Forecast has improved for Hoover. Only a 20% chance of rain during the afternoon today. Increases to 50% this evening, so the last two games might have issues.

EDIT - Today looks to be the best day (weather-wise) left in the tournament. Going to get difficult starting tomorrow and continuing through Memorial Day (i.e. past the end of the tournament).

The 19" width is 100% a-ok. If you want to shrink the top/bottom a little, whatever, but I think it's fine as is. The issue is the top of the actual strike zone has rarely been called in MLB or college so there's a perception problem that a high strike isn't a strike. The NCAA language is from the hollow below the knees to the mid-point between the top of the pants and the shoulder. That's way up there. Well above what has traditionally been called.

The answer is that the 2D plane at mid-plate produced a similar rate of strikes and balls during their validation with players while the other more complex variants upped the strike count more than they wanted.

I think the way it works is the batter knows where it is being checked so they only have to keep that one plane in mind. I'll try to find the article again if I have time.

I'd love to see it, thanks. With the breaking stuff these guys have, a ball 0.1" low mid-plate is a strike 95% of the time at the front of the plate.

I guess I didn't understand "upped the strike counts more than they want." A strike is a strike (and a ball a ball) no matter what they "want."
