Jim Schlossnagle set to leave Texas A&M for Texas head coaching job

The rumors, indeed, have legs.

Jim Schlossnagle is set to be named the next head baseball coach at the University of Texas after three incredibly successful seasons at Texas A&M.

The news was first reported by Chip Brown of Horns247 and later confirmed by TexAgs' Billy Liucci and D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers.

A career-altering move by Schlossnagle comes less than 24 hours after his Aggies lost Game 3 of the Men's College World Series Finals on Monday night.

"I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M," he said postgame. "I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again, and that hasn't changed in my mind."

Obviously, something changed between then and Tuesday evening.

Schlossnagle, 53, was introduced to the 12th Man on June 10, 2021.

In three seasons in College Station, he took the Aggies to the Men's College World Series twice, reaching the final four both times and the championship series in 2024.

His A&M tenure controversially ends in infamy with a 135-62 record.

I'm an older Ag (approaching 60 and, right, I never post). I've been through 'the high road' path many times with A&M. It hasn't won us any Championships in the major sports in decades, and it won't! As a conservative and an Aggie, we need to recognize the environment of the arenas in which we play and get kinetic. That doesn't mean getting illegal, violent, unscrupulous, or cheating. It means being active, tough, and demanding, and not being apologists for others actions like can be read here frequently. As examples, let's play the Schloss A&M presser clip and even the tcu 'I'm not interested' clip 20 times in the next game here, even the football game this fall. Be relentless! (Of course, the whiny tu babies will have that outlawed like the horns down.) Let's (esp. BMAs and Texags reporters) demand our AD provide a full, clear, public, and true explanation and be accountable of this and all major AD moves. Let's take a serious look at B10. (I'm not a fan of this, but as many note here, it's a business decision to evaluate, including whether we want our own identity separate from tu!) There is nothing wrong with our culture at A&M! tu has written the 'cult' publicity and we've allowed it. We don't celebrate 'weird' here, but we also don't expect enough accountability for the end results. Gig 'em!

I doubt there was a chance to match the offer. This has been in the works for quite a while. A&M lost on Monday, they made the hiring known Tuesday. Schlos is following his AD that he was under at TCU. Doesn't anyone think this a BIG COINCIDENCE??!! Schlos is right where he belongs, birds of a feather ly together!!!!

I had a feeling he was going after his response to Zane's question. It made zero sense if he was staying. Good luck to ya Schloss. You left a school where you would have been the first to win a Natty, a legend. And. You left it for a school where it'll be another notch on the bedpost lol. In the end this speaks volumes to Aggie brass. He didn't leave for $, he didn't leave for legacy, he didn't leave for more resources, he left due to relationships. Look in the mirror Aggie brass.

Grahovic has a huge hole in his swing. He was nearly an auto out throughout the playoffs. I.think he can be great, but, I'd hesitate to follow schloss if I were him.

I think his output can be replaced.

Sorrell got better throughout the year and was one of our best at the end. Losing him is a real nut punch.

Just want to remind everyone that "hissing" instead of "booing" is amongst our worst traditions. I think we should all agree to officially end it when Schlossnagle shows his face at Blue Bell for the first time as a sip.

stfu, you clown. Grahovac hit the ball hard plenty when he got out. He hit over .320 most the year as a true freshman before a late slump with breaking-balls. His batting-coach here sucked too. He's a fkn boss. He was the SEC Player of the Year and a future 1st round pick.

Well, I guess the silver lining is that ATM now knows there is interest as well as big doner money so they can go out and find another good coach.

Other than that… whelp…eyes up.

(The only thing the gets my goat is that those players deserved better. That was a good group of young men who played above and beyond. To have this happen to them as they are having one of the worst stretch of 24 hours in their lives is just bull sheet).

At least he was loyal to his wife. He's a man of character and integrity. A role model for all. He gave every ounce of his soul focusing on winning that championship. No distractions. The stench of sulfur was nowhere to be found. The honorable man himself said that he could hardly talk about the 12th man for very long for fear lest he might cry. What a saintly man. I think the Catholic Church wants to canonize him.
The next, loyal, Aggie coach, will show him how to win a national championship to honor the selfless standards this man of his words set. How dare that reporter ask him such a selfish question about rumors of him leaving! It's true, that reporter was a POS and owes the venerable coach an apology.

It was more than just the money. "I left my family." He came from TCU. That's Ft. Worth/Dallas. He made his wife move to B/CS. Can you imagine the culture change for his socialite wife? Now he's taking his wife to Austin. The State Capital. And the extra money is nice. He had every resource he needed at A&M. He's fifty-three. He's cashing out with the richest public university in the U.S. He's ready to retire, with more money and to make his wife happy. I'm an old school red-ass ag. I wouldn't have done it. But I understand why he did it. I don't like it. But I understand it. You all can book mark this post and tell me if I was wrong in 2 or 3 years. That's o.k.. I think he's going to spend a lot of time, with his wife, making her happy and enjoying the social life in Austin. His new-found money will certainly help that. I will predict this - he will never be as successful in Austin as he was at A&M or TCU. It's not about that for him and his wife anymore. It's about enjoying the rest of their lives. Honestly, if I wasn't a maroon bleeding Aggie, I probably would have made the same decision. In fact, I'm 59 and my wife is from a city of 4 million people, and I am making many similar decisions. I just don't need the money anymore. I've put my work ahead of my wife for years. My kids are grown and out of college. They have good jobs. I'm making decisions that make my wife happy now. My wife has put up with my career for a long time. I owe that to my wife. Again, I would not screw over A&M for that, but hey, he's not an Aggie. Paul Manari is a really great guy. I know him. He's had to make a lot of same decisions. It happens when you get older.
