This is correct.

I think Earley isn't the answer unless we want to ride him until he develops as a coach who can do things right. My objection is we are risking too much to wait and see if he can greatly improve and grow as a coach.

He got greedy, thought he could squeeze this last inning out of him

In his defense we have no one better. None.

But yeah, he was toast.

Reminds me of a Nolan Ryan story. I think it was Bobby V. that came to the mound, late in a game, to pull Ryan. Ryan asked what are you doing out here? Bobby V. said, you look tired. Nolan said I am, but I'm still better than anything you're bringing out of the pen. Bobby just walked back to the dugout.

Hard to pull Freshcorn after the short 6th, but as a pitcher who hadn't started all year you have to be more cautious with 2 men on.

No reason not to throw a few different arms and looks at USC at that point.
