While I am at it, let me say that I have shopped at HEB for over 30 years.

I have had numerous students and former students who have worked there while in high school and in college, and they all greatly benefited from that employment.

Every employee I have ever dealt with has been helpful, upbeat, and friendly, and if they didn't know the answer to my question, they found someone who did.

I also admire the company for employing so many special needs people.

HEB does many things right.

Old Army I agree. That is why I miss them so much in the metroplex and drive to drive to Burleson ever couple of months to spend a huge amount for just one person. But making that dirve undertain about supply is another isue. It is time for an HEB trip for me, last one was before Christmas. I am out of almost everything I got then. But I won't be using the gas to make theat trip until the supply chain and the demand thing level out. If I am going to risk going into a store it needs to at least be somewhere close. Teacher payday for me is the last day of the month, so I usually buy the big run of groceries about the 2nd or 3rd. Hopefully by then stores will have things, including HEB. If so Burleson here I come.

Local HEB has started limiting how many can go in, there is quite a line outside. As I understand it, the registers are limiting how many items you can buy, so the rest of us don't have to. For example, some turd tries to buy four dozen eggs, the register will only allow you to buy two.

The toilet paper thing is still hysterical to me. Paper towels too. At least wipes and gloves sort of makes sense

I don't disagree that people shouldn't hoard, but digestive issues are now one of the most common symptoms of the virus.

2 weeks ago, even a week ago people were saying people buying extra toilet paper were stupid.

Now there's a shortage of toilet paper.

Again, I'm not in favor of hoarding and people buying 10x more than they could possibly need, but honestly right now those people who bought more than they usually do seem a lot smarter than those who were laughing about how it wouldn't be an issue.

Those limits are in place at other chains, but why my kids and several of my teacher friends who have offered to shop for me can't do it.

They have to provide for their own family. My daughter is high risk. I don't wnat her making extra store trips. it would be nice if there was some way to identify legitimate shopping for shut ins people so that their limit could double.

That was the positive about ration cards in WWII I guess.

In your case, you might well benefit from the curbside pickup since you have to order so long ahead of time. It's not a guarantee that you will get everything you want, but you might go online and try it for your closest store. Let us know how it goes.

There's a shortage because people are buying more than they need not because they suddenly need more or because there's less supply. It's panic.

Just got back

No non-perishable items on our list were able to be secured, Including hand wash dish soap. One exception was the last addition to the list, an 8 pack of Dial soap (fresh breeze).

DMs still open -

Also, if you need napkins, check the party aisle.

Negative is approx. 1.50 for 1 pack of 8 napkins in a bright, instead of a neutral, color.

People are being told to avoid contact with other people and assume everyone is infected.

It was silly for people to think buying quantities wouldn't increase. If you usually buy a pack of toilet paper for 2 weeks and you're being told you might be told to stay home for 4+ weeks (and have your kids home with you) then of course you're going to buy multiple packs.

For most this was not panic buying, it was being prepared.

Even if people weren't hoarding the supply wouldn't keep up with current demand levels. The demand has gone off the charts with people not being able to eat out.

People are not eating out and kids are not eating at school. Or using TP at school.

We shop at HEB as a rule, have for years and enjoy the well run, quality business they have. I do have two problems with the way they are handling this situation.
1. The lines. I understand that they may not be able to throw open the flood gates but what I am seeing at our local store is a line 1/2 to 3/4 of the way around the building. And the parking lot is 1/3 to 1/4 full! The parking lot is usually 3/4 full to full. This store is a plus so was designed to handle very large crowds. They just arent letting people in.
2. I tried curbside. I had to wait almost a week to get my groceries and only got about 50% of what I ordered. That short ship caused me to go out and hunt at various places for food (not counting TP, Paper towels, etc.)
I spent the last 30 years in supply chain management. You cant put people off for a week, all the while selling goods to the people that did not wait or practice good health management.
Rant over.

HEB senior support. A partnership with Favor Delivery, "is designed to offer a safer solution for people ages 60 and over." One can either call the Senior Support phone lines with volunteers from both companies" or "Seniors can place their orders on Favors website or download the Favors app and search for H-E-B."

Has anyone even looked at this site. Unfortunately, I am a senior and I find this arrogant and condescending. I can order ground beef, and pay $6 per pound. Ground beef in the store is half of that and I can choose, lean, ground beef, ground chuck, etc...when available......but I get to choose. I can buy chicken per the app.,, 2lb for $8.00 but can't choose breasts, thighs, legs, whole chicken, etc. They choose. Paper towels, $8.00 but no choice of brand, numbers of rolls, etc. I guess H-E-B chooses. Toothpaste, $3.00 but no choice about size and/or brand....and on and on......Get the point.

Perhaps calling personally would be better, I'm not sure but the app/website leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps a special limited curbside for seniors where seniors can choose for themselves, instead of HEB choosing for them might work better. Perhaps a special time slot allowed at the store for seniors or perhaps some combination of both might be better.

Currently, curbside in my community and home delivery is not available until AFTER April 5 (2 weeks). Those seniors that want to stay at home and be safe (and they are at highest risk) must still go to the store to have choices. I'm not sure how much this program helps seniors.

My son is a patrol officer with the Houston Police Department that works the night shift. They are experiencing trouble finding decent food on the 11 pm to 7 am shift. They are used to going to HEB and getting a ready to go meal and a drink, but with the hours changed, they can't. Can HEB think of any work arounds for this?

Fast food places are still open, bodegas/convenience stores/gas stations are still open.
This isn't an issue HEB needs to solve.

I went to my local HEB at lunch. It was pretty well stocked outside of paper towels and toilet paper and some baking items (my wife needed sugar). I didn't need either, but noticed that aisle completely bare.

I needed milk as well as the smallest container of buttermilk. There is a 2 item limit on milk. The store was out of gallons of 2% so I got 2 1/2 gallons and an 8 oz buttermilk. There was an HEB employee watching and told me there was a limit of 2. I mistakenly thought the 8 oz buttermilk would not count, but I put back a 1/2 gallon and went on my way.

My suggestion is this: limit milk to 1.5 gallons instead of 2 items. I also noticed the prepackaged meats had limits of 2. This should be limited to weight instead of items.

Makes logical sense, but most people are stupid when it comes to measurements and it would be difficult to enforce.

I buy milk in the half gallon cartons because my kids are still working up the strength for a full gallon jug. We go through about a half gallon/day, and on normal trips to the store I buy three half gallon jugs. This morning with the limit two I bought two one gallon jugs.

They can lift a gallon jug. Holding it steady to pour into a bowl of cereal without it going everywhere is a different matter.

No I get that. I still pour milk for my 6 year old every time. She can handle it okay when it's 1/4 full or so, but with a freezer on the bottom fridge, it's hard for her to reach anyways.

If you run out go to an Ace Hardware. They never had a run on their paper towels at $5 per small roll for bounty and $2 for the off brand in my town. I probably should just buy washable napkins.

Convenience stores might have paper towels and TP... if you open the door, touch it only with a napkin / wet wipe / disinfectant wipe cover
