So I binged the Netflix series and surprisingly really enjoyed it. But now I have no idea who Im supposed to root for or against.
It really just depends which storyline floats your boat the most. Hamilton has been the largely unchallenged champion the last few years but is seeing a huge challenge from Verstappen this season. Lots of strong young talent with guys like Norris, Gasly, LeClerc, Russell. Older veterans fighting to keep seats like Vettel, Alonso, and Raikkonnen.
Rookies that can't get out of their own way.

Take your pick.

What a loaded weekend this time. Formula 2 and Formula W.

I will say, not liking the new F2 and F3 calendar. F1 is on their 10th round and F2 barely on their 4, and that's halfway through their season. Formula W on their 2nd. I understand the changes were to reduce costs but damn.

I just dont see this method of qualifying lasting long. Not enough parity between the drivers, teams, and cars i think. Prove me wrong though. Would love to see some different front rows other than Hamilton, Verstappen, or Bottas. Give me a Russell, Alonso, Raikkonen top 3 lol.

Reverse the start grid based on driver points for sprint race. Would be way more fun.

They are only going to do it 3-4 times per year so I think they will stick with it a while. It almost creates a "double-header" within the same weekend and I'm sure they can charge more for the tickets to the sprint than they would for P2 or P3.

I like the idea of mixing up qualifying but at the end of the day, what team wants to risk their Sunday on Saturday?

Today was the 2022 car launch event...not a whole lot of new info if you've been keeping up with what is changing but here are some of the videos nonetheless...

Looks like F1 doesn't allow their YT vids to be shared elsewhere....there are several here: https://www.youtube.com/c/F1/videos

Busy morning between F1 and Open.

Worked late last night so I could enjoy. So far, worth it.

Going to be torn a bit once practice / qualifying start....

I believe i missed Silverstone last year (last year was first year following)....anything "special" or things to watch for re: Silverstone weekend?

I am not sure if this is normal or not lol but I tend to enjoy F1 as much for the "locations" / "background" as anything. Was fun seeing the fans in the Austrian the other weekend...

I'm sure there are a lot more reasons but here are few for now:

  • One of the oldest and most traditional races in all of F1
  • Lewis Hamilton's home race so there tends to be a lot of hype around that
  • This year, it's the first time F1 is trialling the Sprint Qualifying format

Ok i am struggling to understand this Sprint stuff and the benefits. My initial reaction is "i like standard qualifying better" but maybe tomorrow will change my mind....

There is a lot of potential for the Sprint Qualifying to shake things up for the race. Because it is only 17 laps, a mistake that can be made up for over the course of a full race may be much more costly for the Sprint. For instance, just about anyone who is forced to pit during the Sprint quali for any reason will very likely lose quite a few grid spots for the Sunday race.

If you look at the last race in Austria, the disastrous start by Perez was able to be made up before the end of the race, with him getting back to P5. Tomorrow, that kind of start would pretty much guarantee him starting P10 or worse on Sunday.

Free tire choice for the sprint. What tires are required to start the race tomorrow? Is it still the Q2 set?

A little surprised Perez hasn't gained more places. Must've trashed those tires on that off.
TV guys say free tire choice again tomorrow.

Could be that Red Bull is assuming he can get those spots back tomorrow and are not pressing today.

How the heck did Max get that much better of a start than Lewis?

Perez always makes it interesting but loves to come back through the field. He's got his work cut out tomorrow but with a 2 stop strategy and a better car than the dozen cars in front of him at start he should end up top 5. Only concern is getting caught up behind someone or contact through the field.

Well, Max's brakes were on fire so his tires were much warmer than Lewis'.

All this did was remind me of the days before the refueling ban when the cars could go flat out at the start of the race.

There is no refueling during pit stops, so if you were to run out of fuel.....
aggiejumper

Ligher fuel loads means cars can push full speed from the start then refuel when they pit for tires. Currently the cars start with around 100kg of fuel which weighs the cars down and slows them down. Also accelerates tire wear with full fuel.
