Breaking balls that the ump determines were in the strike zone 3D volume as defined in the rules can be overturned because at the 2D plane at the midpoint of the plate they are not judged as strikes. That is exactly the point Sean was making.

I sure hope Kevin O'Sullivan is OK with moving up the time of their game after just playing in the morning yesterday. We know he gets really sensitive about changing the times of tournament games.

If we don't get to play much or at all this weekend, I won't be upset. We are a seriously banged up team and a week of rest before NCAA tournament is what we need most. If I were coach, I wouldn't play Hacopian, Partida, and Kellner at all this weekend. I don't know what exactly is up with Sims, but if he'd be better off resting, I wouldn't play him either.

the problem with this is that hitting is such a timing thing, and you can't get timing on a machine. There's a reason a lot of our starters play mid-weeks when it would clearly be better to get them some time off...

But overall I agree with you. I'm a noted post-season conference tourney hater, but these games don't mean ***** They're not worth any risk to what you really need to accomplish next weekend.

I say we start with Moss tomorrow. He was effective vs. Auburn last time. Pitch 70 pitches from Moss and 40 from Lyons and see where we are. Hopefully we make it through 7 with little damage received and finish with Corn.

The sheer number of successful challenges that overrule an umpire's call is quite amazing. Catchers are doing a good job taking care of their pitchers. But that's really no surprise - they know when a pitch is good/bad and they also know when they've done a good job with framing a pitch. Batters are also doing a resonable job as well.

It's much more high tech now. They're measuring individual players to adjust the strike zone to the individual player and not a standardized box. ABS looking more and more like a possibility.
