Hamilton is more mature, for damn sure. He's been here before. Which leads to max making more mistakes when not necessary. But I can think of a handful of over aggressive errors Lewis has made as well, this year. Silverstone is the big one. Or his magic brake button error or whatever they're calling it in Baku

It also seems like a lot of their racing incidents are by default max being over aggressive. Seems that people expect him to back out of situations but don't realize Hamilton could have just as easily done the same. For example the Italian Grand Prix.

If Max drove less aggressively, this would be another boring follow the leader season and Hamilton would already be the champion. Just glad some racing is still allowed in this series, hopefully is it better with the new cars next year

2021 Silverstone accident was Hamilton being more aggressive. It's funny how he's not as aggressive when he clearly has the faster car. Hmmm... Makes you think that they are.. racing?

As someone who's driven on track for a few years, I don't think Max did anything wrong per se, but what he did was unexpected and that creates chaos.

Ham is locked onto his bumper and as soon as he realizes Max is checking up he's wondering what's wrong? He's looking for a crash beyond Max, a yellow flag, a yellow signal on the electronic flagging system... If he passes Max under any of those scenarios he's getting a penalty. People don't just slow down and let you pass in F1, especially Max.

It took Hamilton a second to process what was going on. I've had more close calls on track exactly the way it came about with Hamilton than all of my other close calls combined.

I've also been in Max's position in this instance and you get impatient that the guy behind you isn't taking the gift you are giving them... And after a second or two you say *****it and put your foot back into the gas.

That's what I saw today
Occam's Razor in full effect here. This seems to be the simplest and most obvious explanation for what happened. Frankly it was pretty obvious live.

I think both time penalties are garbage since the main fault lies with the stewards who should've informed Mercedes that they were going to make Max give the spot back BEFORE telling Red Bull.

Been an F1 fan since mid 80's. Glad to see so many fans on here.

Max is too aggressive. Silverstone and Monza happened because Hamilton had a choice; continue letting Max force his way into the lead and back down to avoid contact, or fight back. He chose to stand his ground and contact happened because Max did not back down. Always braking way late, then expecting Hamilton to concede corner.

Someone mentioned earlier that Max was clean in last race and Hamilton had 2 incidents. Well, both of Hamilton's incidents were result of Max actions. Break check was 50/50, but the last restart, Max forced his way in on late brake, and Hamilton had no choice but to take evasive action to avoid contact with Max. Announcers praised Max for bold move.

I do like the close fight for championship!

I'll put it out there: I like Hamilton plenty. He is awesome and his record proves it. His social justice stuff bothers me zero. However, I pull for Max simply because I like the competition and like to root for the 'underdog'. This year, Redbull and Max are the only people that can give Lewis/MB a challenge and I love seeing them have to fight for a change. From a championship perspective, last year was beyond boring... hard to say that this season!

How many teams do we think will really be competitive next year? I would love to see 3-5 teams have a solid chance of putting drivers on the podium consistently. I don't want to see a Hamilton, Russell, Verstappen podium 3 out of every 4 races

That's a good question, and something I'm looking forward to finding out.

Will the gap between Ferrari/Mclaren and RB/Mercedes narrow? Will some of them fall back, and others jump to the front? Will the status quo remain?

I'm also interested to see if Stroll's investements pay dividends going forward. He has ambitions plans.

There are lots of story lines Im anxious to see play out.

1 or 2. I hope I'm wrong, but usually after a big rules overhaul 1 team knocks it out of the park (e.g. 1998, 2009, 2014)

Did they ever go back and show the battle between Bottas snd Ocon during the last few laps? You could see it happening in the live standings, but the live video feed was just on Hamilton during the final laps

No, why would they do that when they can show Lewis driving a full lap with no one around him?

Here is the last lap chase from Bottas' view: https://streamable.com/1glly2

Man! my heart breaks for him. The frustration in his voice that there was nothing he could do, due to the car he is driving.

I wish we could see the previous turn that Bottas cut. Did Bottas slow down Ocon by over running that corner?

Absolutely! Great drive from P9 -> P1 -> P3 only to watch the podium slip away at the last second. Really sucks for him.

Got main grandstand for Montreal in June. Coming back Monday post race then leaving to London that weekend to be there for a week before Silverstone. These are my first two international trips I make and both for F1 lol

Thanks. Bottas at least had fun this weekend, he enjoyed the track and got to chase someone down with something on the line

McLaren fan here...I think they are going to take a step back next year. RIC might be more consistent being that it will be the 2nd year with the team....but it will be another year with a new car.

They don't seem to take advantage of the Mercedes engine and I am open to them moving to Audi/VW/Porsche when the new engine regs come about in a few years.

I just don't want them to sell out to Audi.

I would love that too. Would mean Ferrari 1-2 most likely

Wow. Watched the race on Monday night and what an epic battle it was.

So much catching up to do on TexAgs. Love the brake check and quick retake from Max; may not be gentlemanly, but it certainly entertained. I agree with one of the posters who said Max needs to be that aggressive or Merc wins another uncontested season.

Unpopular opinion: McLaren should focus more on going fast than looking cool. Maybe they would have hung on to third in the constructors battle.

I think they lost that focus and more or less gave up on 3rd place several races ago...

Lando does not seem the same after his water-skiing loss to Lewis earlier this year. He was doing well up until then.

I am all for F1 shifting focus from BLM to Women's rights, especially in countries that actually need help in that area. I hate the political side of it all because it should be there to entertain. But if they can pivot the #WeRaceAsOne to human rights in general, and have the balls to call out issues in other countries that some in America conveniently ignore based on agenda, then I'm all for it.

ETA: I'm surprised that Lewis would wear the rainbow on his helmet in the Middle East. I gained some respect for him because of it. There is real oppression for that community in every Middle East country F1 races in, save for maybe Turkey.

So I went back to look at the F1 2018 thread and found posters then thought Ricciardo was at fault for the crash into the back of Max. I find that laughable now, because I think it's pretty clear now how Max was moving around in the braking zone to prevent his clearly faster teammate from passing. There were no team orders then, and Max treated Ricciardo no different than anyone else...He doesn't give an inch when he should, and it cost the team then and I'm willing to bet it will cost him and the team next weekend.

I'll say this about Max. Good....I'm glad he's aggressive. It makes it so much more fun for the fans. I also want anyone and everyone to challenge the leader at the top...so if it takes him being overly aggressive to do so, so be it. We need a couple more like him to really spice things up. This season has been a blast.

And to be fair, the only reason Hamilton is tied with Max right now, is because Lewis was overly-aggressive and knocked Max out of the British Grand Prix, and because his partner was too aggressive and wrecked Max in Hungary.

Aggressive driving makes it fun.

Sounds like Abu Dhabi now has the new kerbs we have seen in recent weeks....and Pirelli are bringing the softest compounds this weekend.

Also, special livery for Kimi this weekend.

Do you think we will see, say 11 teams with 22 drivers in the near future on just stick with 10?

I think think there'd have to be another engine manufacturer come in. Which it's sounding more and more likely that Audi and/or Porsche will join when the new engine regs take effect.
