Jim Schlossnagle set to leave Texas A&M for Texas head coaching job

The rumors, indeed, have legs.

Jim Schlossnagle is set to be named the next head baseball coach at the University of Texas after three incredibly successful seasons at Texas A&M.

The news was first reported by Chip Brown of Horns247 and later confirmed by TexAgs' Billy Liucci and D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers.

A career-altering move by Schlossnagle comes less than 24 hours after his Aggies lost Game 3 of the Men's College World Series Finals on Monday night.

"I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M," he said postgame. "I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again, and that hasn't changed in my mind."

Obviously, something changed between then and Tuesday evening.

Schlossnagle, 53, was introduced to the 12th Man on June 10, 2021.

In three seasons in College Station, he took the Aggies to the Men's College World Series twice, reaching the final four both times and the championship series in 2024.

His A&M tenure controversially ends in infamy with a 135-62 record.

I agree this absolutely sucks. Is it at all possible that someone at A&M in leadership may have messed something up or been asleep at the wheel? This is just too bizarre and we may not have all the facts. I have the feeling there is more to the story that we will never know about, and it's just very easy to lay all the blame at Schlossnagle's feet and make him out to be 100% the bad guy...

I'm sure that's what he's going to say. Feel free to believe it. Because there are plenty of people that know otherwise and if you don't want to believe them, so be it.

Not the 1st time and won't be the last that A&M gets thrown under the bus by sits rival and gets eaten up by a portion of our own fan base

I do hear you, but in some cases involving big bureaucratic and complex organizations, the simplest explanation is just that - the simplest explanation. I think it's quite possible that A&M leadership stepped on themselves. I know it won't happen, but I would love to depose some folks...

Just read on one of tos that there was info on the whole staff leaving with Schloss as early as June 18. Not that it was a possibility, but that it was done. He was waaaay past negotiations by the time Omaha was upon us.

Confirmed by Brauny that Texas players were being told to wait. That Schloss was coming and it was done. This was back in June. I mean that Brauny himself was getting texts about this back in June.

He left his family for his TCU girlfriend......the morals of a pig.

I thought I heard that in the presser. Did he really have a buyout clause to jump to Texas? That's crazy if so, and why would we agree to put that in there?

TCU to TAMU - Different conferences. More money. Not a direct rival. Beyond that I get your point......to a point.

The ill intent involved here is next level.
