I was at my local store (Kleinwood) and I was able to get everything I needed except for purell. When checking out the moron ahead of me had about 25 bags of pasta, so I thought there must be plenty of that. But the checker politely smiled and said there was a limit. The lady wasn't too happy but the checker handled it well.

Great question! It's one of the main reasons I love this company. For houston at least, they cut our open hours from 8am to 8pm. This was huge because it gives us 12 hours with no customers to get the store stocked up. This also protects our customers so that they dont see us with pallets of toilet paper on the floor and creating chaos as people were pulling them off as we were bringing them out. That also gives us a chance to buy things we need as well. Dont worry...limits apply to us as well . We are stocked up on store supplies for sanitation. The most important thing is we have a 1 800 number that if you or any partner feels the least bit sick, they isolate themselves and call the number and are then advised if they are allowed to stay or go home and quarantine themselves for 48 hours at least.

We have an emergency preparedness team that works year round that really killed it during Harvey, west explosions etc.

They treated us well after Harvey with extra pay, no punishment for days off, extra days off and honestly just a ton of recognition and appreciation. I expect the same after this. Our corporate team is very hands on. I'm sure that most are out in the stores bagging and running curbside and stocking shelves. Also, as a fun side note, scott is just as hilarious and goofy and nice in person as he is on the commercials....some of the things that man has said has had me rolling and he has never turned down a customer that wanted a picture....so if yall see him in the store, feel free to bother him for one because he loves that!

Its strange....with Harvey the customers were amazing....it was Texans helping texans and publix helping heb and of course we returned the favor later....this is different. People are mad that we are limiting things and when we run out people are dubious as to if we enforced the limit. A little understanding goes a long way. Now there are also a lot of amazing wonderful customers out there too and those are the ones that make me happy to do what I do.

People are nuts right now. I went to Trader Joe's first (it was on the way, and I wanted to get a couple of things that I can only get there). People shopping there were warning me about H-E-B. I even heard a story about how a couple of customers almost came to blows.

I decided to stop at HEB anyway, Because there were still a few more things I wanted to get, and it was crowded, and the shelves were bare, and I could tell everyone was on edge.

I seriously had to bite my tongue when I watched one woman take the last 6 packages of cream cheese.

I got in and out pretty fast considering how crowded it was.

And you are right - about 300 houses in my 'hood flooded during Harvey. Everyone was so amazing - including this HEB. This situation is totally different and so disappointing and frustrating. It's literally every man for himself.
Unless she was making a massive casserole, wth does she need so much cream cheese? People are strange.

I would have walked up to her, pointed right at her, and laughed out loud. That ***** deserves to be shamed.

You people ever heard of cheese cake? Takes 2 pounds per cheesecake, that is 4 of those blocks. Not at all unheard of to make 2... Just saying I can see lots of reasons for that.

My only concern is that this makes every day black Friday as people rush to the TP/Sanitizer/Soap/etc. Hopefully this works and I can go back at the end of the week!

A few of you have mentioned people buying random stuff...
We literally had a customer return almost a full basket of stuff because he saw other people grabbing random stuff and so he started to do it too. He realized later that he didnt need or want any of it. Lol.

Still better than people running to grab it as they see it while we are rolling it out with a pallet jack.

You are probably right. If people are going to swarm regardless, probably best to get the stocker out of the way.

Just saw the work email from a friend who works there. HEB CS (emphasis stressed on individual store decision) is getting in one last truck for bakery and then no mas. Specialty departments such as deli, bakery, etc have been directed to use up all stock, deep clean, then close down. Employees of those departments have been advised to use vacation days/beg other departments for hours.

Just an FYI for those who use those products.

Yes that's true. Bakery deli and floral will go until they run out. My bakery manager thinks she will last 3 to 4 days.

Full disclosure: I'm in DFW so typically shop at Kroger. When would you recommend that we go to get "normal" groceries? Right at 6a when they open? Later?

I haven't stepped foot in a grocery store this week and will need to go tomorrow. I'm hoping the no booze before noon thing will deter some folks. TIA.

We noticed one of your competitors is all of a sudden listing on their website (specific to our local store) that they have immediate openings to fill.

Is there anything out there about grocery stores moving to curbside/delivery only for the time being?

Yep....get there maybe 30 minutes before they open. Dont stress or panic of course but that's when shelves should be at their healthiest and their neatest.

We haven't heard anything along those lines.... but we usually dont hear that kind of news until a few hours before it goes public. One of the good things about being a private company with smart leadership. They analyze decisions and then put them into action without needing a board vote.

The joke is that we are a real estate company that sells groceries. Heb owns so much land that hasn't been built on that it's insane. They have owned land in Dallas for awhile now. The biggest issue is that houston is still growing and we are still building so many stores here that it would be too hard to build a bench to open in dallas the heb way. Once Houston is more saturated and we can build a bench deep enough then dallas hebs will likely start to explode. That's not official though....just word of mouth type.

Own any land in East Texas (Tyler area)? Brookeshire's sucks

All of this is a great example of humans primitive instincts overriding logic. The same people dump their stock or move to cash as the market declines 30% instead of using logic that the market will come back, whether it's this year or not it will come back it always has and this isn't even close to being a real financial problem like 2008 was.

I was annoyed that she bought the last six packs. When the shelves are rapidly going bare, there is no reason to take the last six of anything. Leave some for other people!

I would imagine that it is because the product is handled by employees who could become sick. The prepackaged stuff has less potential risk. But what do I know.

That, and at least for the bakery, all that bread is put out in open bins, and anyone who walks by can touch it or cough/sneeze on it.
