Jim Schlossnagle set to leave Texas A&M for Texas head coaching job

June 25, 2024
339,133

The rumors, indeed, have legs.

Jim Schlossnagle is set to be named the next head baseball coach at the University of Texas after three incredibly successful seasons at Texas A&M.

The news was first reported by Chip Brown of Horns247 and later confirmed by TexAgs' Billy Liucci and D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers.

A career-altering move by Schlossnagle comes less than 24 hours after his Aggies lost Game 3 of the Men's College World Series Finals on Monday night.

"I left my family to be the coach at Texas A&M," he said postgame. "I took the job at Texas A&M to never take another job again, and that hasn't changed in my mind."

Obviously, something changed between then and Tuesday evening.

Schlossnagle, 53, was introduced to the 12th Man on June 10, 2021.

In three seasons in College Station, he took the Aggies to the Men's College World Series twice, reaching the final four both times and the championship series in 2024.

His A&M tenure controversially ends in infamy with a 135-62 record.

More to come shortly.

Yep, complete dick move. A lot of the baseball board stalwarts however have been haughty about BAS and the "zoo posters" not understanding the finer points of baseball and the dynasty JS was building. Well, this is why.

A&M is in the spotlight for the biggest men's sports success in decades, and our coach leaves for Texas and bungles the chance we had to win a national championship. Spare me the but "Tenn #1 and they are good" stuff. I know. If you don't think the move to Texas affected JS's mindset Sunday and Monday, your head is in the sand.

This is A&M. It's just what happens. Better to enjoy a fulfilling life with family and hobbies you can challenge yourself with rather than putting all your hopes in mercenaries in "college" sports.

ROBERT ZANE....you are The Man! Many thought that your presser question was bold, extraneous, to "on point", out of line, etc.

As they say, "NAILED IT!" You should have followed with "I WANT THE TRUTH!!!" as Schlosspoon stormed out.

You shouldn't have to buy a drink EVER when amongst Aggies.

So much hatred for Scloss. We had how many wins in Omaha before he got here? Aggies are delusional about our success. I think the real question is why did he make the decision to leave and how did whatever that manages that school allow that to happen? How many meetings are going on right now between Chancellor, AD, heads of the school, etc to pin this on Schloss and conjure up some BS about how they offered him the moon and the stars and he turned them down.

This is my biggest issue with the whole thing here… Hire a brand new AD from Nebraska, then this whole thing goes sideways. What is the real story and does the AD need to be looked at?

To everyone implying he somehow threw the series ... I am as disappointed as y'all but that's ridiculous. He wanted to win for himself, if not for us. Obviously having a title would be a huge feather in his cap.

What's bad is he allowed Texas to break their job opening on the day our program was playing the biggest game in the history of our school

This is the worst part. What a grade A ****** bag thing to do. Easy to say when it's not your career, but I can not imagine going to a new employer that ****ed me over as bad as tu just did to his championship opportunity.

I will just say this, the people in the tcu athletic department absolutely love sarloos compared to Schloss and it's not based on how he left

I would like to know why he feels that's a better job than ours . . . or why would he want that job more than ours.

I'd like to know the answer to this so that we can fix whatever we can to retain people like him instead of losing him to anybody, especially sip.

Even if we were capable of that level of self awareness you really think we would swallow our pride? Hell no!

If you had told me 24 hours ago Tony frickin Vitello would arguably have a better reputation in Aggieland than Jim Schlossnagle, I would have looked at you like you were insane.

This move is utterly bewildering. The fact that this happened during the CWS and was leaked on the day of the national championship with prior knowledge by Schlossnagle means he is a straight up sociopath. I can't imagine any player wanting to play for him. I can't think of a more terrible move than this one.

Honestly, what the **** did we do to him?

This is just a continuation of failed leadership from the university. How many more times are the sips going to go behind this athletic department and **** them over without realizing it until it's too late? Yes, the new sip skipper can go to hell but what is this leadership doing?

if the rumors are true that he's getting close to $3 MM per year plus raises for all the assistants...

the A&M athletic department cannot handle that right now...without making more and deeper cuts

also...Schloss' flirting with t.u. will go on every offseason...and the AD may have said...we're not going to play that game with you

This isn't about the Schloss situation specifically but I'll just say this. The more money goes into college sports, and the higher the salaries ... the more you can expect money and money ALONE to dictate coaches' decisions about staying or leaving ... and now we'll see it with players too. Loyalty? Culture? Pff, that's for suckers (In their minds.) We reap what we sowed.

I wonder if the pitching coach is interested in a head coaching job….pitching is about 90% of the game and he is about as good as there is …. Need to lock him up with a good raise or head coaching job before he ends up in hippy holler….

Well I've read through the first couple of pages of comments. Some people are talking about coach Max, stepping up. That's not going to happen as he's on his way to Austin as well. And as for the players, possibly being irritated with the situation, five of them have already committed to going over to Austin. This isn't just a loss of a head coach this is going to decimate the program from a potential championship run to not even being in the field of 64 next season. As for my feelings about Schloss, when I saw the interview last night, where Zane asked the question and was met with the ludicrous response and eventual leaving the room / table of the post gain interview area and another individual coming by and grabbing the sheet of sheet notes or Cliff notes that slash had left behind, and quickly wadding them up. I knew something was amiss.

What's the point in having a contract, if you don't have to fulfill it and it can be bought out, in this case, by your biggest rival? I was already irritated enough with not being able to get tickets to Omaha. And I've looked into how the ticketing process is determined for the two championship teams. Texas A&M and Tennessee both received less than 100 tickets to a 24,000 plus seat arena! Even our own ticket office and athletic department associates had to go to the secondary market and buy tickets through Ticketmaster. Over the course of the three days leading up to the start on Saturday, the very ticket prices were at a minimum around $300, for one ticket to one game. Conversely the super regional tickets for the whole weekend, against oregon, were $23, that was for all three games if needed. The world series finals were $87 per game in Omaha. That is just not right. In my opinion I believe that the NCAA divided all of those tickets between Ticketmaster and vivid and so forth. It is also my belief that they probably sold those tickets for over the $87 face value, to put a little revenue in their own pockets times 24,000. Then they established what's called a reasonable inflated price to the public. Well I don't know about you, but reasonably inflated on Ticketmaster at 7,000 to $8,000 per ticket, is not reasonable. Let's go texags / Zane, let's look into this and find out why the tickets were not more evenly dispersed to the two universities participating in the final. Because if I buy tickets and stand in the middle of any stadium in the United states, and I asked more than face value, and in a lot of places asking face value is also considered scalping. If I can go to jail for scalping a ticket or multiple tickets, then why we made it legal for Ticketmaster and all of these other heinous ticketing groups to sell them at a gorged price, making them millions of dollars on all of these events. Now I don't care what we do with professional sports. But when it comes to the collegiate sports especially public universities, then this all needs to be above board and not some back door deal.

Nothing changed as the POS already knew. How considerate to have that on his mind while coaching A&M for a chance to win the National Championship. All that garbage he spewed followed by "Write THAT" was because he knew he would be shredded in the media.
