Jim Schlossnagle set to leave Texas A&M for Texas head coaching job

The rumors, indeed, have legs.

Jim Schlossnagle is set to be named the next head baseball coach at the University of Texas after three incredibly successful seasons at Texas A&M.

The news was first reported by Chip Brown of Horns247 and later confirmed by TexAgs' Billy Liucci and D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers.

A career-altering move by Schlossnagle comes less than 24 hours after his Aggies lost Game 3 of the Men's College World Series Finals on Monday night.

"I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M," he said postgame. "I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again, and that hasn't changed in my mind."

Obviously, something changed between then and Tuesday evening.

Schlossnagle, 53, was introduced to the 12th Man on June 10, 2021.

In three seasons in College Station, he took the Aggies to the Men's College World Series twice, reaching the final four both times and the championship series in 2024.

His A&M tenure controversially ends in infamy with a 135-62 record.

lol. We were the 2nd best team in the country for pretty much the whole year. That's not really debatable. You overstate your criticisms of the roster, but if you were accurate, it'd only make the job he did that much more impressive.

I think the University from the top down owes Aggies an explanation, and it should be investigated by the SEC. Further, he should be immediately removed from coaching in the SEC. How in the world did this happen AD Alberts on your watch? I hate what college athletics has become with all the NIL, Transfer Portal, coaches honoring their contracts, etc. This is a major slap by Schlossnagel and tu on my university and I am very upset!

yeah, no. We were one catch by Jace from losing Game 1 to Florida. We were 2 errors from losing to sips in the regional. We were a bunch of walks from losing the 2nd game to Oregon. The players are who persevered while coach checked out.

I don't care he left at this point, people have to make the bed they slept in. But baseball should be played on real grass. Not nylon, polypropylene or polyethylene. I wonder if all the tree huggers in Austin realize there field is made of the filthy thing called petroleum. Can't stand Austin politics or the communist grass field. At least leave to a ballpark that smells like baseball field and not a condom when slide to catch a ball.

True. I was very worried about the impact of the announcements on the players. It had to play a notably negative impact for such young kids right before the biggest game.

Coach lost two things on going to TU 1) Possibly his best and only chance of winning a national championship 2) He lost a program was on an upward trajectory with a chance to turn into a juggernaut or dynasty. Everything was moving up (facilities, NIL, recruiting, etc).

A&M lost a lot as well. Losing a title one day and less than 24 hours later they lost their coach. Next, we will have to worry about transfers, recruiting and donations. It's quite a toll to the alumni, especially with USA Today, etc publishing articles on A&M being a 2nd tier school at a lower level than Texas with Texas's only equals being Bama, Michigan & Ohio State... I was shocked it was published.

It's not a coincidence that this team came together with a positive attitude after Max arrived. This whole team came together with his influence. He is a perfect fit for us as he was a leader in military school as a teenager leading young men with a vision of coaching and developing young men. There is no doubt he is a young superstar who will have a long, successful coaching career. Let's offer him the chance to start that journey now rather than following a lying snake to tu. I would love to see that big Max smile in Snakenagle's face every time we whip their ass from this point forward.

This was a coordinated **** ******* of galactic proportions by texas, cdc and schloss. Total **** move. More that I am reading this was begun at the midpoint of the season. How many assistants knew? When did Trev become aware? How many players knew?

Max just brought everyone together because he is likable, while Schloss is a jerk in comparison to the kids. That's the difference. You could see it in Kent's words.

Max isn't some genius. He's a data guy 29-year-old who didn't even play college baseball last I checked. Most his advice to pitchers is confidence-related.

I would like to know why he feels that's a better job than ours . . . or why would he want that job more than ours.

I'd like to know the answer to this so that we can fix whatever we can to retain people like him instead of losing him to anybody, especially sip.

It has been a gut-wrenching 24 hours. When Jim Scholssnagle got furious at a reporter last night and insisted on that Texas A&M is his last job, he sounded very sincere. He is a 2-face piece of crap that has a history of lying.

Yep, complete dick move. A lot of the baseball board stalwarts however have been haughty about BAS and the "zoo posters" not understanding the finer points of baseball and the dynasty JS was building. Well, this is why.

A&M is in the spotlight for the biggest men's sports success in decades, and our coach leaves for Texas and bungles the chance we had to win a national championship. Spare me the "but Tenn #1 and they are good" stuff. I know. If you don't think the move to Texas affected JS's mindset Sunday and Monday, your head is in the sand.

This is A&M. It's just what happens. Better to enjoy a fulfilling life with family and hobbies you can challenge yourself with rather than putting all your hopes in mercenaries in "college" sports.
