one cracked racket podcast I listened to had one analyst that literally thinks we are a fluke, but when you look at our wins, I scratch my head wondering where they are coming up with that?
I honestly thought we were a potential fluke after non conference. We had a super weak non conference. But after running through and earning 2 SEC titles, I thought we earned the respect. The Big 12 was weak last year, but TU was still #1 in the country. The ITA has to answer some questions here.

SEC awards are voted on.
The main reason Tatiana wasn't SEC POY is because she played 2 for us. You're not going to get voted the conference POY if you aren't playing the top spot on your own team.

It makes no sense to me that North Carolina lost 2 matches in the last few weeks and are still the #1 overall seed. One of the reasons Virginia and Duke are ranked so high is bc of their wins against North Carolina. They benefitted from beating NC and NC was not punished for losing. Makes no sense.
Tell me how Kessler from Florida got the award. Her season wasn't POY worthy

All American also happens if you are seeded going into the tournament.
